Podtoid: Destructoid's Video Game Podcast

Informações:

Synopsis

Podtoid is Destructoid's long-running video game podcast. It has gone through several iterations with a plethora of cast members, but it has always been a place for raw video game discussion with some of your favorite Destructoid editors. Current cast includes Zack Furniss, Steven Hansen, Brett Makedonski, and Darren Nakamura.

Episodes

  • 109: Dried grapes

    04/08/2009 Duration: 01h52min

I fear one day will come when Podtoid stops becoming about actual gaming news and almost solely becomes a weekly delivery of sex and sports jokes. Then I realize that happened about twenty episodes ago, and I stop worrying. This week's Podtoid can be listened to here, as usual, or you can subscribe to us on iTunes.Highlights include: - Be prepared for Robert Patrick's Double Dragon next week- The Red Star is good- I just realized we legitimately do not mention Half-Life or Metal Gear Solid a single time throughout this entire episode- I think we should get an award or somethingOur favorite question this week came from Stevil, who gave us all opportunities to talk about games nobody else has ever heard of. Email us at podtoid[at]destructoid.com and we'll send you a swag bag.

  • Podtoid 108: Aaron is too hot

    28/07/2009 Duration: 01h19min

I know I promised Jim would be the only regular cast member missing from Podtoid 109, but Linde leaves around the halfway point for, shall we say, thermal reasons. Either way, the episode is still alright. Conrad Zimmerman came on to replace Jim, and Topher actually says more than three sentences once Linde is out of the picture. You can listen to it here, as usual, or subscribe to us on iTunes. Highlights include:  - Samit's games of the week - Topher is tired of your BlazBlue graphical bias - Sam Raimi is directing a Warcraft movie, ambivalence ensues - Arkham Asylum review shenanigans - A ton of listener questions Our favorite question came from able_to_think, who asked about trading challenge for narrative. Send us an email at podtoid@destructoid.com and we'll send you a Dtoid swag bag.

  • Podtoid 107: Near death experiences

    21/07/2009 Duration: 01h36min

This week's Podtoid is about as enjoyably typical an episode we've ever done: it's got a good mixture of weird, unstructured BS'ing and Serious News Discussion. And the first twenty minutes consists almost solely of Samit-bashing. You can listen to it here, as usual, or subscribe to us on iTunes.Highlights include:- As promised, twenty minutes of Samit-bashing- Jim is prepared- Penn and Teller's Bullsh*t!- New revenue models- Email me at reverendanthony[at]gmail[dot]com if you're pretty decent at modding and find the concept of working on a nonlinear zombie survival game appealing This week's question prize goes to Xhumation, for asking a question so ludicrously out of Podtoid's scope that I consider it amazing Aaron Linde managed to come up with a response. Email us at podtoid[at]destructoid.com and we'll send you some stuff.

  • Podtoid 106: Special Limited Collector's Edition

    14/07/2009 Duration: 01h31min

Since the Earth saw fit to swallow up Anthony's internet connection last night, the rest of the cast carried on with the handsome Aaron Linde acting as host. That also meant I had to edit, which is why I'm writing this post instead of Anthony. Sorry to move your cheese. It still turned out to be a good show, where we talked about stuff like: I'm not the only one who loved Wind WakerSame goes for cel shading Modern Warfare: Big F*ckin' thing editionTomb Raider needs more zombiesThe return of Uncle Reg20 bucks in a box for $10 As always, subscribe to the show on iTunes to get it early, or check it out right here. Anthony will be back next week, when we'll probably talk about the Penn & Teller thing that skipped this week in his absence.

  • Podtoid 105: Man Island

    07/07/2009 Duration: 02h00s

It continues. I'm as surprised as anyone that we actually stuck to our guns and recorded another videogame movie commentary exactly when we said we would. Either way, it's here. It's not as good as the Street Fighter movie commentary, of course, but it's not bad. Get it here. No highlights this time, as the entire thing is basically just one big running stream of weird riffs and offensive jokes. I will say that Guncannon's "you've lost your balls" riff is as close as we can get to announcing a best listener question. Email podtoid@destructoid.com and we'll talk.

  • Podtoid 104: Billy Mays here

    30/06/2009 Duration: 01h23min

If that header image offends you, this week's episode of Podtoid isn't going to be much more enjoyable for you. This week, the entire cast minus Samit talked about writing in videogames, Twitter etiquette, and the unusual allure of Suda 51. We also made fun of dead people. You can listen to it here, as usual, or subscribe to us on iTunes. Highlights include: - Jim-as-Samit - I've actually sort of forgotten what we talked about apart from the basic news stories - Something about integrating writers into the production process earlier - Then a lot of jokes about Billy Mays - BILLY MAYS HERE This week's most interesting question came from Kpax, if only because it allowed us to do something we never, ever, ever do: talk about Half-Life 2.

  • Podtoid 103: Chet

    23/06/2009 Duration: 01h22min

This was sort of a listener-question-only episode because of the slow news week, except Samit found some news to talk about, so maybe it isn't a listener-question-only episode. Either way, you can listen to it here, as usual, or subscribe to us on iTunes.Highlights include:- Brad loves his nickname- Bloodsport- The importance of E3- The Pro-Samit Alliance will fall The most interesting question came from Necro-Bestial Anal Butt Sex, which is a name that's as fun to type as it is to mispronounce. Send an email to podtoid@destructoid.com and we'll get in touch with you about your prize.

  • Podtoid 102: More ducks, less luck

    16/06/2009 Duration: 01h21min

This week, Podtoid was initially supposed to talk about stuff like Mirror's Edge 2 and random news stories, but we got sidetracked discussing Psychonauts and the original Half-Life. Whether this makes the show better or worse is up to you.You can listen here, as usual, or subscribe to us on iTunes. Highlights include:- Even when Samit says nothing of sports, he is crucified- Evidently, Prototype is way better than inFAMOUS - Why didn't you save us, Milla - The cast discusses Half-Life for a while -- if you're still playing the Podtoid drinking game, you'll be dead before we reach the mid-show break- Other worlds than these- Hot New GrafiX, with a capital XThis week's most interesting question came from wanderingpixel. Send an email to podtoid@destructoid.com, Mr. Pixel, and we'll send some swag your way.

  • Podtoid 101: E3, and Nicholson's Pecs

    09/06/2009 Duration: 01h38min

Podtoid returns after a two-week hiatus, and what do we spend the majority of the episode talking about? Brad Nicholson's guns, obviously. And some slightly tangential stuff regarding the 2009 E3 Business & Media Summit. But mostly the guns. You can listen here, as usual, or subscribe to us on iTunes. Highlights include: - I've got a video Podtoid on my hard drive, and you will never (want to) see it - Samit and Jim: BFF - Outsourcing, motion control, and sudden sequels - The rebirth of stealth - PAX: A John Hughes film This week's most interesting question came from reamsower, primarily because we touched on 90% of the listener questions in our regular discussion. Send an email to podtoid@destructoid.com with your mailing address and we'll send you stuff.

  • Podtoid 100: Podtoid 100

    19/05/2009 Duration: 01h45min

Yay. You can listen to it here, or subscribe to us on iTunes.- Do you people really want a Sportstoid podcast? Really? - Adam Dork's Podtoid soundboard- We retrospect the hell out of everything- Why the hell is Topher on this podcast - Samit is the new Tiff This week's swag bag goes to Okstuke, because I couldn't pronounce his name and tried to excuse it with a racist comment. Thanks for listening, guys. Also, attached is a picture of Brad Nicholson's guns.

  • Podtoid 99: To the Moon, Samit

    05/05/2009 Duration: 01h46min

Hi everyone. Ashley Davis here, filling in for Anthony Burch. Not on the podcast itself, just on the posting of Podtoid 99 to the Internet. He left me with only one specific instruction: "Just use some picture of Samit for the Podtoid header." So I used this lovely piece from Dexter345 because it makes me laugh.I don't really know what this episode entails otherwise, so no actual show notes, unfortunately. Anthony just wanted me to get this thing up for you guys, so that's what I'm doing. Hope you guys enjoy whatever this is!

  • Podtoid 97: Monday-to-Friday Plane

    21/04/2009 Duration: 02h13min

The entire regular cast is back for Podtoid 97, and we discussed everything...and nothing at all. That's how it is when you base an entire episode off listener questions, and then refuse to edit out the twenty to thirty minutes of off-topic, behind-the-scenes banter. You can listen to the episode here, as always, or subscribe to us on iTunes (which is even better, really). Topics of discussion included:- Welcome to Browntown- Starscream - Listen to the Parakeet - Six Days to Fallujah- Play Runner, and don't forgive its flaws This week's best question came from Phallus Knife Fight, who has been blessing us with insanely hilarious and/or horrifying Podtoid fan art for months now. Shoot your mailing address to podtoid@destructoid.com and we'll send you a swag bag.

  • Podtoid 96: Whatevs

    14/04/2009 Duration: 01h34min

There was no way Podtoid 96 would be able to adequately follow the JCVD-tacular heights Podtoid 95 achieved last week. That will surprise no one. Still, despite the absence of Raul Julia, we managed to make do. This week, Jonathan Ross joined Aaron Linde, Jim Sterling and myself to talk about nonlinear game narratives. And penises. As always, you can listen to the new episode here or, better yet, get us on iTunes. Whatever floats your boat, really. Discussion topics included: - Pots and kettles - Linde the sinner - Our opinions on BioShock 2 are nothing, if not whatevs - Can a player-driven story be legitimately affecting on the same level as scripted stories? - Things about Nicole Wiebe Podtoid 96's best -- or at least, most insane -- question came from 4knuckleshuffle. Send your mailing address to reverendanthony [a t] gmail [do t]com and we'll send you a swag bag.

  • Podtoid 95: Bisontoid

    07/04/2009 Duration: 01h55min

Oh yes. It's here. After two false starts and a lost bonus episode, Podtoid has finally recorded its official commentary to the 1994 Street Fighter movie starring Raul Julia, Jean Claude Van Damme, and Raul Julia.I'd give highlights, but the entire Street Fighter film is basically one big highlight. Our commentary is but a flickering candle to the blazing sun of genius that is the Street Fighter movie.icarus wins the question contest for this week -- though considering much of the film includes Raul Julia walking around in a bright red cape acting like a comic book version of Stalin, I'd say we all win.

  • Podtoid 93: The Aaron Linde Show

    31/03/2009 Duration: 01h37min

Phallus Knife Fight's art is the gift that keeps on giving. This week, The Podtoid Crew Minus Jim Sterling recorded a podcast that, sadly, does not also double as a fan commentary for the 1994 Street Fighter movie. It is, however, available here, and does, however, include discussions of the following things: - Jim Sterling's accent- The cast's boundless optimism for OnLive- Heather Chaplin  - Linde's feelings toward cover-based shooters- "Huge slam on anteaters out of nowhere!"- Edugames- MadWorld spoilers during the epilogue This week's best question came from Dexter345. Send me an email, Dexter, and we'll send you a swag bag.[The song is "Playing with the Boys" from the Top Gun soundtrack.]

  • Podtoid 92: Samit really, really loves sports

    24/03/2009 Duration: 01h51min

Podtoid 92 is here, and as per usual we're missing some of the cast. As you already know, Reverend Anthony is at GDC, and Aaron Linde decided this would be a fine time to deliberately break his computer, which he totally did. That leaves just Topher and Samit holding the fort with yours truly. Here's what you can look forward to this week: Doom and Gloom -- hardcore gaming was never popularShould JRPGs be portable from now on?The sweetest rides in videogamesMario Kart 64 was the sexCel-shading always looks goodFair enough, I can dig itSamit bores TopherThe games industry WILL rape you If I've managed to get this uploaded right, you can listen to us here or subscribe on iTunes. Whatever you want. We'll see you next week for the Street Fighter movie extravaganza!

  • Podtoid 91: Aaron Linde Fan Art

    17/03/2009 Duration: 02h24min

This week's Podtoid is almost completely unlike last week's -- it's varied, unstructured, and not even remotely pretentious the majority of the time. Also, both Linde and Samit are on it, which is nice. You can, as always, listen to it here, or subscribe to us on iTunes (which is even better). Highlights include: - Make sure to get your hands on a copy of the 1997 Street Fighter movie for next week's episode - The above art was made by Luke Barnard - BioShock 2 crap - Destructoid community lovefest - The joke that isn't a joke - No after-show conversations because the show was so damn long to begin with The best question this week came from Darth Kupi, because it gave us all a chance to vent and make jokes at someone else's expense. Send your mailing address to reverendanthony[a t]gmail.com and we'll send your Dtoid swag bag forthwith. And if you want to see Luke Barnard's full drawing, hit the jump. [The music is the Top Gun Anthem.]

  • Podtoid 90: If there aren't tornadoes on Mars, I don't care

    10/03/2009 Duration: 01h50min

This week, the Podtoid crew discusses this lecture by Jon Blow, which you should probably listen to if you have the time if you want something that -- if you're anything like the Podtoid crew -- you will vehemently disagree with but find very interesting. As always, you can listen to the new episode here. Highlights included:- If you want to get to the actual discussion, skip ahead 6 or 7 minutes- Story meaning vs dynamical meaning- Challenge vs progression- Interactivity vs pre-baked delivery- Doo-doo humor- Phallus Knife Fight is good at drawing things This week's question winner is pi to the 42. Send your mailing address to reverendanthony[a t]gmail [d ot]com, Mr. To the 42, and we'll send you a Dtoid swag bag. [The music, as will be the case for every subsequent Podtoid for the forseeable future, is from the Top Gun soundtrack.]

  • Podtoid 89: We told you so

    03/03/2009 Duration: 01h30min

This week's episode is an odd one. The games of the week segment, which usually only takes up five minutes, comprises almost half of the entire episode. One of the two news topics we were to discuss is shortened to a single sentence. The post-show discussion isn't that long and it's all about a single (horrible) thing. You can go here to listen to it all. Highlights include:- Linde explains himself to no man- 45 minutes about why most JRPGs suck- We told you so- Dante's Inferno: much ado about nothing or irresponsible and stupid?- The Watchmen movie: irresponsible and stupidThis week's prize goes to Mr Pibb, if only because it directly led to the final words of the episode proper. Send your mailing address to reverendanthony[a t]gmail [dot]com. [The song is from this ytmnd.]
