This week, we examine God's Word in Galatians 5:13-26 as we learn about the works of the flesh and the fruits of the Spirit and see that . . . "Joy is Relational" Joy is fundamentally relational. Selfishness and self-centeredness are in opposition to joy. God’s design is that joy is to be experienced and shared with others. Jesus frees us to experience and share joy with others.  Therefore, relying on the Spirit, we can seek opportunities to experience and share joy with others. So, for God’s glory and our good, let’s share the joy God has given us with one another. A significant part of the mission of the church is to make sure people hear this good news. Therefore, we ought to be a part of the mission to spread the good news of Jesus. Three significant ways for us to practice the truth: We embrace our identity as those created to reflect God’s goodness and to have fellowship with him. We are quick to confess how we fall short. We cling to Jesus as our only hope and submit to him as Lord. Therefore, we ought to practice the truth. "Truth is to be Handled with Care" The truth about truth is this: Truth should be handled with care. This is true about all truth, but it is especially true when we are handling the truth of Scripture. We need to handle the Scriptures carefully because it is too easy to twist them to say what we want them to say. If we fail to see how the Scriptures point us to Jesus, we have failed to understand them correctly. Therefore, we ought to endeavor to know and understand God’s truth. Ruminate on Scripture, especially on how it leads to Jesus! Ask questions in community. Pray. Trust those who teach faithfully, but verify what they say. "Sinners Suppress Truth" The truth about truth is this: Sinners Suppress Truth Sinners tend to deny God and his truth while making something other than God central to life. This suppression of truth leads to all kinds of deviations from what is truly good. Christians are not immune to the truth suppressing effects of sin. All of this emphasizes our great need for Jesus. Therefore, we ought to AFFIRM the Truth. Admit how you personally suppress God’s truth. Face the truth of your need for Jesus. Find truth in Christ. Internalize the truth of Scripture. Rely on the Spirit to guide you in truth. Meet regularly with other truth pursuers.
