  • 199: Gunners shoot down wounded Reds

    14/05/2024 Duration: 01h35min

On this week’s episode of the Strettycast we analyse the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, plus Barmy Article editor Andy Slator joins us to talk about the women’s team winning the FA Cup over the weekend. Title-chasing Arsenal edged past United at Old Trafford on Sunday as Erik ten Hag’s side fell to their 14th league defeat of the season. There is a growing acceptance that United have not got the players to compete in these fixtures, but that doesn’t make the 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace any better. Casemiro is attracting more criticism with every game he plays at centre-back. It’s only getting worse but his days at Old Trafford are numbered. Sir Jim Ratcliffe was at Old Trafford for the game to carry out a matchday survey. This somehow led to criticism for the co-owner, who had plenty to say to an Old Trafford employee ahead of the game. He would not have been impressed to see the roof leaking again.  David Moyes or Marc Skinner Although the women’s team made history by winning the club’s first-ever major trophy

  • 198: Burnley, Palace, an entire squad for sale?

  • 197: Scenes at Wembley, consecutive FA Cup finals & Bruno stuns Blades

    26/04/2024 Duration: 01h20min

Dale and Brian review a chaotic FA Cup semi-final at Wembley which went to penalties before Manchester United got back to winning ways in the Premier League. You would be mistaken if you thought these results would bring positivity to United because the media has been too busy tearing strips out of Erik ten Hag. The lads have their say on that and more. We also dedicate some time discussing the latest Fans Forum meeting, as well as our listener questions. Thank you for the continued support this season. Learn more about your ad choices. • 196: Defensive mishaps, social media slip-ups & Steve Bruce wearing a mankini

    15/04/2024 Duration: 01h07min

Dale and Brian dwell on Manchester United's 2-2 draw at Bournemouth, the added drama that came from social media after the game and dressing room bickering. United were lucky to escape with a point from the Vitality Stadium on Sunday and the result means our Champions League hopes are barely hanging by a thread. That result only puts more pressure on Erik ten Hag, so the lads question whether the writing is on the wall for United's manager. The lads also look forward to a trip to Wembley this weekend where United take on Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final. Dale and Brian would like to thank our listeners for their continued support plus the questions submitted for each episode. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • 194: Gareth Southgate links, Kobbie Mainoo 'hype' & academy insight

    28/03/2024 Duration: 01h39min

Dale and Brian are joined by fellow Stretty News writers Matt and Fabiola for a chat about all things Manchester United during the international break. That, of course, means a discussion around the timely Gareth Southgate links. Try not to shudder as we look at the prospect of Waistcoat landing the biggest job in football. The international break brought more (deserved) hype to Kobbie Mainoo, but hear why we're concerned about the English media. It shouldn't come as a surprise. Furthermore, Fabiola gives us some insight into the academy. Sit back, relax and get yourself comfy, it’s episode 194. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • 193: Amad way to shatter Liverpool's quadruple hopes

    18/03/2024 Duration: 01h30min

Amad Diallo sends Old Trafford into a 120th-minute frenzy as Manchester United dispatch Liverpool en route to an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. Shaun Connolly, Dale O'Donnell and Brian Murphy run through the 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup that will go down as one of the best cup ties of all time. Several players stood up to the plate to warrant a result that gets the lads talking about Erik ten Hag's job security. Surely, now the objective to win the FA Cup becomes more achievable after a favourable semi-final draw against Coventry City, who knocked out Wolves on Saturday. The semi-final will take place on April 20, although no kick-off time has been announced yet. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • 191: Derby defeat reactions, Rashford frustrations & Ten Hag support

    05/03/2024 Duration: 01h14min

Shaun, Dale and Brian digest events at the Etihad, the frustrations of Marcus Rashford Rashford, an FA Cup quarter-final with Liverpool and, of course, your questions. The sheer thrill of Marcus Rashford’s stunning opener after 8 minutes led us to believe we were on the cusp of a magnificent victory away at City, but the Reds couldn’t keep their rivals out in the second half and we ultimately proved to be second best as many expected. We discuss the performance as well as Erik ten Hag’s gameplan and the many wild reacts that followed on from the 3-1 defeat. Some players, such as Casemiro and Jonny Evans, were unable to sustain a 90-minute performance against a team of City’s quality. There’s also a few who are simply not good enough. United did not have the quality on the pitch, or squad depth, to make Pep Guardiola’s side as we slipped 11 points adrift of fourth-place Aston Villa. Brian Murphy and Dale O'Donnell are joined by Jonny Escott after a weekend which saw Manchester United’s unbeaten run come crashing to an end, after a buoyant Fulham side put Erik Ten Hag’s men to the sword. The upbeat morale since the turn of the year has taken a drastic hit amongst reds, Ten Hag has returned to the in, out, shake it all about managerial merry go round once more and question marks are being raised around many of the first team squad and if they are to be kept at the club past the summer transfer window. • 188: Resurgent United keep top four hopes alive

    14/02/2024 Duration: 01h19min

Shaun, Dale and Brian are together again in the hope that Manchester United can continue their unbeaten run in 2024 with more wins. This time, it’s time to reflect on a huge 2-1 win in the race for top four. Scott McTominay earned that win with another late goal, prompting magnificent scenes in the away end at Villa Park. We dive into how McTominay has put the work in to find a unique role in a side he was almost pushed out of last summer. In defence, Harry Maguire was his fabulous best. United dominated set-pieces as a result and he recorded an assist for Rasmus Hojlund’s opener as the Dane made it five goals in as many league matches. The pursuit of Champions League football continues this weekend with United’s first ever trip to Luton Town. Thanks for supporting the Strettycast. Learn more about your ad choices. 17/01/2024 Duration: 01h19min

Dale, Shaun and Brian breakdown Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham at Old Trafford – was the performance a worry or should we continue making excuses for shoddy displays week after week? Marcus Rashford looked like a player that is getting back to his best, but his goal celebration irked a few, including some of our panel. The lads share their first impressions of Sir Jim Ratcliffe after a productive week meeting with fan groups. It shows they’re at least interested in getting close to the core of Manchester United. Dale also struggles with a few pronunciations and secretly hopes Kylian Mbappe never signs for United. Not that we’ll be seeing that happen anytime soon! Finally, we don’t ever ask for any help but this time we take exception. One of Brian’s best mates’ little daughter has a battle on her hands unfortunately. Keith is a big Red having founded and chaired an official MUSC for over a decade, and he’s helped so many Reds in that time. Now, his family needs our help. His 21 month old littl
