The Psalms of Ascent were songs written for the pilgrims to sing each time they were approaching Jerusalem for the festivals. Psalm 124 is a psalm that focuses on how God had been their helper so many times in the past. Those times of being rescued by God now give us faith lead us to live lives that are free from despair.

The apostle Paul was able to face the future with extraordinary confidence, because he found his security not in his grip on God but in God's grip on him.

1 Peter 4:7-11 shows us that we will all be required to give an account of what we have done with what God has given us. We are called to show love for one another, so how are we loving others that God has placed in our life?

In Romans 6 : 1-14 Paul tells us the wonderful news that we are dead to sin and alive to God - but what does that mean for our lives? Being an instrument of righteousness, and being sanctified means we are being used for our original purpose, cleansed of sin and being made more like Christ.

In Romans chapter 5, Paul unpacks what the cross did for those who follow Christ. We were once alienated - but now we have peace and reconciliation with our Creator. We now can now rejoice in hope because of what Jesus did for us.

1 Corinthians 6:9-20 shows us how Paul addresses sexual sin in Corinth. His letter to the Corinthians instructs them in how they should live and should guide us in how we as a church should interact with the LGBT community : in truth and in love.

Pastor Brett looks at Romans 3:19-26 and explains how we are found righteous before God because of the cross. That is a gift to those who believe that Jesus sacrificed his life for them.

Jesus tells his disciples in John 16 that there will be sorrow and pain, but that will fade into Joy. Jesus was able to find joy even when he was carrying the cross. His joy was fixed in God's plan and the fulfillment of what he had been sent to do.

From this month's Flourish gathering at the Art Nest. Looking at Psalm 73, we find that waiting can be difficult. The gift that we find in waiting is treasuring Jesus above all else.

Pastor Jason Every from Port Elizabeth South Africa, a candidate for lead pastor at Sunrise Community Church, teaches from Daniel 1:8-21. In this passage Daniel shows us how we can engage in culture without being conformed to the world's ways. He was resolved to follow God's commands while still in a culture opposed to his beliefs, yet he still influenced those around him by God's grace.

What does it mean to abide in Christ? Jesus explains in John 15 that He is the vine and we are the branches. Without the Holy Spirit we are unable to produce the fruit that only comes from being connected to God.

In John 14, Jesus explains the blessing of having the Helper. He speaks of the Holy Spirit who helps us live the way we should. He is a gift for all of those who have experienced salvation in Jesus.

Forgiveness is difficult, especially when we feel like we have been wronged and do not see justice served. But what should our attitude be like towards those that hurt us? Jesus shows us.

John 13:36-14:14 shows us an account in which Jesus teaches the disciples important information before he is taken away to the cross. He is the only way to Father.

John 13 shows us a scene where Jesus kneels down to wash the feet of his disciples. In that act, he is teaching the disciples what it means to love, and what it means to serve. He then calls them to serve each other in love.

In Genesis 50 we see how Joseph continues to show mercy and forgiveness to his brothers. How was Joseph able to forgive his brothers of such betrayal? He let go of vengeance and worry and trusted that God reigned over all.

In Genesis 32 we see the account of Jacob wrestling with God. That encounter with God changed Jacob, he even left with a new name, Israel. What was it about that meeting that changed Jacob? He met a God who gives grace.
