This week we made our way down to Woodstock Connecticut to talk with head brewer is Ralph Fiegel the head brewer at Taylor Brooke Brewery. Ralph is a chef by trade, and after years of home brewing on the side took the leap into professional brew in West Concord Ma. A few years later Ralph opened up a brewery at the already established Taylor Brooke Winery and the rest is history. Our guests this week started out in what many consider one of the best beer communities in the world (San Diego) and decided to open a brewery in South Dakota! South Dakota only had 3 breweries at the time. We talked with Carolyn and Jeff from Crow Peak Brewing in Spearfish SD. We learned how this Brewery has become an integral part of their community and are changing the perception of what beer is in the area. We made it to another state! This week we're in Utah talking Utah’s first brewery since prohibition to brew exclusively high alcohol content beer. Did you know Utah only allows beer to be sold in retail up to 5% ABV. Beer with higher than 5% must be sold in state-run liquor stores. After years brewing beer that they didn't love to drink at a now defunct Boston based brewery and wanting to do things their way, Barewolf Brewing was born. Jamaica Plain has a vast history in brewing, as the water from the aquifer along the Stony Brook River was some of the freshest and cleanest around; and the relatively cheap land. This made for the perfect marriage for Jamaica Plain to have nearly 24 breweries around the early 1900. Fast forward to 2021 we're talking with Turtle Swamp who is right in the middle of JP is one of the few in the area. Owners John Lincecum and Nicholas Walther want to add to the history of JP and were quoted saying “We both love Jamaica Plain, and the fact we own a brewery right in our own neighborhood means we can add to the history. But we chose to work and live here because of what JP is now — a diverse, exciting, livable community."
