  • Episode 39: Hydramelody Live

    23/03/2015 Duration: 30min

Episode 39: Hydramelody LiveHere’s our second “live from the board” episode, this time featuring friends of 210 and alum, Hydramelody. This was actually from January 23rd at Jack’s Patio. Due to having a pack full of dead batteries, I missed all but 4 of the songs that Hydramelody played that night. Luckily, you get to hear them!Huge shout out to Octahedron, who opened for Hydra that night and to whatever magician of a sound guy that Hydramelody brought in. I usually have issues when I want to record directly from the mixing console, but this sound guy said, plug in and we’ll get it done. I had planned on recording Octahedron, but it just didn’t seem to be in the cards this time. To make it up to you guys and to Octahedron, I plan on recording them very soon and hopefully adding an interview to that as well. I’m just sorry because you guys missed out on what was some really great music. Good things come to those who wait, so keep an eye out for Octahedron later this season.Next, Hydramelody prefaced their ama

  • Episode 38: Donella Drive

    16/03/2015 Duration: 01h17min

Episode 38: Donella DriveFirst off, this is probably the most relaxed interview I’ve ever done. This isn’t a reflection on other bands, but primarily because I’ve talked with Drew and Aidan many times over the last few years about Donella Drive or seen them at other shows around town. This lends itself to the most in depth look at the individuals behind the music than ever before. I’ve been able to see this band move from being led by one female singer to becoming an instrumental band, and finally, full circle to another female singer. They’ve evolved, grown, and become one of my favorite local bands to experience live.Donella Drive is:Ella Macias - Vocals & MidriffAidan Escalante - Guitar & ComedyAndrew Salazar - Bass & The Serious Guy (not really)Colt Wrangler Lyons - Drums & Hard Working Man HandsThey’re currently gearing up to release their album Anomalous on April 25th at HiTones with The Heroine, Lonely Horse, and RMRS!Check out their home on our site at 210LocalMedia.com/DonellaDrive an

  • Episode 37: Blackbird Sing RADIO

    11/03/2015 Duration: 39min

Episode 37: Blackbird Sing RADIOThanks for checking out episode 37 of 210 Local Media Podcast. We’re into episode 3 of the new season and we’re bringing back our RADIO episodes! Our first RADIO episode is from a local favorite, Blackbird Sing. I had heard about them playing shows around the area, from the Unavoidable Drudge podcast, and I happen to work with the drummer, Daniel! Blackbird Sing also happens to be our first band to provide their lyrics to help us premier our new www.210LocalMedia.com/Lyrics page! There’s not much on there yet, but they believed in our mission to create a local lyrics archive. We’ve also gotten Girl in a Coma added to, so please check out the page and you can even sing along with the episode if you’re not already familiar with this awesome Folk and Country/Rock band.Blackbird Sing is:Vito Salinas: Singer/Songwriter, GuitarGeorge Ransom: BassJames Magallanez: Guitar, Percussion, and HarmonicaDaniel Magallanez: DrumsAndy Salazar: Lead Guitar, Piano, and TrumpetThe album we’re playi

  • Episode 36: Alamo City Comic Con 2014

    02/03/2015 Duration: 01h31min

Episode 36: Alamo City Comic Con 2014What a difference a year makes… Last year’s Comic Con was at least ten times more amazing than their inaugural opening in 2013. As a matter of fact, during the Con’s first year, they brought in over 35,000 visitors during the 3-day raid on the Convention Center. In 2014, that number skyrocketed to almost 80,000 and in some reports, as high as 100,000 people. This year, I got to spend more time enjoying the con rather than worrying about recording for the podcast, but luckily, that actually helped me relax and record probably the same amount as last year. First up, I was able to interview the owner of Bean Pot Toiz, Grego and their social media manager, Kaylah. We talked about the success of the collectibles market and how Bean Pot Toiz is different from other “toy” sellers. We also discuss their new project, Bean Creative, which is all about the customization of toys, vinyls, and other collectible items. Grego also discusses some possible future project to help fill the voi

  • Episode 35: Tera Ferna Live and Acoustic

    23/02/2015 Duration: 55min

Episode 35: Tera Ferna Live and AcousticThanks for coming back for season two of 210 Local Media Podcast and our first “record from the board” show with Tera Ferna at Jack’s Patio here in San Antonio, Texas. I’ve been holding on to this episode for a while due to some sound issues, but I think we’re all set at this point, plus I’ve been wanting to relaunch 210 once I had more content to roll out. With that being said, we will not return to a once a week release like we did for season one. Instead, I will keep to an episode every other week… at least. There may be some occasions to release more than one episode in a two week span, but I’d rather just guarantee every other week for now. This episode was recorded at Jack’s Patio in 2014 and is Tera Ferna’s first live and acoustic show. Huge thanks and shoutout to the band for allowing us to record the show and share it with you here. Another shoutout to the sound guy at Jack’s (although I don’t think they’ve got the same guy anymore). This was a great live show w

  • Episode 34: Season 1 Finale

    22/03/2014 Duration: 53min

Episode 34: Season 1 Finale    Well, I finally got around to putting out an episode that we will call our season 1 finale. For those who follow us on Twitter and Facebook, you know that I’ve been really sick for the last few weeks and unable to make an episode. With my illness effecting everything, especially my family, I’ve decided that 210 will be a seasonal podcast. I only plan on taking a month or two off, but don’t worry, I’ll also be using that time to knock out some interviews, get a hold of more music, and gather more amazing and new types of content for you. With that being said, This episode is a mixture of previously unreleased interview moments that I found kinda fun, as well as some music.    First up, I wanted to share some of the beginning recording of the interview I did with The Black Market Club. I figure this will give you some more fun tidbits of their personalities and mine. We’ll talk about ears of corn, John Wayne, my backup mics, and a minor sound check.    Next up, I’ve got some bonus

For those who are joining us for the first time, welcome to the podcast where you can enjoy what San Antonio has to offer. We’ve largely been focused on music, but we also enjoy bringing you art, film, and various forms of entertainment in and around the greater San Antonio area. Take a listen to our back catalogue for tons of interviews and amazing indie music, as well as our San Antonio Women of Rock episode, #31. This is the second part or volume 2 of that episode, but the term ‘rock’ is being used loosely since we’ve got some country, folk, and indie tunes. Let’s dive right in!Bekah Kelso, ReverbNation’s #7 on the Pop/Indie/Soul-Folk Bohemian chart and San Antonio Current’s 2013 winner for Best Singer Songwriter and Best Song. • Episode 32: San Antonio Gaelic Athletics Club

    13/02/2014 Duration: 17min

Episode 32: San Antonio Gaelic Athletic ClubThis week, we step into our general entertainment segment by speaking with a player and the Public Relations Officer of the San Antonio Gaelic Athletic Club, and my best friend, Rick Ortiz. For those who are unfamiliar, Gaelic refers to Irish and Scottish generally and in this case, the sports that were born in Scotland and Ireland. In this case, we’re going to focus on Irish Football, but there’s also a sport called Hurling, that I’m particularly fond of.Rick and I talk about the Gaelic culture here in San Antonio, the sports, the language, and all of the things that not only make us proud of our Irish and Scottish brothers, but of our own heritage. Towards the end of the episode, we dive right into music specifically, as well as the music of the local scene.Important Dates:This Saturday, February 15th, catch the San Patricios vs Irish Citizen Army FOR FREE at The University of The Incarnate Word Soccer Fields at 4301 Broadway. Irish Heritage Day is on February 23r

  • Episode 31: San Antonio Women of Rock Volume 1

    30/01/2014 Duration: 42min

Episode 31: San Antonio Women of Rock Volume 1This episode, we’re focusing on some great San Antonio bands with female vocalists. Huge shout out to Nina Diaz of Girl in a Coma who’s already in the studio recording her solo album and another shout out to Phanie and Jenn from Girl in a Coma for starting their riot girl side project, Fea. This doesn’t mean the band’s breaking up, just exploring new things. Honestly, I’m hopeful in the idea that this means that they’re using these projects to work things out creatively and return to Girl in a Coma refreshed and raring to go. Now, I’ve got to apologize that there won’t be any GIAC songs in this episode, but I don’t have any releases to play them on the show. It seems to me that when a band is on a label, it makes it that much more difficult to work with them. This isn’t a reflection on the band, just the process and red tape that comes with dealing with legal entities and people who are trying to watch their backs and are being use to getting taken advantage of. I

  • Episode 30: The Black Market Club

    22/01/2014 Duration: 47min

The Black Market ClubThis episode, we finally get back into interviews! I was really glad to have gotten some time to sit down with The Black Market Club, not only because I've seen them live 5 times by this point, but because they were the unofficial headliners for the 210 Toys for Tots concert event we held last year. These five guys have an amazing sound that is very unique and, as you'll hear in the interview, this is in large part to their extremely varied musical backgrounds and tastes. We also talk about some of the difficulties local indie bands face as well as the Kickstarter Campaign they ran for their prior EP and possible future campaign for their full length album. They're launching a mini Texas tour starting tonight, Wednesday January 22nd, in San Antonio at the Limelight with tourmates Luxley. Their next stop is Austin's The Red Eyed Fly on the 23rd, College Station's Revolution Cafe on the 24th, and finishing their stint off in Houston at Mango's Cafe on the 25th. Hopefully you can make one of

  • Episode 24: Pop Pistol RADIO

    28/11/2013 Duration: 01h19min

First of all, I was on KRTU Indie Overnight out of Trinity University on Monday night. • Episode 21: The Alamo City Comic Con 2013

    07/11/2013 Duration: 43min

Thanks to the Alamo City ComicCon for allowing 210 Local Music access to the Con as media!! This was a very exciting event and is San Antonio's first true ComicCon. I have to say, overall it was a huge success. The place was packed, tons of people got turned away because the portion of the convention center being used by the ACCC (which wasn't a huge area this year) was completely swamped with celebs, local celebs, comics, cosplayers, and 210 Local Music with Ortiz Media. In this episode, you get to hear a brief review of the Con, an interview with one of the organizers, Joseph Devine. Joseph also happens to be the guy behind San Antonio's Zombie Walk event and a member of two local San Antonio bands; Hotel Homicide and BitForce! We also interviewed fellow podcasters, Justice in the Capital, a Tokusatsu podcast. Finally, I share a good chunk of the Walking Dead panel discussion from Sunday with Travis Love (Schumpert), Addy Miller (THE FIRST zombie from the series), and Kylie Szymanski (The Governor's daughte
