The Doctor and Leela, having just faced down a crazy zealot with a glove for a helmet, land in a mine. Well, on a mine. Well, on a mining ship...er, mining tank? Anyway, they’re on this giant mining vessel (yes, vessel sounds good) crewed by a small team of humans (who, if we’re being honest, have some of the most wild outfits!) and a much larger team of robots. However, under the surface (it’s a mine gag...the gag is also mine), foul play is afoot as humans start dying off left and right. But who is behind these, ahem, Bad Robots? Can the Doctor and Leela save the day before everyone is marked by the bicycle reflectors of doom?

On Podcastica, we're quickly realizing that the Second Doctor's era contains some of the most ambitious storytelling in all of Doctor Who's history! No, you haven't tumbled into the movie The Lighthouse. It's Horror of Fang Rock! This 4th Doctor adventure is full of excellent Leela moments, a team of lighthouse keepers, a mysterious meteor crashing into the ocean, a creepy fog, a crashed boat of snooty types, one excellent slap, and only two characters make it to the end of the story! Horror of Fang Rock is essentially a British murder mystery masquerading as Doctor Who. Join us as we punt the Rutan back down the stairs over and over again!

Two hours north of Las Vegas, in the high desert of what we like to call the Great American Southwest, lies a base that went unacknowledged for decades. That secrecy, combined with rumors, theories, and legends, created the myth that we know as Area 51. Whether it’s merely a CIA base that developed aircraft like the U-2 and SR-71 or whether we’re to believe the stories of Bob Lazar and others that alien technology is being reverse engineered there, Area 51 became a fixture in pop culture during the late 80s and early 90s. In the mid-90s, filmmaker Roger Mexico and his friend Michael Brown captured a slice of UFO culture that feels almost quaint today. More than just a snapshot of believers and contactees, Alien Highway also preserves for us views of Area 51 that can no longer be accessed by the public because of government land grabs. This month, we headed off the main road and driving up to the gates of Area 51 with a look at Alien Highway and a look back at UFO culture in the 90s.
