    Deb Elder, or Dive Girl Deb is a lyme disease activist in Oregon. after being misdiagnosed and suffering for over 20 years. Deb was told by the hospital system her health plan covers that their Infectious Disease doctors do NOT treat Lyme Disease PERIOD. Deb has been active in Eugene and throughout the state of Oregon putting on events to bring greater awareness of Lyme disease.     Holly Ahern, Ph.D. is an associate professor of microbiology at SUNY Adirondack who runs an undergraduate research lab. She first encountered Lyme disease when her daughter, a highly ranked competitive swimmer, became ill with “a weird set of symptoms” in her senior year of high school. When Holly Ahern found out that her daughter’s mysterious illness was Lyme disease, she quickly immersed herself in the subject. She soon learned about the controversies swirling around the disease and came to realize that many others were suffering like her daughter. Ahern has become an advocate for developing a broader understanding of Lyme disease – one aimed at treating the chronic symptoms commonly reported by patients who were misdiagnosed or received inadequate treatment in the disease’s early stages. Coping with pain takes a lot of time and money: acupuncture, physical therapy, osteopathy—you name it, I’ve tried it. I have lots of brain fog, yet I need to research; this is one of the reasons I started this blog. I spent the last few years being too depressed to do anything at all.     After Hurricane Katrina, Brenna Faulk and her family moved from Louisiana to Montana. She was sick off and on for several years, deteriorating rapidly after coming down with what she thought was strep throat, but she never got better. This sent her to a series of doctors, first to her local doctors, then out to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Az, and finally out to a doctor in California, who prescribed an iGenix lab which proved the presence of Lyme, Babesiosis, Anaplasmosis, and central nervous system involvement. Brenna has been diagnosed with neurological Lyme, and receives IV antibiotics to combat her symptoms. She has been combating Lyme now for five years.
