    08/10/2017 Duration: 01h18min

Have you ever looked in the mirror and not liked who was looking back at you? Have you seen yourself and been desperate to make a change? Well what happens when you make the change you wanted but cannot recognise the person looking back at you? This week Tim opens up about his long and ongoing battle with negative body image. He recounts his first ever memory of associating negative thoughts with his body and how he struggled with being an overweight person. This is then followed up with a discussion about how these negative and often exhausting thoughts never went away. How things like people making comments about his weight can have a negative impact on him and how hard it can be accept that you are no longer overweight. We discuss how things like wearing tight clothes can make you self conscious, having people touch you in certain parts of your body can make you uncomfortable and how people who make passing comments about your body can have huge repercussions. We try and give some tips on how we have both

  • Think Fit Episode 25: How To Make Sure You Don't Put The Weight Back On!

    01/10/2017 Duration: 01h03min

Have you ever gotten super motivated to lose weight, started training and eating better and managed to hit your weight loss target? If so that is an amazing achievement you should be really proud of! The next question though, is did you put the weight back on? Lots of people who manage to lose significant amounts of weight ultimately end up weighing more than they did before they lost weight at all! We get it, losing weight is only the tip of the iceberg so this week we want to pass on as much information as we can to prevent it from happening. We provide a whole heap of tips (we should have aimed for 25 for our 25th episode) that will help stop you from returning to old habits and seeing the weight go back on. Things including changing the way you eat and train, relying on support and being honest with yourself are all some of the ways to prevent your weight going back up. These aren't theories we have read in a book or seen on Men's Health. These are the things we have both done to keep off our weight for m

  • Think Fit Episode 24: How To Make Time For Fitness - Tips & Tricks To Optimise Your Time

    24/09/2017 Duration: 01h15min

Do you find you are always running out of time? Do you have the best intentions of heading to the gym or going for a run but get caught doing other things? We think it's pretty normal for people to fall into this cycle. It is something that we both did. One of the ways we were both able to make positive change and successfully lose weight was to create time in our day to get active and make smart food choices. This week we share our experiences with making time for healthy habits that we hope can help you too! We talk through the process from trying to identify where your time goes, strategies to use 'dead time' more effectively and how to find time in your busy day to fit in your healthy activities. We discuss strategies around food to make healthy eating as effortless as possible and go off on a few tangents along the way. Literally these are the ways that we both managed to make change in our lives and it is also how we are both able to fit in the time for the training demands of racing now. We discuss som

  • Think Fit Episode 23: Fighting An Invisible Enemy - Why Robo Put on Weight!

    17/09/2017 Duration: 01h10min

Are you ok? This is a question that many people are afraid to ask and it is something that we have become more and more aware of the importance of asking over the last few weeks. With R U Ok Day last week we thought it was a good opportunity to have a conversation about Robo's battle with depression. Believe it or not, this is not something that we had discussed before. Robo goes into the factors he thinks led to his depression, what it was like being depressed, when he realised that something was wrong, how he dealt with it and the important role that support played. Robo also highlighted that endurance sport and getting active played a big role in his recovery. We discussed how going through a battle with depression has changed him and made him stronger today. We really want to try and have conversations that people are not used to hearing to try and 'normalise' things that so many people suffer from and this seemed like a great opportunity to do so. Mike was incredibly open and honest and provides an inter

  • Think Fit Episode 22: There is Nothing Simple About Eating Disorders with Dr. Charlotte Durand

    10/09/2017 Duration: 01h28min

When most people think about weight change it is usually about people who manage to lose weight and live a more active, healthy life. But there is another side that is not so popular to talk about. This week we are joined by Dr. Charlotte Durand. Charlotte suffered from a serious eating disorder and shares with us her experiences with it and how she is recovering now, years later. Charlotte explains that it isn't as simple as putting a label on something, that there is more to it than simply receiving a diagnosis and getting better. There is so much more complexity and complication around eating disorders. Charlotte highlights the fine line that many endurance athletes walk with their diet and how many people may not realise that they do in fact suffer from some form of disordered eating. We discuss the warning signs that a person should look out for, some things you can do if you think yourself or a person you know is suffering from an unhealthy relationship with food. We are really excited to present this e

  • Think Fit Episode 21: Using Your Mind to Successfully Make Positive Change with Bevan James Eyles

    03/09/2017 Duration: 01h24min

Wow! Honestly! This is a good episode! We were extremely lucky to be joined by Bevan James Eyles this week for one of the most engaging, entertaining and informative discussions we have ever been a part of (we weren't the funny, informative or engaging part.) We discussed the importance of identifying strategies to set yourself up for success, how to make sure you learn from your mistakes and not let them define you. We have an in-depth discussion about the power of optimism and how it can lead to a healthier life as well as so much more. Honestly! This is not an attempt to get you to listen to the episode! It genuinely was just a great episode to record. Years ago Bevan started to go overboard with both drugs and alcohol until he woke up one day and didn't like who he was. He turned his life around and became not only an incredible athlete but is Internationally recognised as one of the best minds in fitness and has helped countless people to overcome their own barriers and make successful change in all aspe

    27/08/2017 Duration: 01h17min

Ever felt like you were doing everything you could but weren't getting anywhere? Or do you find yourself worried about what other people are doing? These are feelings that most people experience (whether they admit it or not!) The good news is that these feelings or mental barriers can be dealt with and stopped. This week we discuss some of the most common mental barriers we have faced through our weight loss, racing and training (and life in general) and we explain the methods we use to overcome them. Things like positive re-enforcement, visualisation and the good old school of hard knocks are all ways we have learned how to control those little voices in our heads which sometimes speak up and like to tell us we are not good enough. We discuss a great article which gives some fantastic tips about how to prepare yourself if you want to start a successful weight loss journey. We also have a chat about the race in Bintan last weekend (it is a seamless segue into the topic this week.) We also have more details a

  • Think Fit Episode 19: Even World Champions Worry About Their Weight With Chris 'Macca' McCormack

    20/08/2017 Duration: 01h06min

It is easy to see professional athletes as superhuman, invincible people who do not struggle with the same issues that us mere mortals face. This week we are joined by 4 time World Champion Chris 'Macca' McCormack and we discuss the role that weight had throughout his career. Macca is incredibly honest about how his weight has changed after retiring and the role it played when he raced. Macca gives advice for everyone on how to manage your weight around performance. We tried to go beyond the traditional Macca stories and instead focus on the obsessions and challenges that plague not only Chris, but play on everyones mind. Macca talks about being told he was too big and too thick and it wasn't until he worked out how to tune his weight to suit his performance that he was able to prove others wrong. Obviously it worked for him and he shares his information so that all of you are able to learn from it! We also announce how you can win a free entry into the Port of Tauranga Half in January next year. Seriously, t

  • Think Fit Episode 16: Jump Off The Scales - Easy Ways To Know If You Are Losing Weight

    30/07/2017 Duration: 01h14min

The scales are one of the easiest ways to know if you are losing weight. You step on, and the number is either higher or lower than last time. Unfortunately though, weight loss is not that simple. What sort of training you are doing can have a big impact on the number on the scale, regardless if your health is increasing and your body fat is decreasing. This week we talk about alternative ways to monitor your progress that are less likely to cause you anxiety, disappointment and distress. These alternative measures can objectively tell you if your body is changing. It will not tell you what the number on the scales is doing. We answer a number of listener questions including how to lose weight while training for performance and give our thoughts on how to run well off the bike. We discuss some alternatives to sugary soft drinks. Chloe provides us with some good healthy snack ideas as well as information about why men and women may struggle with weight loss in different ways. • Think Fit Episode 13: The Worst Weight Loss Excuses & Why We Stopped Using Them

    09/07/2017 Duration: 01h12min

I'm too tired, it's too hard, I don't have time. Do these sound familiar? Most people will be guilty of using these sort of excuses at some point and we are no different. This week we discuss some of the biggest and worst excuses we have heard or used (and continue to) instead of training or eating well. We talk about what happened or how we realised that we were using excuses and how we learned to stop. Using different language like training isn't a priority instead of saying I'm too busy or coming up with ways to make your exercise fun instead of boring are some ways we stopped making excuses and started making change. We discuss the article '10 Ways to Lose Weight Without Even Trying' (You can probably tell it isn't very good) and answer some questions we received from our listeners.  Thank you to everyone who has posted a review! 02/07/2017 Duration: 01h10min

Hindsight is a wonderful thing! This we week we discuss some of the stupidest things we tried in an attempt to lose weight. In hindsight it is no wonder that they did not work because... well... they are stupid. Crazy detox's, stupid and expensive infomercial gym equipment. It highlights just how desperate we were both were to make change and how stupid we felt once we realised how simple it can actually be. This week we gave Men's Health a break and turned our attention to Women's Health. We also answer a question if we could tell the bigger versions of ourself one thing what would it be. If you get the chance please review the podcast on whatever channel you use. • Think Fit Episode 11: Self-Sabotaging Your Fitness and Weight Loss Goals

    25/06/2017 Duration: 01h17min

Sometimes it feels like no matter what you do you aren’t getting anywhere. Your weight stays the same, you aren’t getting any faster and you can’t lift any heavier. The reason? It could be any number of things but if you took a serious look at what you are doing you may notice one thing getting in your way… Yourself. This week we had a chat about some of the worst ways in which we have self-sabotaged ourselves. Eating too much to ‘carbo-load’, training when we were too tired or listening to the voices in our heads saying it was too hard and we weren’t good enough. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and some of the things we have done to ourselves are absolutely ridiculous. So have a listen this week and maybe you wont make the same mistakes that we did! 18/06/2017 Duration: 01h12min

This week we call bullshit on some of the biggest myths in fitness and give you the truth in the simplest terms possible. We look at things like if doing sit ups will get you  a six pack (it won't) or if you can lose weight off specific spots on your body (you can't).
