  • Kristina Russell On Consultations & Creating Bespoke Colour Journeys

    16/11/2020 Duration: 46min

[187] It's safe to say we've come a long way since the first synthesised dye in 1863: products have evolved a great deal, and so have application techniques. Currently, you could probably list over 50 colour trends travelling back and forth across the globe, with some going viral overnight. For a first-time colour client, it's easy to think that anything is possible — after all, social media does make us feel like the sky is the limit in terms of creative colour. However, not everything is always possible, and most definitely not in one appointment. If you truly care for the result, you never just get a colour. You commit to one. That means agreeing to consultations, multiple appointments, home care, maintenance, being patient, and of course, being conscious it will require a certain budget. Featuring Kristina Russell (@colourkristina), salon owner, multiple award-winning hair colour specialist, educator, and podcaster herself, this week's episode explores what her bespoke colour journeys look like for both

  • Hellen Ward On Using KPI Data To Assess Staff Performance

    09/11/2020 Duration: 52min

[186] Assessing staff performance is often a threatening process for both managers and employees. However, when you put in place clear KPIs, agree on a plan of action, and put your staff in control of their performance, you provide an opportunity to discuss progress and make aligning employee and company goals easier. The problem with statistics isn't the data itself; it's how you interpret it. Looking at figures alone to get an unbiased picture of an employee's performance might feel logical, but in the end, it will give you the wrong overview or assessment. Numbers without context are just that: numbers. Featuring Hellen Ward (@hellenwardltd), co-founder and managing director of Richard Ward Hair & Metrospa (@richardwardhair), this week's episode dives into her approach to KPI management, interpreting data, assessing staff performance, and so much more. 02/11/2020 Duration: 40min

[185] When we talk about benchmarking, we talk about identifying opportunities for improvement within a business. On paper, that's simple enough... but what does that look like within the hair & beauty industry? Featuring Data-Driven Salon Experience speakers Joshua Howard (Vish Co-Founder & CEO) and Britni Volkman (Phorest Salon Success Manager), this week's episode dives right into the topic. Bringing to light industry experience and insights throughout, we discuss benchmarking's purpose and importance, talk about salon business metrics, solutions to major industry pain points, and so much more. As platinum sponsors of the month-long look at metrics proposed by Salon Today's Data-Driven Salon Experience, Phorest is proud to say that all sessions are now available to watch on-demand (at no cost) — click here to register! [176] Reaching the $1+ million in revenue mark in business doesn't mean everything is smooth sailing or running at its peak performance; growing pains are still very much part of the process. And while they can be challenging in the moment, overcoming them can create competitive advantage opportunities. • James Davis On Leading Through Change & Becoming A Community Linchpin

    10/08/2020 Duration: 52min

[175] When the coronavirus pandemic hit earlier this year, James Davis went back to digging deep, working 16-hour days, and thinking outside the box to figure out what he could do to keep his various business operations alive and lead positively through change and uncertainty. Enabling his salon, Clay, to financially evolve while supporting the team with a new work platform as they returned, his 'thinking outside the box' mindset also led to a village togetherness featured in national newspapers and magazines. Inspired by the "Pay It Forward" mentality and determined to give back to the very people who had contributed to his entrepreneurial success over the years, James Davis pulled together volunteers from all fields and launched Oxshott Delivery.  In this episode, hear Phorest's CEO Ronan Perceval and entrepreneur James Davis discuss recent projects, what changes both lockdown and reopening have brought to his salon, and how leading positively through change positioned him and his local businesses as comm

  • Meabh Quoirin On Consumer Trends & Insights To Shape The Industry's Future

    13/07/2020 Duration: 48min

[171] The industry is likely never to go back to the way it operated before COVID-19. As salons and spas progressively reopen, they are also shaping a new normal. Before the pandemic, people conceived of beauty experiences in four main ways: convenience, skills, pampering and an indulgent experience, and finally, a sense of connection and community, visiting the same beautician every single time and being able to talk about personal and beauty-related issues. Will that remain true for years to come? That's what companies like Foresight Factory are in the business of predicting. Featuring CEO and co-owner of Foresight Factory, Meabh Quoirin, this week's episode discusses consumer trends and insights that are changing the hair & beauty industry's foreseeable future.
