Starting in cancer care and changing career to become a pioneer of the new discipline of palliative medicine, she has worked as a palliative care consultant in teams in hospices, hospitals and in patients’ own homes, optimising quality of life even as death is approaching. She is passionate about public education, and having qualified as a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist in 1993, she started the UK’s (possibly the world’s) first CBT clinic exclusively for palliative care patients, and devised ‘CBT First Aid’ training to enable palliative care colleagues to add new skills to their repertoire for helping patients.   • Understanding the Dying Process with Dr. Peter Fenwick

    Dr. Peter Fenwick is a neuropsychiatrist and world renown expert on end of life phenomena, including near-death experiences and deathbed visions. He is a graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge, and is a senior lecturer at King's College, London, where he worked as a consultant at the Institute of Psychiatry.  Dr. Fenwick's research looks into deathbed visions of the dying person, as well as the experiences of hospice and palliative care workers and relatives of dying people. Along with wife Elizabeth Fenwick, Peter is the author of multiple books, the latest being The Art of Dying which helps the dying, their loved ones and their health care workers better understand the dying process and to come to terms with death itself.     After being diagnosed with Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (an incurable lung disease) back in 2014, Mike Olsen underwent an open lung biopsy surgery - and his health went downhill from there. He spent the next 5 years on oxygen 24/7 until he got the news that there were a set of lungs available for him. An ecstatic Mike was scheduled for a double lung transplant operation - during which he bled out and experienced a profound out-of-body experience that briefly took him to heaven, where he met his organ donor.
