Synopsis
Fear Of A Craft Beer Planet is a craft beer podcast hosted by lifelong friends Jay Rose, James Richard Rabic, and Rob Forczek. Jay Rose and Rob have been in the NJ beer business for 20 years and Richard spent a good amount of time in the NJ radio world. The three of them have not only shared friendship but also the stage as they were collectively involved in the slow-growing Jam Band scene in the Philly/NJ area in the 90s. The podcast works because Richard is a beer novice while Jay Rose and Rob have seen the craft beer business grow up and become what it is today. They treat the show the same way they would treat improvising on stage as musicians; not much planning and minimal actual show prep. Its a conversation about beer, the business of beer, and the parallels between the beer business and the music business. Beers are consumed and discussed, stories are told, and chaos generally ensues by the end of every episode. Get into it. Get involved.

#99 Dogfish Head American Beauty With Ryan Horner and Rob Holmes From Dogfish Head
28/12/2018 Duration: 02h30minOur last episode of 2018 finds us sitting with our friends Ryan Horner and Rob Holmes from Dogfish Head Brewing. Dogfish is releasing a beer near and dear to our hearts in January and we wanted to make sure we had this out in time to let everyone know exactly what it is. Dogfish American Beauty is a Grateful Dead inspired American Pale Ale brewed with honey and granola that was originally released a few years back in large format bottles to commemorate GD50. Starting in January Dogfish American Beauty will be released in 6pk 12oz bottles and will be available ALL YEAR LONG! Also look for 19.2oz cans at venues this summer on Dead and Co. tour. We also discuss kids in bars vs kids in breweries, as well as a Dogfish beer being created for the anniversary of the Kodak Super 8 camera. We bust out some Stone dark chocolate to pair with a Stone Xocovaza, a Dogfish Higher Math, and a Dogfish Fort, we try to define what “extreme beer” is 2018, and we talk about Dogfish’s “Seek the Seal” campaign for 2019..

#98 4th Annual Holiday Extravaganza
24/12/2018 Duration: 02h25minThe Holiday Extravaganza has become a bit of a podcast tradition for us. Usually we take time in the beginning before the wheels come off the wagon to wrap up the year and pontificate on the state of the beer world and society as a whole. This one started with NO WHEELS on the wagon and was off the rails from jump. Richard does a fine job in the intro of explaining exactly what went on in this episode and why it took a solid month to be released. Ryan Egan from Tonewood pops in halfway through to add his sober take to the holiday frivolity, banned Christmas carols are poorly dissected, beers are consumed, and a high time is had by all. Enjoy the episode and Happy Holidays from all of us on the Planet known as Craft Beer!

#97 It's The Holiday Season. So Whoop-De-Do and Tickety-Tock, Or Whatever It Is They Say
19/12/2018 Duration: 02h07minWe had a guest loosely lined up for this, the guest fell through and we already had the time blocked out, so we decided to forge forward! Why not. We drink a Stone 1-1-19 Brut IPA, some Dancing Gnome from Pittsburgh sent to us by a listener, an obligatory Troegs Mad Elf, and a Tilquin Gueuze. We try to navigate the murky waters of Richard's current life situations, talk about why it's OK to drink the same beer twice, brewery can-release-chicanery, and the 19 year anniversary of Phish 12/11/99.

#96 Ken Grossman Founder Of Sierra Nevada Brewing
13/12/2018 Duration: 01h24minThe final installment of our 2018 Craft Beer Brewer Mt Rushmore features Ken Grossman, Founder of Sierra Nevada Brewing. Ken created Sierra Nevada Brewing at his kitchen table back in the early 80's and changed the world of beer forever. We cover everything from Sierra's humble beginnings to becoming one of the most innovative and sustainable craft breweries in the country. If you're a casual fan of craft beer or a full on craft beer freak, Sierra is the reason for all of it. During the episode, we thanked Ken and told him we loved him enough for each and every listener to this podcast. He absolutely deserves all the love and admiration. Grab a Celebration Ale and enjoy the ride , it gets deep!

#95 Mike Finoia Live at Tonewood Brewing
27/11/2018 Duration: 02h53minMike Finoia is a comedian and writer based out of The Comedy Cellar in New York City. He also does a Podcast on the Osiris Podcast Network called Amigos Podcast and writes for the show Impractical Jokers. We had this date on the calendar for a few months because Mike was coming to Philly to do some shows at Helium Comedy Club. We had no idea there would be a blizzard that day that would cripple transportation in the North East. Mike made it to Philly in about 5 hours to find out his show was canceled, which technically meant we could do the podcast earlier. Only issue was, Lyft and Uber were charging $75 each way (we were 6 miles away), and mass transit was basically shut down. Mike was trapped in Philly and we were starting to make other arrangements. In the meantime Ryan Egan from Tonewood Brewing pulled up Waze and saw that if we drove to Philly and picked Mike up, it would be 25 mins in to Philly and 30 back (again, we were LITERALLY 5.9 miles away). A plan was hatched, Jay Rose jumped in his Jeep and gr

#94 Suburban Sensi Live at Tonewood Brewing in Oaklyn NJ
16/11/2018 Duration: 02h46minThis one takes place at our home away from home, Tonewood Brewing in Oaklyn NJ. We're very technically a beer podcast for music fans and we have the beer thing pretty well figured out. The music part has only ever been talked about, and we thought it was high time we brought an actual band on the podcast. The most logical band to have as our first, is a local improv, reggae, funk, soul, group called Suburban Sensi from South Jersey. They hang with us on the mics for a bit before they set up and play a few acoustic songs. These guys have a full roster of gigs coming up in the near future which can be found at suburbansensi.com They are well worth checking out! They have a new self-titled album out now on itunes and spotify or wherever you listen to music. Also, we've been trying to keep track of the beers we drink on the podcast but that absolutely did not happen for this episode. If you've heard any of our other episodes recorded at Tonewood, you'll notice that Tonewood beers bring out everyone's absolute ve

#93 Bernard Johnson North East Sales Director For Unibroue Brewing
25/10/2018 Duration: 01h49minNew shiny things are great for creating a buzz, perpetuating a fad, and creating a strong demand for things following the perpetuated fad. Music does it... tons of innovative new music is released every week. Some of it is wild and excitingly new and fantastic, and some just isn't. It all creates a ton of noise and confusion for the listener to sift through as they figure out what they like and what will stand the test of time. Sometimes it all becomes too much to follow, so you dig in the crates and pull out a classic album that changed your life. That is the theme of this podcast. Buying beer has become noisy and confusing and sometimes you need to go back to classics that got you to where you are today. Unibroue is one of the brands that changed the landscape of the beer world 20+ years ago. They continue to quietly make the best beers you've probably never had. The beer is WORLD CLASS and so is Bernard Johnson from Unibroue. Bernard now represents Unibroue, Anchor Steam, and Sapporo in the North East

#92 Jeremy Moynier Senior Innovation Brewing Manager For Stone Brewing
18/10/2018 Duration: 01h29minEver wonder how the beer you're drinking goes from an idea in a brewer's head to the finished can in your hand? Senior Innovation Brewing Manager for Stone Brewing, Jeremy Moynier, walks us through the process of coming up with new ideas, picking and harvesting hops to make those ideas a reality, and the process that goes into turning an idea into a finished product. This episode is a rare look at what goes on behind the scenes at one of the most innovative craft breweries of the last 20 years. We drank a Stone Sanctimonious IPA, a Tropic of Thunder, and a Vertical Epic 11/11/11.

#91 Just Us No Guests
08/10/2018 Duration: 01h12minSometimes you just roll without guests. This time around we get to the bottom of the Jim Gaffigan video, social media faux-outrage, and why the new generation of craft beer drinker really doesn't enjoy actual beer. We also scream about our shiny new website Fearcraftbeer.com What we drank: Cigar City Guayabera Del Ducato Oud Brunello (Oxbow Brewing collab) Half Acre Gone Away IPA

#90 Music and Beer and Podcasts with Lawn Memo
27/09/2018 Duration: 01h10min#90 finds us at Rob's house with all of our gear, beer, and for the first time ever, a hard-wired guest on the phone! We finally figured out the technology to have a guest sound decent on the phone using our equiptment. Lawn Memo is a content master. He runs a great twitter account @LawnMemo, he has 2 podcasts on the Osiris Podcast Network, he moderates a Facebook page all about craft beer that has over 6,000 followers, AND he works a full time job! We get to the bottom of his name, he breaks down his 2 podcasts, and we have an awesome conversation about the state of the craft beer union. He's a fabulous guest that is welcome on our airwaves whenever he wants!

#89 Re-Entry Is The Hardest Part
20/09/2018 Duration: 02h18minAfter a brief respite, the venerable navigators of the craft beer high seas have returned to the airwaves with another beer-soaked installment of your favorite podcast (eye roll emoji). Yeah, so we got together at Rob's house with a pile of beer and Ryan Egan from Tonewood Brewing to wrap up the Summer, discuss music you should be listening to, and Beer. We crack beers from Tonewood, Big Ditch, Hell Bay, Shorts and Paradox. We felt the IPA world shift slightly with a Brut IPA from Mraz Brewing in California. NEIPA might have to deal with a new sheriff in town in the very near future. Jay Rose spent some time off the grid, Richard updates his employment status, Rob shouts out the Osiris Youtube Channel, and Ryan Egan asks what a "wook" is. Good natured fun at its finest.

#88 Live From The Lot Phish Camden NJ 8/07/2018 with Tom Marshall, The Camden Police, and the Philly Nitrous Mafia
23/08/2018 Duration: 02h37minWhat if we did a podcast from the parking lot of night one of Phish in Camden? We could partner with Tonewood Brewing, put up a couple tents, bring some beer, and set up our gear with a generator for power right in the LOT! Great idea right? Right! We'll bring a t-shirt cannon, we'll bring Tom Marshall on, Felicia from FedNuts will be there, all our beer friends will be floating around and we'll bring them on, it'll be the perfect storm of a podcast to launch us into a 3 or 4 week break. What could go wrong? Nothin, right? it's an AIR-TIGHT PLAN! This going to be AMAZING!!!! ........ And it was. It was amazing and we have the audio to prove it. We've often said in the many years of seeing live music, especially Phish, that as good as the show is, the stories that bubble up during the entire experience are as good as the show itself and we always wished we had a way to document all the madness that goes on. Well, now that we have a podcast, that's exactly what we've done. You definitely do not have to be a Phi

#87 Flashback Friday #2 RF's First Appearance
03/08/2018 Duration: 02h20minEver wonder how Rob Forczek got involved? This was his first appearance on the podcast from way back in 2015 when our pal Dan Jacoby was our producer. We knew pretty quickly that we were on to something with this and we kept rolling into the traveling, beer-soaked-circus that you've grown to love (or hate, who knows). Always fun to look back and listen to old episodes!

#86 Greg Koch Co-Founder & Executive Chairman of Stone Brewing
26/07/2018 Duration: 01h39minIn this episode, we check another name off of our Craft Beer Mt. Rushmore list. We have the honor of spending an hour on the phone with the Co-Founder & Executive Chairman of Stone Brewing, Greg Koch. Greg is a massive inspiration not only to us, but to the craft brewing world as a whole. Without his contributions, who knows where craft beer would be right now. You can feel the energy Greg creates when he talks about craft beer throughout the episode. It's absolutely contagious, which is evident in the wrap up we did after we hung up with him. Grab a Stone Brewing IPA, fire up this episode, and enjoy the ride. We certainly did! Thank you Stone Brewing and thank you Greg Koch!

#85 Revisiting The Classics
20/07/2018 Duration: 01h39minIf you're a craft beer drinker in 2018 with the active untappd account and the Instagram page full of artful pics of hazy IPA, congrats, you're playing an adult version of Pokemon with beer instead of little augmented reality creatures. Gotta catch em all, am I right??! Well as fun and exciting as all that is, there was a simpler time when we drank craft beer for the love of the game and not for badges or hearts or innerspace street cred. This episode brings us back to those magical, heady days when Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada, and Sam Smith ran the craft beer world. We open a handful of these beers and talk about how they are the foundation of the craft beer haze craze we currently find ourselves wading through. Do yourself a favor and go revisit some of the classics that don't require a 2 hour wait in line and are always available. Plus, it's fun to watch the faces of the all the haze-bros in the beer store as you walk by them to grab a dusty bottle of Orval.

#84 Richard's Car Blew Up
13/07/2018 Duration: 01h33minWe were scheduled to talk to the nice folks from Cash or Trade on this show but because of a double booking they couldn't make it. We decided to forge forward and get together anyway because we already had the day blocked out. You'll notice quickly that there's only 2 of us on this one because Richard's car exploded. This has been an inevitability for quite some time and we're shocked it actually took this long to happen. We called Richard to get him on the show but the audio from his phone sounded like he was firing a machine gun in a field while popping popcorn and tap dancing on a paper bag. We had to edit it out because it was unlistenable. See if you can find the edit. As a change of pace, Rob and Jay Rose open some nationally branded beers that are easily accessible to most craft beer drinkers. A Crowler of Tonewood Fulffhead is opened and the boys read the Beer Advocate review for it. We're thinking this might end up being a regular segment.

#83 Joint Episode with the No Simple Road Podcast Family
05/07/2018 Duration: 02h05minWhat do you get when you combine 2 podcasts from opposite coasts with infinite similarities? A JOINT-CAST! If you've listened to any of our episodes over the last few months you will remember us mentioning a podcast from Portland Oregon that we fell in love with called No Simple Road. We did an episode of their podcast via the the glories of the information-super-web that allowed us to see each other on a screen and do a podcast with 2870 miles of earth between us. Technological sorcery at its finest! We rap about how our podcast became a thing, all of the similarities between our show and theirs, the Osiris Podcast Network, and how both of our shows became a part of the network. If you like us, you are sure to fall in love with No Simple Road like we did. This laid back conversation between 2 podcasts is the perfect way to unwind from a mid-week shot of July 4th adrenaline!

#82 The Whole Story And An Exciting Announcement
28/06/2018 Duration: 56minIt's been a while since we did a "just the 3 of us episode." This is just that. Jay Rose explains his new fascination with sparkling water and the fact that he's wearing what appears to be a cast for some reason. The whole story is brought to light. Rob Forczek makes a Stone Brewing related announcement, and we prep for our "joint episode" with the No Simple Road Podcast Family from Portland Oregon.

#81 Live at Acto Brewing in Atco NJ
21/06/2018 Duration: 02h02minEpisode #81 takes our traveling circus to Atco Brewing Co. in Atco NJ. For those unfamiliar with Atco, it sits exactly 1/3 of the way between Philadelphia and Ocean City NJ. Grabbing cans and crowlers for the beach on the way to the shore is definitely a brilliant plan. Dan Hoover, one of the owners of Atco Brewing, sits in to enlighten us on his beers, his location, and future plans for the business which may include a firehouse, he explains it in the episode. Our good friend Chef Todd Bannan swings in with some outrageously good homebrew and an easy candied bacon recipe, and our friend Andy hangs out to give a young man's perspective on the whole situation. We suggest pairing an Atco Brewing Swell Head IPA with the episode, if you can't swing that then grab your fav IPA. Let's go!

#80 Fear Of A Craft Beer Flashback Featuring Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company
15/06/2018 Duration: 01h56minIn honor of their 6th anniversary, we put together an episode featuring Rob Jahn and Jeremey Myers, 2/3 of the ownership team from Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company. These guys were cool enough to let us hang in their brewery, record a podcast, and act foolish 3 years ago. This episode shows a bit of a turning point for us; it shows us going from recording ourselves in a room and cracking dumb jokes to us actually figuring out how to stumble into informative conversations with real people in the beer biz on the fly. We met DC Nick for the first time, we navigated equipment glitches (shocking I know), and we tried our best to sound like a legitimate podcast. Not sure it worked, but boy did we try. We're definitely still acting foolish, though so no worries there! Happy 6th anniversary Neshaminy Creek Brewing! Keep fighting the good fight!
