New York voted Thursday to ban anyone age 21 from buying or possessing a semi-automatic rifle, a major change to state firearm laws pushed through less than three weeks after an 18-year old used one of the guns to kill 10 people at a supermarket in Buffalo. Other new legislation will restrict civilian purchases of bullet-restrict armor, which was worn by the killer in Buffalo, and require new guns to be equipped with microstamping technology that can help law enforcement investigators trace bullets to particular firearms. New York already reequires people to be 21 to possess a handgun. Younger people would still be allowed to have other types of rifles and shotguns under the new law, but would be unable to buy the type of fast-firing rifles used by the 18 year old gunmen in the mass shootings in Buffalo and at a Texas elementary school.

 The person who shot his grandmother in her face drove to Robb Elementary school in Texas, entered the school through an open door and locked himself inside a fourth-grade classroom, killing 19 students and two teachers before law enforcement killed him. One student was told from an officer to yell if you need help. One young lady said help and the shooter heard her and came in the room and shot her. It has been said that the shooter was in the school for over an hour. It's been said that an officer was unable to stop him from entering the building. He called for back up and and two more policemen were also unable to stop him and they called for help. The policemen saw the shooter wearing body armour and carrying a rifle. During Governor Abbott's press conference, Beto O'Rourke interrupted his press conference and told him that everthing that happened was on him!

Late last year, I saw a post that horrified me. My good friend, Heather Hart, had come down with COVID. She would be in the hospital for 31 days and would discover who the true Healer was as she battled the sickness. The benefits of home care is, it promotes healing and reduces the risk of infections: the patient is protected from the infections they are exposed to in hospitals. Home care is more affordable than in-hospital care. Keeping someone in hospital surroundings for long can have a negative impact on their mental health.  Providing professional care at home helps personalize and customize the experience for the patient. When a patient is suffering from various problems, medication tends to go up, with many doctors giving different medicines for different problems.  Assisting in activities can help the patients feel less lonely and abandoned.

Tennessee just introduced a bill that would establish a new type of marriage - one that would not have any minimum age requirements. HB 0233 was introduced by Tom Leatherwood a Republican, in February, and has slowly made its way through the legislature since then. The bill would enshrine the concept of common law marriage into law, which is a legally recognized marriage that is automatically granted to couples that meet certain cohabitation requirements.  In this case, the bill seeks to define common law marriage as a union between one man and one woman.  If a county clerk decided in favor of granting a minor a marriage license, that clerk would have the state of Tennessee on their side if someone were to bring a suit against them.
