The Kings controlled play, but the Panthers capitalized on their limited chances in the period and were fortunate to go into the second tied at 2, due to the team giving up a good amount of breakaway opportunities. The Panthers cleaned it up defensively and were able to take the lead after a clean breakout with LA having multiple players down low in the Panthers end, birthday boy Sam Reinhart scored what would end up being the game-winning goal to give the Panthers the lead in the second. With a heavy heart, Marchand got the Cats on the board first and they were once again working as a five-man unit as they were able to roll their lines on Saturday night. Marchand also gave the Cats the win in the shootout as he came in with a burst of speed. Florida switched their lines up putting Eetu Luostarinen at the third line center, something we don't see much since Paul Maurice took over. Panthers scored less than two minutes into the game after a beautiful move from Brad Marchand to create a shooting lane, and Evan Rodrigues cleaning it up after the initial save, but the Panthers got nothing more after that.
