Little did Alix know, in the next few years, he would receive an opportunity to immigrate to the United States, join the Maryland National Guard as an enlisted Soldier, obtain an appointment to the United States Military Academy, serve as a Regimental Commander, graduate with honors in physics, and commission as an Army aviator.
