Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios!   Please note that schools in LAUSD including school offices are closed for the next week.  Superintendent Beutner is planning to provide an update on Monday, 3/23/20, 11am to be broadcast on KLCS-TV and online in English and Spanish. We will more information after the update on Monday. It is critical that all of our students continue to meet with their teachers in Schoology or Zoom live conferences, stay in contact their teachers through e-mail, and continue to complete assigned school work and assessments. Grades are due next week from teachers and I am concerned that many students are not on track. Though we frequently hear “school is closed”, in fact, though our buildings are closed, we are continuing with teaching and learning through an online or virtual platform. Online learning is a legitimate form of instruction and can be effective,

    Special Message March 15, 2020 Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements! ¡Hola Comunidad de VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios!   Please note that schools in LAUSD including school offices are closed for the next two weeks and will reopen on March 30, 2020. If anything changes, we will let everyone know. There will be a Family Resource Center open at South Gate High School beginning Wednesday, March 18, staffed from 6 am to 6 pm, where students may get a warm meal, engage with their peers, and pursue their studies. Our teachers will be teaching lessons from home during the next two weeks. Students without access to a computer, laptop, or Smartphone were all given the opportunity to check-out a Chromebook or I-Pad on Friday. Please note that the portable device must be returned to school when we return. Students also took home an agreement which must be signed by parents. If you would like to take a phone of the signed agreement and e-mail it to me at etrimis@lausd.ne

Congratulations to all of our students in the Aurora Showchoir who competed in the Burbank Blast competition on Friday at Burbank High School and to all of our SRLA Runner who ran the LA Marathon today as well as our Legacy Cheer Team were cheered them on at Mile 18 of the course! Congrats also to the Junior Class who came out in force on Saturday for the first of 4 Saturday College Prep Math Academy review sessions! The hard working juniors have three more Saturdays before Spring Break and the high-stakes Smarter Balanced Assessments. El lunes es un día de inicio tardío.  This month we honor and celebrate the American Red Cross, Arts Education, Music in Our Schools, Middle-Level Education, Nutrition, Social Work, Women’s History, and Standing with Immigrant Families Awareness. On Wednesday, March 4th, we will be administering the SAT to our 11th grade students. All juniors must be at their testing locations before 8:30 am. Students will be given testing location assignments on Monday and Tuesday. Congratulations to our Legacy Spring Sports Teams who are off to a great start of their seasons. El lunes es un día de inicio tardío. Our new Parent and College Center in Rm. 116 will have a grand opening this Thursday, immediately followed by Coffee with the Principal, at 9 am. I hope you can join us!  Parents should go to the Parent Center for our workshops and events and to get info on volunteering or any other questions about school. Students should visit the College Center on a regular basis for info on scholarships, financial aid, and upcoming tests as well as to meet with representatives from different colleges and universities.  The Smarter Balanced Assessments are coming soon! Many teachers will be working with our juniors to get them ready! All juniors should plan on attending our College Prep Math sessions from 8 am to 12 noon on March 7, 14, 21, and 28. Congratulations to our Legacy Cheer team who competed at the USA Nationals competition on Friday. Look for cheer in upcoming competitions including the CIF City Regional Finals at Legacy on April 18. Congratulations to our Winter Sports teams and their well-played play-off games last week including boys and Girls Basketball and Boys and Girls Soccer. We still have one more team in Play-offs, Boys Soccer, who take on Hollywood /High School at Hollywood on Wednesday at 3 pm. We wish the best of luck to our Legacy Spring teams who start their seasons this week including Boys Volleyball, Swim Team, Track and Field, Boys Golf, Softball, and Baseball. Congratulations to our Aurora Showchoir, winning 2nd Place in the California Classic Showchoir Competition at Brea Olinda High School on Friday. Congratulations to our amazing Academic Decathlon Team with several students placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in several events and earning 3rd Place in their Division and winning the Inspiration Award. Special kudos to Mia, Robbie, Lilian, Emilio, and Pam and a super huge thanks to Coach Avalos! Congratulations to our Winter Sport Teams who are all in play-offs this week including Girls Basketball at El Camino on Thursday, and at Legacy, Girls Soccer on Wednesday, Boys Soccer on Thursday, and Boys Basketball on Friday! Congratulations to our Academic Decathlon Team (ACADECA) coached by Mr. Avalos who completed their competition season with individual speeches, interviews, and the Super Quiz event on Saturday. VAPA is one of the elite 65 high schools out of 249 high schools in LAUSD who offers a program. Already, the team is recruiting for next year’s team. Any interested students should see Mr. Avalos. Congratulations also to the Legacy Marching Band who ended their marching season on Saturday with the Chinese New Years Parade.     Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements! Monday is a late-start day. ¡Hola Comunidad de VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios!  El lunes es un día de inicio tardío. The Honor Roll Assembly honoring students from the Fall Semester will take place on Wednesday, January 29th at 5pm. Students will be notified on Monday afternoon if they will be awarded at this ceremony.  Make-up ID pictures will be Wednesday, January 29th during 4th period, beginning at 9am.  School Site Council meets this Thursday at 5 pm in Rm. D116.  We are implementing a new tardy system starting Tuesday, January 28, 2020. The front gate will be closed by 8:28 am and students will need to enter through the Welcome Center and report immediately to the VAPA Office for an electronic tardy pass. All students entering after 8:30 am will need an electronic tardy pass to enter the classroom. Detention for tardies will begin in a couple of weeks for students who accumulate multiple tardies.     Special Announcements Jan. 5, 2020 Hello VAPA Community. This is a special message from Dr. Trimis and Legacy VAPA. ¡Hola Comunidad VAPA!  Este es un mensaje especial del Dr. Trimis y Legacy VAPA.  I hope everyone is enjoying your Winter Break and are having a great new year so far! While this is the last week of Winter Break, I have a few reminders. This week we will hold our Credit Recovery Winter Intersession classes for all registered students on Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm at VAPA. Though lunch is provided, breakfast is not, so students should all eat before coming to school for their class. Please call us at the office at 323-357-7531 if you have any questions. Several of our sports teams are also practicing this week at school and coaches have their team's practice schedules.     Weekly Updates Dec. 15, 2019 Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements! ¡Hola Comunidad VAPA! ¡Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios!  We are on a Finals Schedule on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and a Minimum Day on Friday. Students start class at 8:30 am and leave at 1:30 pm for all four of these days. Thursday is a regular, 8:30-3:20 day. Thank you to all of our teachers, staff, students, and parents for working together supporting the growth of our students and school for another semester. We are only ½ way through the year with lots planned for the Spring semester!  Final Grades are due from teachers this Thursday and final progress reports will be mailed home shortly afterwards. Our Winter Break will be from December 21 through January 12 with the Spring Semester starting on January 13. There are three ways to donate your unused, unwrapped new toy: In front of the Welcome Center on Tweedy before school between 7:30 and 8:30 am this week, Tuesday through Friday, anytime at the VAPA office or any of the Legacy school offices, or by bringing your toy to the Winter Fest shows on Friday, December 6 or Friday, December 13. This is a good time for all of our students to be sure they are caught up on their work in every class and they are seeking tutoring or additional help if needed. The end of the semester will be upon us before you know it. Our goal is for every student to pass their classes with a C or better, however, to be competitive for college, students should be working towards earning A’s.
