Are You Movie Mad?

As Halloween Kills prepares to take a stab at the big screen, Johnny takes Andrew back to Haddonfield for the follow-up to the original Halloween movie. Everyone knows the big reveal, but what else is there waiting for them? What are their takes on the franchise, compared to other slasher features, and working out the timelines of this particular set of movies?

After a break, Andrew and Johnny are back to talk Season 3 Episode 3 of Nashville, with Juliette’s Camera test, Luke and Deacon’s Hollywood rivalry, Maddie and Scarlett at a party and, of course, Teddy Conrad, Mayor of Nashville and Blockbuster Member. We create several Marvel-style Nashville What If? Episodes too!

October is, of course, the spookiest month, Halloween Kills month itself, and Johnny has once more taken the reins to show Andrew a series of scary motion pictures. We begin with the Matthew Lillard-starring ‘I remember this from back at school’ movie 13 Ghosts, where Johnny reads descriptions for each of the Ectocean’s gang, and the duo discuss No Time To Die, a film they had definitely watched before recording.

Johnny is prepping for a holiday to Ireland, escaping the Bluebird and leaving it in the grasp of downtrodden Andrew, but before that comes to pass it’s time to watch Season 3 Episode 2 of Nashville. This week’s episode introduces us to Nadine, Drawdrobes and the mean bean team of Benton Media, whilst the Conrad/Clayborne/James/Hampton clan really spend time bonding and bonding and bonding.

Johnny is forced back into the fantasy lore of Russian trilogy-turned-two-film-franchise Nochnoy Dozor, and he’s being at his best behaviour, but will he last the 2 hour follow-up? Andrew discusses the death of cinema, at least as he waves goodbye to a Cineworld Unlimited card, and the Comic Con hunt for a DVD of Day Watch in 2006.

Season 3 of Nashville is here, and in the aftermath of Will Lexington’s coming out, Deacon AND Luke Wheeler’s proposals to Rayna James, and Juliette telling Avery about her affair with Jeff Fordham, Johnny and Andrew tackle the drama, the music and the epic roadtrip that commences this run of the TV show.

Andrew takes the reigns of the nostalgia-buster-fantasy-action programming this week, with Timur Bekmambetov’s weird Russian piece of cinema. Will it hold up? Probably not. Will Disney+ offer kinetic subtitles? Of course not. What will be left of hope when the film comes to an unthrilling climax?

Ending the season in true BATB fashion, Johnny takes Andrew through the second season’s second soundtrack release. Join the two as they go track-by-track through the highs, lows and mids of Nashville’s rocking, harmonising music.

It’s EPISODE 250 and Johnny’s dream from 150 episodes ago is finally coming true. Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod is on the podcast as we watch the extended, and only-available, cut of Highlander’s infamous sequel. Will Andrew take to a second film to a franchise he doesn’t care for? Will Johnny’s nostalgia be busted by a new look and a different edit? Will Queen create a whole new soundtrack using Christopher Lambert’s chuckle? What kind of party would it be without Michael Ironside anyway? Come for the sword fighting, stay forever because you’re an immortal human or alien or something.

It’s the Season 2 finale and the air-con is busted backstage, so Andrew and Johnny melt and sweat whilst touching on Livin’ With Lex ‘n’ Layla, Deacon’s recovery concert, Jeff Fordham’s bean-counting relationship, Rayna’s album release and, of course, Why Is Gunnar Scott? What will happen in the dramatic, climactic finale of this second run of the show?

Don’t you want to go home? Well, sports month goes home in Sandman fashion, as we swing for the hockey-to-golf-player Adam Sandler classic, Johnny hasn’t gone into the 90s era of Sandler and Andrew is excited to revisit his youth with this one. The debate of Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler rages on, who will win?

Gunnar saw Juliett and Jeff Fordham the bean-counter from Harvard leave a screening room to appear in their own NC-17-rated movie, and Andrew is determined to list a whole bunch of other films they could have been in instead, whilst Johnny runs down an episode with Former First Lady Michelle Obama, the troops and Will Lexington’s new reality show.

Kevin Costner hears a voice and turns his farm into a baseball diamond. You hear voices and listen to a podcast about Kevin Costner doing this. Normal behaviour. If you listen, he will come.

Oh dear, Scarlett’s had a bit of a breakdown, it’s almost like she knew what 2021 would be like and experienced it in 2014. Andrew and Johnny talk through her recovery, the further adventures of Gunnar Scott’s ascent in the financial world, and a few songs get a talking to for good measure.

We’re getting psyched out by a multi-sport as we approach the release of the new Space Jam movie, and find ways to bring Sports Month in to some kind of relevance. Johnny has seen this film, but remembers nothing. Andrew has seen this film a lot, but doesn’t know how much holds up anymore. What will come of the players this week?

Things start to get out of hand on tour when Scarlett’s mother stops by, whilst the Teddy/Rayna/Deacon situation causes Nashville to enlist an EGOT winner, what a coup! Andrew and Johnny discuss Gunnar’s royalty cheque, and whether he even deserves any kind of money for his art.

It’s the first week of July, and plans change fast. Sports are all intersecting out in the world, so the podcast is turning its eye to the athletic achievements out there, starting with a Tom Cruise drama about a money man turned humanist, and his grab-bag of friends. Who doesn’t want to watch some Cameron Crowe right now as the world continues to dissolve around us?

What happens when a new single release is a flop, a big engagement announcement is questionably fast and two different fathers feud over how to parent their daughter? Well, you got yourself an episode of Nashville Season 2! That’s right, we’re talking Will Lexington going straight, Deacon versus Teddy and a side amount of Scarlett and Avery doing some good ol’ fashioned songwriting, Nashville style!

The Fast Saga is continuing in two strands, you can now enjoy F9 in the cinema, but this podcast is reuniting two titans, Andrew and Johnny, to deal with one last mission: Talking spin-offs. How many pages of notes can be written on this adventure? Who gets the best insults? Will special guest Sarah delve into the madness of the family timeline, or will sense finally prevail? Nothing will be revealed!

Musical Month 2021 ends with Johnny’s defying return to the Phantomverse, forcing Andrew to sit through another Lloyd Webber musical, but hark there’s The Phantom Of The Podcast coming in to take over matters. Will we survive the show intact? Will music ever be the same again? Will Love ever Die? NEVER!
