It might seem strange that Trent Reznor, the founding and only consistent member of American industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, has ended up spending the latter part of his career scoring blockbuster movies like Gone Girl and The Social Network. But those more familiar with the band’s work will know that his taste for the cinematic has always been on show in his music. This month’s Naptime sees drowzee exploring the artist’s back catalogue, skipping the vocal-led heavy rock singles in favor of the instrumental album cuts which foreshadow this transition. Expect anxious ambient noise, melancholic piano motifs, pounding industrial rave and more. Tracklist: The track ‘At The Heart Of It All’ isn’t actually a Nine Inch Nails song; Aphex Twin was commissioned to do a remix, didn’t listen to the track he was supposed to remix and sent them 'At The Heart Of It All' instead, which ended up being included on 'Further Down The Spiral'. Taking its name from the record label, The Paper Air Waves show is a melting pot of music from all over the world. African funk, Scottish folk, London bass, Detroit Soul, Californian vaporwave, Asian field recordings, Thai Funk to the deepest disco and more curve balls than you can shake a totem pole at. Hosted by Paper Recordings’ Ben Davis, its a wide-eyed dig into the deepest and furthest flung corners of sound and music.
