Sister Scriptorians

Mosiah 12   When we apply our hearts to understanding, we gain wisdom.    

Mosiah 11-12   In this episode we see the effects that flattering words can have on a kingdom, a society and how procrastinating our day of repentance leads us to consequences heavy to be born. However, is it possible that the Lord's consequences are for our own good? Can difficult times be opportunities to course correct and learn His ways? Is there something marvelous to be learned from the Lord's description of Himself as being a "jealous God?" These are questions to consider and reflect upon as you learn and liken these chapters to yourself.

Mosiah 11   What kind of leader was king Noah? What direction did he lead his people?   Why did Mormon preserve this part of Nephite history for us? This episode examines the leadership of king Noah and likens it to our day and the questions we can ask ourselves when we observe our future leaders.

Mosiah 9-10   This week we explore the history of Zeniff and his people that left the land of Zarahemla to take back the land of their inheritance from the Lamanites. Just like Zeniff, sometimes we too can be overzealous in our pursuits. These pursuits have the potential to "bite us" and changing our experience.   All is not lost! As we turn to our Lord and remember the deliverance of ourselves and our fathers, we can, "In the Strength of the Lord." still be victorious.  

We have a seer for our day. We actually have 15 men who have been called, set apart, and sustained as prophet, seers, and revelators, but this episode will only focus on the words and direction that President Russel M Nelson has given to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since April 2018. During these times of uncertainty and chaos, I ask all Sister Scriptorians to deeply contemplate the direction and promised blessings associated with these directions that our Seer has given to us. This episode has streamed together direction, prophetic charges, and promised blessings given by President Nelson.

Mosiah 8   Has a seer blessed your life?When king Lamoni discovered that king Mosiah was a seer - someone who can know of things which are past, of things which are to come, through him shall all things be revealed, secrets things will be made manifest through, hidden things shall come to light, and things which are not known – which otherwise could not be known – are made known by Him, he rejoiced exceedingly. This is God’s miracle to us. A seer benefits his fellow beings who head his words. How has a seer blessed your life?  

Mosiah 6-7    

Mosiah 5   The people of Zarahemla knew of the surety and truth of king Benjamin's words. The Spirit of the Lord God Omnipotent had witnessed to them not only the truth, but had changed their hearts. The atoning blood of Jesus Christ had cleansed them of their wrongs and they no longer had a desire to do evil, but to do good continually. As covenant makers and keepers, we too can have the experience that the people of Zarahemla had. We can have it at baptism, in the temple, when we partake of the sacrament, or even in the privacy of our own bedroom as we commune with God and put off the natural man.

Mosiah 4   The address of king Benjamin is a guide on how we can do mortality partnered with the matchless power of God. We learn about the way we can love God, why we should serve one another, and how we are all unprofitable servants to the Lord God Omnipotent. He is everything good and divine and it is our journey to choose Him, to value who He is and what He represents and to put off the natural man who is an enemy to God. King Benjamin teaches us how to do this. In Mosiah 4, the people do this very thing, right then and there as they face the temple listening to their prophet king. They learn how to be obedient and put their trust in God. They beg for a remission of their sins, receive it, and then are counseled to care for all those who beg for food, clothing, and our substance. By doing so, we retain a remission of our sins.

Mosiah 3   Last week, king Benjamin taught us about the nature of Jesus Christ. He showed us how the Savior submitted to all things in order to accomplish His mission here on earth. Today we learn about the enemy to God. God's enemy is the natural man.    

Mosiah 3   We continue with the address of king Benjamin to his people. This message was so important, so needed to be heard by the seed of Lehi, that an angel appeared to Benjamin and told him to rejoice! The Lord would be coming among the children of men in the not so distant future! Learn about from this righteous king about the Lord's coming. Learn that His name would be Jesus. He would be born to Mary. He is the Omnipotent and there have been many wonders, signs, types and shadows teaching of His coming. I encourage you to read this chapter through the eyes of the Nephites who had gathered at the temple, with their families, to learn of the marvelous God they worshiped. Feel what it must have felt like to have king Benjamin plead with people to believe upon the name of Christ.    

Mosiah 2   Mortal men can do great things with the support of the Lord Jesus Christ. King Benjamin was just a mortal man, yet he was beloved by his people because of the service he gave them, the goodness he possessed and the commandments of God that he taught them. Benjamin did much to serve his people, but all that he did for them, he did because he loved God. Learn about the first of king Benjamin's teachings and learn how we can reach a blessed and happy state.

Mosiah 1 - 2   The Nephites are about to receive a new king. Their beloved king, king Benjamin is nearing the end of his life and he has called the people to gather. Each family, separately came and pitched their tent with the door facing the temple, prepared to hear the words of God. This week, this event has a sacred meaning as we too, as families, prepare for General Conference. Words of Mormon - Mosiah 1   There has always been days of chaos and the Book of Mormon is not exempt. Yet, despite the contentions and the dissensions, the false Christs and prophets, incredible men were able to rise above and do incredible things. It take men and women of understanding to not allow evil to overcome good or for despair to overcome hope. Words of Mormon   It's at this point in the Book of Mormon where things switch up and there's a good reason for it. This week we remember why the Book of Mormon transitions from a 1st person point of view to a 3rd person point of view. We learn how the Lord knoweth all things and is able to accomplish His work. The Book of Mormon is a PERFECT example of this. Finally, we learn how the Lord can work within us. He can worketh in [us] according to His will. We might not know the "why" (Nephi never did) but if we are obedient, He can use us to do His work and make us delightsome.

Book of Omni   Amaleki presents another shift for us, but in the right direction. Finally, we have a Book of Mormon writer remember to point out the Lord's tender mercies, to preserve his teachings, and to show us the power behind our choice and the miracles that can happen in our lives because of it. Jarom - Omni   As I read the books of Jarom and Omni, I see little shifts in the record keeping that appear to be reflective of the state of the Nephite nation. This week we explore these shifts and discuss what we can do when we notice shifts in our lives that keep us from the Lord. Enos 1   Who isn't WOWED by Enos and his all day and into the night prayer??? This week's podcast explores the pattern that Enos follows to have the heavens open up to him so that he could receive personal revelation, a remission of his sins, a promise that the same is available to his people the Nephites, and that the Lamanites will eventually receive the record of the Nephites which contains the word of God. Jacob 7   This is the last chapter that Jacob will engrave upon the plates and it is crucial that we liken it to our day. Sherem was the first anti-Christ to enter among the people of Nephi. He was a learned man and had the ability to lead away many hearts because of his flattery and the power of his speech. Can you, with the same confidence and certainty say like Jacob, "I could not be shaken?" How are we to detect the deceptions of evil men?
