Today is national Green Shirt Day. In honour of the Logan Boulet Effect, in support of organ donation awareness across Canada. Logan was an 18 year old defenceman on the Humboldt Broncos hockey team which 6 years ago yesterday was decimated in the horrendous crash with an 18 wheel semi truck. Of the 29 passengers 16 lost their lives and the other 13 will live with the scars of that day for the remainder of their lives.  Six years ago today Logan Boulet died. He had signed his organ donor card and because of Logan's generosity six people lived on with Logan's organs. As the public inquiry into foreign (China) interference in Canada continues, with among others PM Justin Trudeau scheduled to testify at the hearing he did not want and his appointed special rapporteur and former Governor General David Johnston said last year would not take place, we hear from the president of the World Uygher Congress Dolkun Isa, a short-listed candidate for the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize and author of The China Freedom Trap: My Life on the Run.  Canada's parliament voted unanimously in support of a motion declaring the Beijing government to be engaging in Genocide against its Uygher population, although the entire Liberal federal cabinet left the room before the vote took place. While the world's current focus is on the Israel/Hamas war, Ukraine's war with Russia has entered its third year and news from Ukraine is that the country's military is running seriously low on war fighting equipment and munitions as the U.S. primarily is holding up a major arms shipment due to Republican/Democrat political infighting. NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg has floated a plan for a 100-billion Euro, 5-year weapons support plan for Ukraine prior to the U.S. national election in November. NATO is calling on all its members to live up to their 2% of GDP military spending commitment that Canada has already said we will not reach.  While Ukrainian drones are now striking deep inside Russia, on the battlefields its military is facing operating with war equipment and mismatched ammunition. Meanwhile, French president Macron has not ruled out sending French ground troops into Ukraine to engage Russia there. We speak with Toronto Police Association president Jon Reid about the letter sent by six members of Toronto City Council, two on the police board, challenging police action at pro-Palestinian protests and demonstrations, particularly on March 30 when several people were arrested after clashing with police. Tomorrow (April 1) in addition to Canadians being saddled with the newest installment of the carbon tax, members of parliament will receive automatic salary increases. The basic MP salary will reach $203,100, with substantially more going to cabinet ministers (additional $96K), opposition party leaders, committee chairs, parliamentary secretaries, etc. Prime Minister Trudeau's salary will increase to $406,200. According to national polling by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation 80% of Canadians of voting age oppose the parliamentary pay hike.
