To those who are called. The Gospel is power and wisdom. What does that mean?

The Jews wanted a sign and the Greeks wanted wisdom. We preached Christ crucified! The Jews stumbled and Greeks thought it was foolishness

In this podcast we see the difference between the wisdom of God and the wisdom of man. The Corinthians put great emphasis on wisdom and knowledge.

The preaching of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing. The preaching of the cross is the power of God to those who are being saved.

Paul lists the people that he had baptized. Then in verse 17 Paul clarifies that what he did was preach the Gospel. Then Paul says that he did this so the cross would not be void. Following personalities instead of Christ makes the cross void.

Paul tries to get the Corinthian church away from centering on personalities and to center on Christ. He asks three question. Basically Is Christ divided? Did Paul die for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Paul begins to correct the first problem that has been reported to him, the division in the church.

Paul tells the Corinthians that God is faithful His faithfulness is unconditional. He calls us into fellowship with Jesus.

The Lord will confirm and call you blameless until the end. That is a word of comfort to the Corinthians and to us.

How is the testimony of Christ revealed? It is through the gifts of the spirit. Paul says that the church at Corinth was not lacking in the gifts. He also says the gift will be there until the revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul thanks God for the Corinthians. Once again he recognizes the grace of God that is enriching their speech and knowledge.

Even though this church was a mess, Paul still recognizes the grace of God for them. He calls them sanctified, and saints. He tells them that they a part of all those who are believers. A great word of encouragement!

John closes the letter by telling people that those who are from God do good and those who do evil have not seen God. He also tells them not to imitate evil.

John tells Gaius to support these brothers who were persecuted. Then John talks about Diotrephes. He was a leader in a church in Asia Minor but was opposed to John. He forbid people to give to the brothers who were strangers.

Gaius and the church have been ministering to the needs of the brethren who were strangers to them. These believers were suffering from persecution and had lost everything.
