  • Being Real Not Perfect: An Open Conversation on Authenticity

    21/05/2016 Duration: 01h28s

"Where's that place inside you that you've learnt to hide–avoid–create strategies around and not go into?"– Emeli Paulo  We often talk about having vulnerable conversations on the Collective Potential podcast. Conversations where we take off the layers of armour to see what's underneath. Everyone has fears, insecurities, losses and pain. It's a part of being human. Taking the courage to share these with our loved ones allow us to connect and show our real authentic selves. Yet the majority of us don't from the shame of appearing weak. In today's very emotional episode, we share our real selves with our darksides included, in hope to give you permission to create spaces of vulnerability with your family and community. Our intention for this episode was to bring depression into our awareness in a way where we can understand it without stigma or shame. What is it? How can we work with it to live a fullfilled life? How can we help others going through it? We invited Emily Toner, psychologist and mindfullness practitioner to help us unpack these questions.   If you need further support call lifeline 13 11 14

    30/04/2016 Duration: 52min

With his family, Abe fled from the war in Sudan where he spent four years in an Egyptian refugee camp. He was granted asylum to Australia and in a short time he taught himself to read and write, came third in an Australian poetry competition and founded Creative Rebellion Youth: a 24 hour creative music studio to help young adults reach their dreams.  Yet, Abe insists he is not the hero of his story. He is humble, present and grounded us to focus less on our individual stories and see the bigger picture of our lives and the community we live in. He teaches us to remember the whole in a society addicted to the parts. You can find Abe on the Creative Rebellion Youth Facebook page.
