Episodes

  • Episode 139, Aladdin (2019) - Grist House & Evil Genius

    06/10/2019 Duration: 01h48s

In episode 139, Tony & Eddie take a stroll down memory lane (in some ways), this week as they discuss the live-action remake of Disney's Aladdin (2019). You all heard about the internet fallout over Will Smith's genie here. We saw it on Twitter. We read about it in the news... but does it ruin this movie? Is it actually fantastic? The boys also review two new brews this week on the show. Tony sampled an Evil Genius Brewing Trick or Treat and Eddie tried a new one from Grist House called Solar Submarine. If you like a pumpkin brew, or are a fan of desert sours - then this is the episode for you.

  • (Mini) Episode 138 - Erie Ale Works & Harpoon Brewery

    29/09/2019 Duration: 34min

In mini episode 138, Tony & Eddie do a quick review of two new beers. Tony sampled UFO Pumpkin from Harpoon Brewery and Eddie had Robot Juice, a brand new New England IPA from Erie Ale Works. If you're new to the show, on mini episodes the boys don't review a film, but instead give you a front and center view into their thoughts on the beers they've selected. It's all done live, there's no script (that'll be obvious) and they react real-time about the beers. They also rate those beers in the UnTappd app.

  • Episode 137, The Boys (2019) - Lavery Brewing Company & Great Lakes Brewing Company

    22/09/2019 Duration: 01h06min

In episode 137, Tony & Eddie talk about the Amazon Original series, The Boys (2019). There's a lot to unpack here. This series deals with sexual assault, sensationalized superhero troupes, envy, power abuse, political corruption - the list goes on - and all of it is heavy. For a series so heavy, The Boys also pushes humor and hope. It's an odd combo that can be a powerful thing to watch. To hear how Tony & Eddie liked or did not like this series - turn into this week's episode. They also reviewed two new brews. Double Dulachan, from Lavery, packs a serious punch. Buckin' Mule from Great Lakes is also a powerful brew. For fulls reviews and our Untappd ratings of these new brews, tune into episode 137.

  • Episode 136, Hellboy (2019) - Founders Brewing & Fat Head's Brewery

    15/09/2019 Duration: 01h07min

In episode 136, Tony & Eddie pull up a chair, and a beer - well and their computers, mics, headsets and all the other crap they need - and they dive into the controversial remake of Hellboy (2019). This movie bombed at the box office. It's got really low scores on various critic sites across the board - but did the boys agree? Was there something to get out of this amped up gore-fest version of our big red anti-hero? What about everyone's favorite Stranger Things sheriff in the role? Did they like Harbour? Tune in to find out more details and the answers to those questions. The beers this week were an interesting mix. Summer is closing. Stout season is almost here. But the pumpkin beer inundation has also begun. Tony samples Fat Head's Spooky Tooth (an imperial pumpkin brew) and Eddie finally got his hands on the barrel-aged Underground Mountain from Founders.

  • (Mini) Episode 135 - Yards Brewing Company & Tanker Brewery

    08/09/2019 Duration: 33min

In mini episode 135, Tony & Eddie talk about two new beers but they skip the movie review this time around. The nights are getting colder. The days are getting shorter. You know what that means - it's almost stout season. To officially send off the summer season - the boys sample two new hoppy brews. One from, Yard's Brewing Company, called Golden Hop IPA and one from Estonian brewer, Tanker called Hallucination Uber Imperial Lager and it packs a punch. Each mini episode has a full detailed beer review at the close of the episode. If you're ready to send the bitter beers away for the season - join us for this week's episode.

  • Episode 134, Avengers: Endgame - Platform Brewery & Ommegang

    02/09/2019 Duration: 01h12min

In episode 134, "Friendgame", Tony & Eddie finally get around to talking about the culmination of ten years of Marvel story building. You guessed it, it's Marvel's Avengers: Endgame, folks. There's a lot to digest in this three hour behemoth. There's drama, comedy, some thrills for sure - and call back after call back after call back. And Eddie loved them all. This movie had a lofty goal. Paying homage to a decade of content is incredibly difficult. Converging so many paths into one story line. Giving multiple larger than life characters enough screen time to make it feel right. It's all an incredible feat really - and Endgame does it competently to say the least. This week the boys also tried some big beers to match up with this big movie. Eddie sampled a wine barrel aged version of Ommegang's Three Philosophers and Tony sampled a Platform beer called Elevated Hop Ramble. Both pack a bunch but in very different ways. If you like Belgians or highly hopped brews - check this episode out for full reviews.

  • (Mini) Episode 133 - Erie Ale Works & Lervig

    28/08/2019 Duration: 42min

In episode 133, Tony & Eddie get back (and also get back to basics). After some technically problems, 2 vacations and multiple IRL responsibilities the boys are hoping to be back on schedule and ready to keep giving you Cinefantics new content. This mini episode features a new beer from Erie Ale Works (and surprise, it's Tony that brought this one to the show and not Eddie!), and a new one from Lervig, a brewery in Norway. If you like a bitter hop or you're like Eddie and think it's always #StoutSeason, then check out this episode for some great brew reviews.

  • Episode 132, I Am Mother - New Holland Brewing & Elk Creek Cafe and Ale Works

    04/08/2019 Duration: 01h03min

In episode 132, "Hello Mudder, Hello Fodder", Tony & Eddie sit down to talk about the Netflix original, I Am Mother. Cinefantics know that to-date, a really fantastic Netflix film has been a bit of a white buffalo on the show. Does I Am Mother have what it takes to be the one? This flick balances a lot. And well. There's dread hovering over almost every scene. Your trust of each character swings back and forth over and over. The pacing is perfect. The acting is fantastic. What else is there to love? Check out this week's episode to find out. The boys also sampled new brews of course. Eddie had a kombucha beer from New Holland called Kombucha IPA: Lemon & Ginger. Tony brought a new local brew to the show called Brookie Brown Ale by Elk Creek Cafe and Ale works. Both of the beers were mild this week. One in an excellent way. One - not so much. Full reviews and UnTappd ratings are at the end of the show.

  • Episode 131, Stranger Things Season 3 - Double WIng Brewing Company & Voodoo Brewery

    28/07/2019 Duration: 01h11min

Strangerest Things 3 In Episode 131, Tony & Eddie talk about the newest season of the show that started it all for them, Stranger Things. Long time Cinefantics know that Stranger Things is what started the show and the boys thought it was great to get back to the start. There's a ton to digest in an entire season, so the boys mostly focused on things they liked, things they thought worked well, and a few notes on things they thought could have been done a little better. All-in-all, this season was a roller coaster ride of nostalgia, laughs, thrills and this time even some tears. If you want more details on the series review - tune in and check it out. This episode Tony tried a new brew from Voodoo called, Non-trademark Infringement Alma Mater. This slightly heavy IPA had more pop and less dank than Tony thought it might. But did he love it? Eddie sipped a new brew from a new brewery they've not featured on the show before called Double Wing Brewing Company. Their bourbon-aged ale packed a hell of an alcoh

  • (Mini) Episode 130, Genesee Brew House & Southern Tier Brewing Company

    21/07/2019 Duration: 44min

In episode 130, Tony & Eddie talk about two new brews. Without knowing he did, Tony's pic is from the Genesee Brew House and he was pleasantly surprised by this one. Desert beers can be palate destroyers. Often so sweet they're tough to drink - but was this salted caramel combo an exception? Eddie brought a new selection from Southern Tier Brewing Company called Lake Shore Fog. It's a hazy citrus IPA with a fantastic nose. If you know what it means when the boys start talking about the "sticky icky" kinds of IPA you'll want to tune in to hear if this is one of them.

  • Episode 129: I Kill Giants (2017) - Fat Head's Brewery & Southern Tier Brewing Company

    14/07/2019 Duration: 01h02min

In episode 129, Tony & Eddie sit down to talk about all things small, and big - in the fantasy meets reality flick, I Kill Giants (2017). This is an original film with beautiful visuals, a great cast and some fantastic young actors. However, the boys may not recommend it to everyone. You'll have to tune in to find out why. This week the boys also sampled beers from Fat Head's Brewery and Southern Tier Brewing Company. If you like a Belgian Dark Ale and you're a fan of Fat Head's check out this episode for a review of Sorcerer. If you enjoy the lighter, perhaps more sour end of the spectrum, Tony's review of Mango Crush by Southern Tier could save you some chips or embolden you to take some sips.

  • Episode 128: Us (2019) - Lagunitas Brewing & Left Hand Brewery

    07/07/2019 Duration: 01h08min

In episode 128, "Y'Us Queen", Tony & Eddie get out their gold scissors and red jumpsuits and they sit back to discuss Jordan Peele's sophomore outing, Us (2019). The boys were huge fans of Get Out. They loved the world, the off-kilter reality that was described. And, they loved the showcase of Peele's talent as a writer director of last year's breakout flick. The question is - did Us live up to that? There's amazing stuff in this movie. From visuals, to dialogue and acting. No doubt there. Tune in this week to find out more about the boys thoughts on this one. They also sampled two new beers. One from Lagunitas called, Equinox. One from Left Hand Brewing called, Push Pop Party Nitro. At opposite ends of the spectrum, one very hoppy and one very sweet - there's a lot to think about if you're going to head out to find your own. Listen to this week's episode for the brew reviews.

  • (Mini) Episode 127, Puhaste Brewery & Stone Brewing

    30/06/2019 Duration: 47min

In episode 127, Tony & Eddie skip the film review and talk just beer. Well, beer with the usual spattering of video games. For the very first time ever you'll also get to hear their Producer/Editor Josh speak in this episode. It turns out that Eddie's prep for this episode, which included practicing the pronunciation of a new brewery, turned out to be the wrong Russian word/wasn't the name of the brewery anyway. Tony went for a responsibly high ABV Stone IPA that you've got to hear about if you're a fan of the brewery (and, I mean, who isn't?). He was in love with the smell of this beer and if you know Tony, you know that's a very big deal. If you like sweet, boozy stouts like Eddie, he'll tell you about a fantastic on here in the episode. Cinnamon, vanilla, lactose - it's all here and it's all great.

  • Episode 126: Captain Marvel (2019) - Grist House & New Belgium

    23/06/2019 Duration: 01h03min

In episode 126, Tony & Eddie check out Brie Larson out there kicking cosmic ass in Captain Marvel (2019). The boys love a great comic flick, as all you Cinefantics know...but did Captain Marvel scratch that itch? How did the most powerful character in the MCU fair? Would the boys recommend this one to mima? Tune in to find out! Aside from commenting on photon blasts and 90s pop culture references, Tony & Eddie also sampled some new beers from Grist House and New Belgium. This was a win across the board on the beer front. Grist House's Carrot Cake inspired sIPA series didn't disappoint. Neither did New Belgium's Liquid Paradise IPA. It's summer and you know that means the boys want sweet, dank, hoppy brews. Check out this week's episode for more info on these excellent candidates for summer sippin'.

  • Episode 125: Fast Times at the Ridgemont Royale

    16/06/2019 Duration: 01h01min

In episode 125, Tony & Eddie sit down to talk about the fast paced, thrill packed, abundantly twist filled flick, Bad Times at the El Royale (2018). Are you a fan of a heist film? How about an action flick with powerful female characters? What about deeply character driven plot points? Or... did you like the TV show, LOST? If any of those answers are "yes", the boys think you might not want to miss out on this Drew Goddard film. They also sampled new brews from Levante Brewing Company and Elysian Brewing Company. If you're an avid listener, you know that Eddie loves Christmas, and of course he loves a good Christmas beer. Plum diddly, by Levante is a fruit and spice infused imerpial stout that really jingled his bells. Tony sipped on an American Pale Ale from Elysian called Salute the Sun. This low alcohol Pale with black limes was an interesting combo. But he wasn't ready to call it a favorite. For our film critique and some details on these two new beers, please give this week's episode a listen. And as a

  • Episode 124: Unicorn Store (2017) - Levante Brewing & Troegs

    09/06/2019 Duration: 01h03min

In episode 124, the boys watched Netflix's re-release of the Toronto film festival winner and Brie Larson directed film - The Unicorn Store (2017). This coming of age, mid-life crisis tale is packed with whimsy, and glitter, and witty dialogue. There's some humor. There's tons of cute. And there's a compelling character or two as well. Ultimately, The Unicorn Store sways back and forth a bit, dangling out in the winds of comedy, drama and in between, however. Check out this week's episode to see if the movie might be for you. There's also some beer reviews here that you won't want to miss. A new Milkshake IPS from Levante called Cut the Cake is here and you won't want to miss the review of that one (it's got Lucky Charms marshmallows in it!). We've also got a new brew from Troegs and if you like a tart fruite beer you're going to want to hear Tony's review of Boysenberry.

  • Episode 123: Triple Frontier & Founders Brewing and Ale Industries

    02/06/2019 Duration: 59min

In episode 123, Tony & Eddie take another crack at a Netflix original flick. This time is, Triple Frontier. A critically acclaimed task is up on deck in this one. And, who doesn't love a heist flick? Right? There is a lot of "good" things going on here? But, the big question is - will Triple Frontier be the first Cinemantics "3"? Tune in to find out! The boys also tried beers from Founders and a west coast beer from Ale Industries.

  • (Mini) Episode 122, Founders Brewing & Captain Lawrence Brewing Company

    20/05/2019 Duration: 44min

In episode 122, Tony & Eddie skip the flick and only sip. They sample beers from Founders brewing and Captain Lawrence Brewing company. This is an exciting episode from the brew front - there's a new brewery here (for the boys at least) and a beer that Eddie raves about so much that it could be one of the best he's ever had. If you like barrel-aged sours or chocolatey sweet stouts - turn in for this one!

  • Episode 121: Dark Tide (2012) - Erie Ale Works & Southern Tier Brewing

    12/05/2019 Duration: 57min

In episode 121, Tony & Eddie bring to you a Cinefantics film choice - Dark Tide (2012). This celebration episode marks the 10K listens milestone and the boys thought they'd let the listeners pick between the "best" movies of all time or the "worst". Have you ever heard of Dark Tide? Well, based on that answer, you can probably figure out which side of that poll won. Dark Tide is a 0% Rotten Tomatoes film. It's got a tough to swallow plot, bad villains, ify relationships, an ending with no actual resolution and none of the characters actually experience an arc. But...hey, maybe it's not that bad?

  • Episode 120 - Glass (2018) - Weyerbacher Brewing & CB Craft Brewery

    05/05/2019 Duration: 01h06min

In episode 120, Tony & Eddie finish (even though they said they wouldn't) the M. Knight Shyamalan "super" hero trilogy with a review of Glass (2018). The bar was low going into this. Split wasn't reviewed well on the show, but somehow, Glass still found many ways to disappoint further. This was an unfortunate ending to a lackluster story that just didn't deliver in the end. The good news is, this show isn't just about movies. It's also about beer. And on this episode the boys samples some real winners. This week we've got a bourbon aged stout from Weyerbacher and a milkshake IPA from CB Craft Brewing. Don't miss out on these two gems.
