As many readers of this magazine may have gathered, about twenty five years ago my first wife and I worked for Steve Harley and his band Cockney Rebel, running their fanclub. As a result, between 1989 and 1994 we went on tour with the band selling their T Shirts and tour programmes as well as our own wares. The 1990 tour was a particularly ni8ce oine, and I ended up writing abook aboput it , stylistically based upon Robert Greenfield's seminal account of the Rolling Stones' 1971 tour of North America. Telling it as I saw it, I was rather impressed with the resulting book, but it magaged to offend so many of the prople involved with the touring party that we were soon asked to leave, our contract was terminated. And we never worked for them again. Ho Hum! One of the members of the touring party whom I truly missed however, was a lanky tecchie called Roy who did arcane things with the mixing desk and the lighting. He was truly one of the nicest people that I have ever met in the music business, and for yea

CANTERBURY SANS FRONTIÈRES: Episode Forty—Five We at Gonzo Web Radio are very proud to bring you Canterbury Sans Frontières - a podcast dedicated to the music of the 'Canterbury Scene' and more. Creator Matthew Watkins writes: As with Canterbury Soundwaves , a new three-hour episode will be released with each full moon. I decided to wind down Canterbury Soundwaves so that I didn't end up (i) repeating myself, (ii) scraping the bottom of the Canterbury barrel, or (iii) becoming increasingly tangential. This new podcast broadens the musical remit, so it'll be about one-third 'Canterbury sound', together with progressive/psychedelic/experimental music from the Canterbury of today, the remainder being a mix of music from various times and places which I feel to be in a similar spirit of creative adventurousness. I'll be doing a lot less talking, and the programme will be less expository – so no interviews, barely listenable bootlegs, etc. I also plan to include guest one-hour mixes from various musicians

  • JEREMY SMITH'S SEVEN DEADLY SINS: 6 - Wrath

    13/04/2017

After two years presenting Strange Fruit with Neil Nixon, I've decided to move on and do something a bit different. My first idea was to sing into the microphone myself for an hour but unfortunately, the Health and Safety Executive found that this might be detrimental to public health. I've therefore decided to put together a septology of music shows based on the Seven Deadly Sins. This isn't quite a unique concept because it's already been done in writing by Dan Savage with his rather brilliant book, “Skipping Towards Gomorrah: The Seven Deadly Sins and the Pursuit of Happiness in America” and of course also by the 1995 movie, “Seven”. However, it may well be the first radio show to focus on the Seven Deadly Sins: Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath and Sloth as content and I must say, I'm particularly looking forward to Lust and Gluttony. These seven programmes will be coming out on Gonzo multi-media over the next few weeks, while I think of what I'm going to do next. Any cool ideas will be grat
