Written by Brenden Fletcher and illustrated by Cameron Stewart and Babs Tarr, we're back to finish up Volume One this week. We're diving back into the gorgeous and terrifying world of MONSTRESS, brought to us by Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda. This book is a densely-packed dive into a society built on magic, slavery, and brutal control. It should go without saying that the art is incredible, from its style to its content, and we are all amazed by how easily MONSTRESS swept us into its grasp. Maika continues her relentless quest to learn more about her past, leaving both old friends and new enemies in her wake. She struggles to understand her own power, as it often (literally) bursts from her without warning. Now that we've finished the first volume, we can't wait to start the next one! Join us as we discuss the mystery of cats, the puzzle of non-sexualized nudity, and the rarity of a story that's 90% women.

We've got our grimoires out and we're ready to learn! This week we're discussing WITCH BOY, a young adult graphic novel by Molly Knox Ostertag. Teenaged Aster is a boy growing up in a family of witches and shapeshifters whose strictly held gender roles would forever deny him the chance to study the art of witchcraft. But with the help of his new mortal friend Charlie, Aster looks for a way to follow his heart (and his growing talent) without losing his family along the way. We dive deep on this one, discussing our feelings about gender, equality, and how today's political climate affects so many kids growing up in the US right now. Jump in with us, but don't break your leg! We haven't learned that spell yet.

Ain't no leashes holdin' us down - this week we're slashing through issues #1-4 of Man-Eaters by Chelsea Cain and Kate Niemczyk. We learn quickly that in a world where teenage girls are the scariest creatures imaginable, the world still finds a way to humiliate and disenfranchise them. Luckily, teenage girls are even more resilient and creative than we give them credit for. Watch out for Maude - you never know what a girl might be capable of while she's on her period. This book is basically the lovechild of BITCH PLANET and ANIMOSITY, and we are here for it! Join us as we discuss tampons, Corgis, and Dad advice, all while ordering a flat of bottled water for the studio.

While The Girls don't normally enjoy cross-over events, but LOVE Spider-Gwen, we made an exception and dove into Seanan McGuire & Rosie Kämpe's SPIDER-GWEN: GHOST-SPIDER # 1-4, a tie-in story within the Spider-Geddon run. Our friendly neighborhood Spider-Gwen is shot through to another dimension (normal) and finds MJ and Peter working to save an their local Gwen Stacey from, well, herself (not so normal). It's a tale of too many Gwens as Spider-Gwen joins Peter & MJ to rescue this version of herself in order to get back home and save her own Spider-Family.

Finally finally finally, the Girls read OMG Check Please, the most perfect and hilarious and ridiculous and pie-filled webcomic out there (also one of our member's favorite things in the ENTIRE world). Listen in as we discuss that Captain Marvel trailer and pie-eating, woke AF hockey bros living their best college life.

And we're back with more Regularly Scheduled Interruptions with SAGA yay! The family is together and ready for a minutes long pit stop on yet another world–oh wait, it's been 6 months. (We do love this trope!) Alana and Marko have made a new life on this war-torn comet and Hazel is growing up with a bunch of new friends. Unfortunately for our new family, trouble and loss is (as always) on the horizon.

Today we’re discussing DAUGHTERS OF THE DRAGON, a 6-issue graphic novel featuring the badass duo of Misty Knight and Colleen Wing! It’s written by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti with art by Khari Evans. Will Colleen and Misty be able to team up and take down the bad guys? Probably! Unfortunately, not all of us were able to make our way to the last pages of this one. We were extremely excited to see what would happen in a book featuring these two awesome ladies, but the hyper-sexualized art and stale one-liners made this book a tough read. Greetings, all! Gather round, it's time for a DEATHBED confession. Let's discuss the tale of Valentine, a young writer tasked to tell the tale of an aging man's life story before he dies. Except, he's not actually dying and everything is MUCH more bizarre than you could ever suspect. Written by Joshua Williamson with art by Riley Rossmo, DEATHBED is a bloody, psychedelic trip narrated by The Most Interesting Man in the World (at least in his own mind). Grab your weapons—and don't forget your pants—because it's time for our last words on DEATHBED.

The Supergirl TV show may be on hiatus, but we've got plenty of Kara Danvers to discuss this week! It's a different interpretation of the Supergirl origin story, but could be a wonderful introduction to the character for younger readers. In this four-part arc, Kara is still learning to get a grip on her powers while maintaining her normal life with parents, friends, and high school track when a terrible earthquake threatens their small town. There's plenty of teenage angst, star-crossed romance, and some incredibly disgusting Kryptonian pimples. We'll discuss the parts we enjoyed, and the parts that didn't stick their superhero landing. This week we're headed back to the quaint New England town of Lovecraft, where magical keys are plentiful and wishing wells have dark shadows lurking at their hearts. Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez bring us three short stories from the world of LOCKE & KEY. The first is a bittersweet but lovely story about a father and his dying son, and explores what you might find on the other side of the moon. The second has a much more familiar tone, and involves a group of criminals who think the family living in the big house on the hill will be easy pickings, but guns are no match for the Locke family's keys. The third tale is a bit sillier, and plays more as a joke about the IDW publishing house than as a real story. We discuss which story was our favorite of the three, our favorite parts of the original Locke & Key story, and the production of a Locke & Key show AT LONG LAST. Did you have a favorite story? We've rebooted our Regularly Scheduled Interruption w/Vol 6 of our beloved SAGA! Welcome back to our favorite intergalactic space war! Everything is different, yet everything is also the same. Alana and Marko are back together and still searching for Hazel, who is spending her time in a fairly friendly prison camp learning how to read. We're making new allies and running into old enemies, and Marko's mom is probably going to start a revolution if we leave her alone for too long.

It may be unbelievably hot outside, but it’s downright chilly in the GI studio this week! We’re discussing the first three issues of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Robert Hack, and Jack Morelli’s CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA. It’s the basis of a new Netflix drama of the same name, and it’s a noir re-imagining of the super cheerful "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" we all remember. This version of Sabrina still struggles with being half-witch and half-mortal and lives with two witchy aunts, but her villains are much more murdery-y this time. The Girls are split on how they felt about the comic, so we had a great time discussing what we enjoyed (and what we absolutely hated) about these three issues! This week, the Girls read BINGO LOVE, the story of two women who met and fell in love over Bingo at their local church. Unfortunately, society and their families separated them across states for decades before a chance encounter at their old bingo hall brought Hazel & Mari back to each other.

WE'RE BACK AND IT FEELS SOOOOOOO GOOD! We've missed all of you and we've missed Jane!Thor like WOAH. This week we're back with a Previously On episode starring THE MIGHTY THOR, issues 1-3. Jane is keeping a pretty big secret from everyon, including her oncology doctors, but it's all for the greater good - at least that's what she tells herself every time she picks up Mjolnir. With satellites crashing down to Earth, dead Elves floating in space, and a congress of united races to convince, Jane must put away her problems and let Thor work on solving some universal ones.

The Interrupting team is still taking a Phantom Zone break while they catch up on comics but there's no way Infinity War could not be talked about! BLACK PANTHER, Vol 2 It's time for the main event! This week we're talking about the second volume of Ta-Nehisi Coates' BLACK PANTHER: A Nation Under Our Feet. Things seem to be escalating in Wakanda, as T'Challa takes meetings with villains and teams up with heroes. Shuri continues on her trip through the Djalia, and we learn more about the history of Wakanda and its' neighbors. What are the true origins of the nation of Wakanda?
