Buck Off Podcast: Biggest offseason questions Ohio State’s roster, Brian Hartline the OC, and more
27/01/2023 Duration: 01h42minOn today’s episode of “Buck Off with Christopher Renne,” I’m joined by Jordan Williams to get into our biggest questions so far this offseason for the Ohio State Buckeye football team. We start the episode with a discussion about some of the national stories that we’re not excited to see coming into the offseason and the already over zealous respect for some teams that don’t deserve it. After this we discuss the landscape of college football in the offseason. Once we get through the opening, the conversation turns to Ohio State’s roster and where our concerns lie ahead of Spring Practice. This conversation goes from least concern to most concerned back to least concerned, and no we don’t discuss the receivers here because there is no concern. After the break we get into the defensive side of the roster. This conversation starts with a discussion about why the defensive backs aren’t the biggest group of worry. We also discuss the most disappointing group over the last four years for the Buckeye defense Our las

Bucketheads: Life in basketball purgatory; Ohio State needs to play itself back to tournament contention
26/01/2023 Duration: 52minBucketheads’ is the only men’s basketball-focused podcast in the LGHL family of podcasts, co-hosts Connor Lemons and Justin Golba give the latest scoop on the Ohio State Buckeyes as well as all the other happenings in the college hoops world. ‘Bucketheads’ will be released every Thursday morning throughout the regular season. During episode 63, Connor and Justin break down Ohio State’s precarious position in both the Big Ten and the NCAA Tournament picture. At 3-6, a Big Ten title is clearly out of reach. But with only three games separating the second-place team and the 12th-place team, everything else is a crapshoot. Relatively speaking, any team can slide up or down the standings over the next six weeks and it would not be a surprise. Similarly, the Buckeyes currently sit on the right side of the NCAA Tournament bubble as a projected 11-seed, likely playing at the University of Dayton in the first four. A few wins could slide them into a better position and avoid that situation. A few more losses could dro

After starting the season 19-0, the Ohio State women's basketball suffered their first defeat of the season. Guard Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes 83-72. Following the defeat, head coach Kevin McGuff and forwards Taylor Thierry and Cotie McMahon spoke to the media. In the press conference, coach McGuff lamented the rebounding performance of the Buckeyes, with Iowa grabbing 20 more than Ohio State, the lack of competitive character for 40 minutes, the triple-double performance by Clark and struggling to stop center Monika Czinano. It's not all bad though, with three members of the Scarlet & Gray having positive performances on the evening. McGuff talks about Eboni Walker, Thierry and McMahon positively after the three had important performances. The coach also talks about using this loss as motivation and commenting on if the loss could help Oh

After every week of action, we will get you caught up on all the conference’s games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players that you should be paying attention to in the next week. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan. The NFL playoffs are in full swing! Dante and Jordan take a moment to discuss this weekend's games before getting into the Big Ten season recap. Daniel Jones and the New York Giants had a great season but they ran into the buzzsaw known as the Philadelphia Eagles. Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs past the Jaguars and Trevor Lawerence but suffered a high ankle sprain in the process. That could have lasting effects, which could mean bad news with Joe Burrow and the Bengals coming into town next week. It’s the offseason and we’re a couple of weeks removed from the season so now is the perfect time to review the sea

Ohio State is honoring the former Ohio State All-American and current guard for the Indiana Fever during Monday’s game. Adding more excitement to an already jam-packed evening. 22/01/2023 Duration: 40minThroughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. Following Ohio State’s 93-77 romp over Iowa on Saturday, we spoke to Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery, Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann, man of the hour Isaac Likekele, and leading scorer Brice Sensabaugh in the post-game press conference. McCafferey was short with his answers, mostly saying that his team was too careless with the ball and allowed themselves to get beat on the glass in the second half. He wouldn’t say how much his team did — or didn’t — prepare for Likekele, who entered the game averaging three points per contest. Likekele was the target of most questions, asking about his production that day and his thoughts on where his team stands at 3-5. He said that, although he wasn’t scoring much this season, scoring 18 points is not something that he’s never done. Finally, Holtmann spoke and talked highly of Likekele, saying he didn’t as

LGHL Uncut: Ben Johnson, Chris Holtmann, and Ohio State players discuss Minnesota’s upset win
14/01/2023 Duration: 29minThroughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. Following Ohio State’s worst regular-season loss in over six years, we spoke to Minnesota head coach Ben Johnson, Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann, plus Buckeyes Isaac Likekele and Sean McNeil in the post-game press conference. Johnson gave Ohio State credit for being a “tough, gritty team” that knows how to make tough shots. He praised his team’s play lately, and told them that if they continued to play the way they have been, the wins and losses will work themselves out. Neither Likekele or McNeil had much to say, repeatedly describing Ohio State’s mistakes as “fixable” and saying they need to get back to work on Friday to fix them. McNeil mentioned that he felt the Buckeyes didn’t play with nearly enough energy, “Like we didn’t want to be out there.” Holtmann had his shortest post-game interview of the season, by far. He said that aside fro

Buck Off Podcast: The End of Year Award Show and Tommy Eichenberg is back
13/01/2023 Duration: 02h01minOn today’s episode of “Buck Off with Christopher Renne,” I’m joined by Jordan Williams to host our end of season award show highlighting some of the best moments from the 2022 season. We start the show with a discussion about Tommy Eichenberg’s big decision to return to Ohio State and how that is beneficial for the Buckeye defense heading into year 2 of Jim Knowles’ defense. We also discuss why having a talented player returning far outweighs potential that has not been seen in game action yet. Then we get into a discussion about Kevin Warren’s decision to leave his role as Big Ten commissioner to be the president of the Chicago Bears. Our discussion dives into the impact Warren had on the Big Ten conference and why his tenure was a resounding success. After the news and notes we get into our end of season award show discussing the best and worse from 2022. In the first half we get into the worst from the 2022 Ohio State season, this includes the most painful moment and the player we will not miss who left fo

It was a bad loss both in terms of emotions and Big Ten-standings implications, but there’s still time to regroup. The guys discuss how they do this, and what needs to be done to “make up” for that loss. Then, Connor hits Justin with some “overreaction or not” statements, where Justin has to decide if the Ohio State and Big Ten-related prompts are reasonable or clear overreactions. Does Ohio State need to make a lineup change tonight? Is Indiana already dead? On a scale of one to a car warranty call, how fraudulent are the Northwestern Wildcats? They clos

09/01/2023 Duration: 10minThroughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. Following a program record-breaking 17-point second half comeback victory over the Fighting Illini, the Ohio State women’s basketball team wasn’t in the celebrating spirit. The 87-81 win had positives, but reoccurring areas to improve, highlighted after the game during media availability with head coach Kevin McGuff, guard Taylor Mikesell and forward Cotie McMahon. Coach McGuff is up first. He didn’t mince words when he discussed how the Buckeyes were embarrassing the program in front of a raucous crowd at the Schottenstein Center. Also, the key factor in what changed in the second half, the performance of McMahon and defining a favorite phrase for the coach — “competitive character.” Then, Mikesell talks about how Ohio State needs to stop needing to come back like they have this season, but taking value in learning that lesson in a win over a def

Play Like a Girl: Breaking down the Buckeyes’ breakdown
07/01/2023 Duration: 43minOn LGHL’s "Play Like a Girl" podcast, Megan Husslein and Jami Jurich welcome in friends from around the LGHL, Ohio State, and sporting worlds to talk everything from Ohio State sports to advocacy for women in sports and all the happenings in between. The Buckeyes’ football season concluded on New Year’s Eve with a 42-41 loss to Georgia in the Peach Bowl. How did the Buckeyes go from underdog to first-half confidence to second-half collapse? On this episode, Megan and Jami take a look at what went wrong in this matchup, along with TCU’s brilliant underdog win against TTUN (they know, they know — they doubted the Horned Frogs too. And they were glad to be proven wrong). The duo also look at Damar Hamlin’s tragic medical emergency in Monday Night’s NFL game, along with the NFL’s response, what to expect for Monday’s National Championship and whether TCU is a good case study for how to use the transfer portal to your advantage. LGHL Uncut: Holtmann, Painter, players on Purdue’s win over Ohio State Thursday night
06/01/2023 Duration: 34minThroughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. No. 24 Ohio State (10-4, 2-1) had a lead with under 30 seconds to go for the seconds time in the past three weeks, but came up short, falling to No. 1 Purdue 71-69 in front of a packed crowd at the Schottenstein Center. A crucial turnover followed by a dagger three-pointer from Purdue did them in and dealt Ohio State their first conference loss of the season. Following the nail-biter, we first spoke to Matt Painter, who seemed relieved more than anything. He said Ohio State losing Zed Key four minutes into the game “simply was not fair” and gave a ton of praise to the duo of Felix Okpara and Gene Brown for their defensive efforts slowing down 7-foot-4 Zach Edey. We then heard from Justice Sueing and Sensabaugh, who were short on words for the most part. Sensabaugh did his best to deflect questions that were about his personal stats and development

We move on to the biggest questions remaining after the game and where Ohio State stands in college football. This leads to us talking about what a world without Day calling plays looks like and why you should not expect too much change from what to expect offensively. After that our conversation turns to the key positions moving forward into the offseason and the most important questions surrounding the four groups we discuss. We get into the

Silver Bullets Podcast: Georgia Rewind and Postmortem
03/01/2023 Duration: 01h32minOhio State’s season is over and there were any number of tiny details Saturday night that could have changed that fact. Timeouts being given, targeting fouls being overturned, reversals of spots, and, finally, a missed field goal. For us, the bottom line is that Ohio State gave itself a chance to beat the unbeaten Georgia juggernaut and if the team only had a functional secondary, the game might have been a complete blowout victory for the Buckeyes. Ryan Day called a brilliant game, despite so many frustrating ones that had come before. C.J. Stroud not only showed a willingness to scramble to pick up every yard possible but he also demonstrated that he’s pretty great at it. Stroud made some plays with his legs that both were good in and of themselves and others that were good because they set up plays that he made with his arm. It was a tour de force performance for one of the best quarterbacks in OSU history. But we’re ultimately not happy, even though we predicted a loss by more than the one point it turned
