The Bible gives us lots of names for God. Daniel 7 tells us that God is the Ancient of Days. Belshazzar, the son of Nebuchadnezzar, makes a mockery of God by throwing a debaucherous party in praise to pagan gods while drinking wine from vessels from the temple in Jerusalem. A hand appears and writes on the wall, and Daniel is the only one who can interpret it. The meaning of the writing: the kingdom will fall because of the pride of Belshazzar. Daniel is fluent in the language and culture of Babylon and the Scriptures and ways of God. This makes Daniel a faithful and accurate interpreter. Just as Daniel has allowed the God of the Bible to interpret his own life, Daniel can then faithfully speak truth to the King Nebuchadnezzar and declare to him that despite human limitations, there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.
