Paul states the authority he is writing in when he says, "an apostle". Paul is looking at the promise of life instead of his conditions.

This is an introduction into the book of second Timothy. We study the when, where and who of the book.

Paul personal instruction to Timothy. Guard what God has deposited in you. Stay away from godless and foolish discussions. Some have strayed from the faith. Grace be with you.

Paul tells Timothy to instruction the rich to give and in doing so they will lay a good foundation for the future. Riches are uncertain. Hope in God

The appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ can be twofold. Either at Timothy's death or at the rapture. Jesus will appear at both times. His appearance is the main thing.

Paul continues his charge by telling Timothy to obey the command to fight the fight of faith ad hold on to eternal lie. Do it without spot of reproach. No one will find fault with you.

Paul gives Timothy a charge. That was to fight the fight of faith and hold on to eternal life. He lists two witnesses to this charge, go, the giver of life and Christ Jesus who had a good testimony.

Paul tells us to flee from the love of money. We are pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.

Paul tells us what the love of money will do to us. It will bring all sorts of evil into our lives. Longing for money will cause us to wander away from faith.

Paul reminds us that everything in this world is temporary. The lust or desire to be rich leads ultimately to ruin and destruction.

Paul tells Timothy that godliness is a way of great gain when it is accompanied with contentment.

What are false teachers like? They are conceited. They do not understand the truth They are always questioning things and fight over words. This cause a lot of trouble in the Body of Christ.

What do false teachers do? They teach different doctrine than what has been taught by Jesus. They teach things that are not in accordance with godliness.

How should slaves treat their masters? With honor and respect even if they are believers.

Good deeds are quite evident. They are seen but there are some that will not be seen until God reveals them.

Paul tells Timothy not to only drink water but to use wine as a medicine. The evidence of sin is sometimes seen and sometimes not seen until judgment.

The ordination of elders is a very serious thing. Let us see what Paul told Timothy about laying hands on elders.

Paul strongly charges Timothy to guard these principles on the treatment of elders in the church.
