  • Delivering Happiness final Podcast by Motormouth Mark

    27/07/2010

Alright still listening to delivering happiness by Tony Shay and I really I'm loving the book. There's not a bunch of nothing bolts in it but it's just kinda historian and I'm I'm really liking a it a lot getting a ton out of it. He talked about how Amazon block them out or it's really a swapped and but Amazon just leaving them alone to run their own company. So they kinda traded out the their old venture capitalist fund. Sicoy(?) I think was the name of it. He was looking for a shorter term turn around and just at the profit side of it. For amazon he's more interested almost sounds like a little bit of of Tony Shay social experiment and Amazon really pushes their customer service in terms of terms of low price and some other.

  • Delivering Happiness # 5

___ back with you delivering happiness. Tony Shay spoke about his examples ___. They do a lot of really cool things. One thing that I was a little bit intrigued by they didn't really start working on my culture focus on it as a core of competency until they been open 5 years. So give me, give me a little pause you're looking to hiring and I kinda like do I need, just thinking about these things maybe instagate(?) different different activities and what not and I think that we can pick a way at it as we go. It's probably that never really ends. It's it's a journey not a destination. One thing that they did and I guess you can get it online is they have this zap(?) out book and it just started first with the employees and I said you know tell us what you think about zapos(?) and

  • Delivering Happiness take 4

    08/07/2010

Hi, This is Mark with Delivering Happiness. Take four and we're about four hours into the Brooke. I'm enjoying it. Tony Shay is really just talking about what it took to get the company going and all these different challenges. So there's not really like meat and potatoes business advise but to me where I'm a business owner a CEO of the company it's really interesting to listen to the different struggle they have gone through and how difficult things are and how they just had to keep persisting through it. Basically as you said before Tony Shay made 40 mil selling his previous company and he gave up seven million by not sticking around for an extra year when Microsoft got it for this rest in peace thing they call it and ___ started a venture camp.

Well I'm into the last hour of the 7 hour book. Phil(?) loving it, he talked about how a lot of creative or how a lot of people find stuff worth in their pay. But creative ain't necessarily that way and so there's all of the challenge which means they are gonna quit their day jobs and go and train, do their own thing but how did they get that self worth for themselves and I'm not plagued by that myself. I've always just kind of picked away at stuff. I'm always up to something. They also talked to about hiring people and he when he looks for people he likes to hire initiators(?) not to worry about creative need. If someone who have the initiative in themselves do something instead of looking for that MBA from Havard. Heather likes to see what are all the other extra circular that someone has been able to start and

I'm still loving the book. Talking about transparency and how that can really assist in the accountability because it's your tweeting(?) all of your employees about what you're doing and what not. You're staying more focus. He also talk about kind of community offices where different creative come together into an office and then through sharing ideas and what not it can really help but also the accountability of if, if they're in the office all the time and you're kinda coming and going then you feel worse about no I mean more dedicated until there's a peer pressure to staying dedicated to your design or what it is that you're trying to work on. So I thought that was kind of a cool ___. We have a long term vision of having co working space like that where we can bring kids from the ___.

Still just loving the book. He talked a lot about this insecurity work he calls it. That's why you're checking your emails all the time for. If you have a blog let them see how many people have read it and doing just these little busy works that don't move you forward with your action items at all. So I'm gonna be more conscious about it. I definitely do it with my email sometimes as I said earlier and let it drag(?) my day. When you talked about how creative, there's there's a few different kind and there's just the total drainer that's kind of a scatter brain and gets really hyped up on an idea and then get another idea and let's the last one fall and then he talked about increment works, which that's more of what I am and we are mixed between you know vision but also action and it can be a scenario that works. But you know like everything it's has it's strengths and it's weaknesses.
