  • Nottingham Forest 2-1 Manchester United: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    31/12/2023 Duration: 44min

The Reds recorded their first win over Manchester United in many a year, with goals from Nico Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White sandwiching Marcus Rashford's effort (following a goalkeeping ricket from Matt Turner). Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz and Jeremy Davies to discuss Nuno's game plan with two number 10s, the benefits of counter-attacking and the fate of our hapless goalkeeper. We are joined by Jon from the Magnificent 24_7 Manchester United podcast to provide the view from the away end. We will be back next week with the Friday 5 and a report on the Blackpool FA Cup tie - in the meantime, thank you for listening in 2023 and wishing you a Happy New Year. • Newcastle United 1-3 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    27/12/2023 Duration: 54min

It was a wonderful Christmas present for Reds fans as Chris Wood's hat-trick gave the Reds all the points against the striker's former club. Nuno Espirito Santo made a number of changes to his team but targeted pace down the wings and got a deserved win as a result. Rich Ferraro is joined by George Edwards to discuss the view from the away end and a happy, if long, day for the Forest fans. We get a Geordie view from Jack of the Toon Under Podcast, and we also try and reflect upon what went right, and how the new Head Coach can make sure it wasn't just a flash in the pan. • Nottingham Forest 2-3 Bournemouth: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    24/12/2023 Duration: 50min

The headlines for Nuno's first game were dominated by the referee, who dropped an enormous clanger by sending off Willy Boly and then compounded it (alongside VAR) by not giving anything when Adam Smith handled the ball whilst in the area. Unfortunately the upshot is that, like last year, Forest gave up the lead at home to Bournemouth and ended up on the losing team. Steven Toplis hosts the discussion with Baz and Tom Newton, with the Reds' lack of defensive solidity and the goalkeeping conundrum as hot topics. Can ex-keeper Nuno make a difference? We also welcome Jon Sparks from Cherries Red Army with a view from the away end. • Steve Cooper sacked: 1865 Podcast Special

    19/12/2023 Duration: 55min

For our 25th podcast this season, we reflect upon the tenure of Steve Cooper, who was today sacked as Head Coach of Nottingham Forest. We discuss the highs of his time in charge, and why we loved him; we also think about the reasons why results have declined and what might have gone wrong. With Nuno Espirito Santo expected to be confirmed as the new Forest Manager, we talk about the potential reasons for his appointment, and what he might bring - we will have more on this later in the week, after his appointment is rubber-stamped. Presented by Rich Ferraro, with a panel of Steven Toplis, Maradona of the Midlands, Tom Newton and Baz, with Ellie, Adam and Producer Romeo. We'll be back with your Friday 5 before the Bournemouth match report Subscribe to 1865 via your podcast provider, and please leave a review, as it helps other Forest supporters find our content: Apple - Spotify - YouTube. Join us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Threads or TikTok. 1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is part of the Sports Social

  • Nottingham Forest 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    16/12/2023 Duration: 51min

Despite a creditable performance, it was another home defeat for the Reds as they lacked quality in both boxes. Richarlison scored in first half stoppage time before Dejan Kulusevski embarrassed Matt Turner to double the lead. Yves Bissouma's red card could have offered Forest a lifeline, but Harry Toffolo and Neco Williams were unfortunate to be denied by visiting keeper Vicario. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz to discuss the game, with a view from the away end by JP from The Cheese Room Podcast. As well as discussing the game, we have to talk about the elephant in the room - relegation is now a plausible threat and the Head Coach's position looks increasingly precarious with each week without a win. We welcome our newshound Jamie Martin to the podcast with the latest roundup, and Rich Ferraro is joined by Tom Newton and George Edwards to discuss: Steve Cooper stays (for the time being, at least) Evangelos Marinakis resigns (from the Greek Super League) Harry Toffolo, Cheikh Kouyate and Morgan Gibbs-White praise the Head Coach Simon Rusk appointed set-piece coach Omar Richards back in training We'll be back tomorrow with a report on tonight's big game at the City Ground, as the Reds take on Tottenham in the Premier League. • Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    11/12/2023 Duration: 53min

Steve Cooper went for seven first team changes to stop the rot, and to an extent it worked as the Reds showed a better level of performance and effort to gain a point - and it could have been three as Harry Toffolo should have added to his first-half header which would surely have seen Forest get the win. Steven Toplis is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a game which saw Cooper go back to basics, with the fans once again showing their love for the Head Coach. Rich Ferraro also chips in with his views of the pragmatic approach, and we get a view from Molineux from Dave of the Talking Wolves Podcast. • Fulham 5-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    08/12/2023 Duration: 44min

It was nothing short of a disaster at Craven Cottage, as Forest produced arguably the worst performance of Steve Cooper's tenure, leaving the Head Coach looking nervously over his shoulder. Two goals each from Alex Iwobi and the Ghost of Raul Jimenez, plus a closer from Forest-supporting Tom Cairney, frankly embarrassed the Reds on a night with no redeeming features. George Edwards and Steven Toplis share their thoughts after a deep breath and a night's sleep. What does this display tell us about the commitment of the players? Do the Forest supporters really back Steve Cooper? And was the gaffer's apologetic wave at the end an acknowledgment that the end is nigh? • Nottingham Forest 0-1 Everton: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    04/12/2023 Duration: 57min

Losing one home match feels unlucky, losing two in a row feels like something else. The Reds were deservedly defeated in a game where the first goal was clearly going to be important, and after the referee and VAR didn't spot a clear penalty on Ryan Yates, Dwight McNeil made the breakthrough. Rich Ferraro is joined by Maradona of the Midlands and Adam to discuss a day when nothing really worked for Forest, and the fans booed the team off on 90 minutes, with some accusing the players of a lack of desire, and the gaffer of a lack of ideas. The view from the opposition comes from Mike Richards from The Unholy Trinity Podcast. • Nottingham Forest 2-3 Brighton: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    27/11/2023 Duration: 41min

Forest suffered a rare home defeat, but in reality Brighton were the better team. Had it not been for a penalty and an, ahem, interesting red card for visiting skipper Lewis Dunk, the Reds would probably have been dead and buried. As it is, they will rue missed chances, with both Morgan Gibbs-White and Ryan Yates wishing they had done better. Steven and Baz discuss the game, the team selection and the refereeing performance which dominated the post-match discussion; it's fair to say that both sides were pretty unhappy with the performance of Anthony Taylor. We'll be back for the must-win home match against Everton. 20/11/2023 Duration: 56min

November's Forest Ramble discussion is here! This month, Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz, Tom and Steven to cover:  Everton receive a points deduction; what does this mean for the Premier League? Steve Cooper’s game plan - is the Reds’ success contingent upon listening to the gaffer? What will success look like for Forest this season? As usual, we will also hear the opinions of you, the listeners, we’ll have our monthly quiz and Jeremy Davies will be along with his latest Sketch. We will also have a quick Her Game Too update from Ellie Molloson, and Tom and the Maradona of the Midlands have an argument about Martin O'Neill. • West Ham 3-2 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    13/11/2023 Duration: 44min

West Ham topped and tailed this game with soft goals which gave the hosts all three points. Inbetween, Taiwo Awoniyi and Antony Elanga had equalised, then put the Reds in front, before individual mistakes put the Hammers in control and left Steve Cooper desperately frustrated. Rich is joined by George who is fresh back from the London Stadium, to discuss the match, the atmosphere and game management. We also hear from Will of We Are West Ham with the opposition view, and the thoughts of you, the Forest fans. We'll be back in the international break to review our progress. • Nottingham Forest 2-0 Aston Villa: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    07/11/2023 Duration: 35min

It was back to winning ways for Steve Cooper's Reds as goals from Ola Aina and Orel Mangala led to a welcome three points after what felt like a long time without a victory. The Head Coach and his players got most things right on the day, and although Villa probably weren't at their best, a combination of team and fans kept them at bay. Steven Toplis and Ellie Molloson discuss the game, the early goals and the return of a feelgood factor. We also hear from Neil from For The Love Of Paul McGrath with a fair assessment from the away end, and we have a few words for Caiden Storry, the young man who took on the immense responsibility of playing The Last Post in front of 30,000 fans and a worldwide TV audience - well done to Caiden, the fans and players and coaching staff. • Liverpool 3-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    31/10/2023 Duration: 39min

The sporting weekend was overshadowed by the sudden and tragic death of Panthers forward Adam Johnson, and all of us here at 1865 send our condolences to Adam's nearest and dearest. On the pitch, Forest were very much second best and were never in danger of getting their first win at Anfield since 1969. It started badly when Steve Cooper confirmed that Chris Wood would be injured for a few weeks, just as he was coming into form, and Forest had no recognised attackers. Two goals in four minutes put the Reds behind, with a comedy third conceded as Matt Turner lost his head. Steven Toplis is joined by Tom Newton to review the match, with thoughts on Forest's form and Steve Cooper; we also hear from Neil Atkinson from The Anfield Wrap, sharing his views on the game and an optimistic prognosis for Forest's prospects. • Nottingham Forest 2-2 Luton Town: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    23/10/2023 Duration: 59min

It was a disppointing outcome following a promising performance. The headlines will show that Chris Wood scored two goals before two late efforts from Luton saw them take a share of the spoils. However, Forest had enough chances to put the match to bed before then, and the fans will feel that a combination of individual mistakes and poor substitutions cost them the win. Steven is joined by Adam to discuss the match, with emotions running high as it feels like a while since the Reds have had a win. We also hear from Baz with his considered thoughts on the game and get a view from the away end by Luton fan Ryan. • Crystal Palace 0-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    09/10/2023 Duration: 23min

It ended up honours even in a game that was last on Match of the Day, but Forest will be a bit disappointed not to have taken all three points after creating the better chances. Harry Toffolo had an effort from distance, before Morgan Gibbs-White hit the post, and Murillo almost scored a memorable goal with a mazy dribble and shot that was saved by the keeper. In the second half, Gonzalo Montiel was unlucky with two scissor kicks, but on the other hand, Jean-Philippe Mateta should really have scored and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi had his effort blocked by Toffolo. Baz is joined by George Edwards, fresh back from Selhurst Park, to discuss the action and the evolution of Forest's style of play, and to discuss how the new squad is shaping up - after a relegation battle last season, are Forest starting to establish themselves in the Premier League? • Nottingham Forest 1-1 Brentford: The 1865 Premier League Match Report

    03/10/2023 Duration: 40min

The headlines will show that ten man Forest came back to rescue a point, but really the Reds were the better team in the first thirty minutes and should have capitalised. As it was, after Moussa Niakhate's red card, the Bees took the lead with a soft goal - both the Forest defence and Matt Turner should have done better. Luckily, Brentford keeper Flekken had his own moment just a few minutes later, as Nico Dominguez diverted Harry Toffolo's cross to equalise. Baz and Tom Newton discuss the game, the talking points and which team got the rub of the green on a bad weekend for Premier League officials and VAR. We also hear from Billy The Bee with a view from the away end. We'll be back after the Palace match.
