When I heard on the radio that I could apply to speak one of the largest TEDx events in the world, I was prepared. After a long process, an audition and selection process, I was chosen to join an A list of experts on a big stage in front of 1,000+ people. While I still get really nervous, people now say… “Jim’s just good at publ

By the time I left the office at the end of the day, everything was complete. Why? Why did I get…. three times more done on this particular day then on any other day? Because I had to. When you have to do something, you do it. The reason most people don’t exercise enough is because they dont have to. The excuse is  “I don’t have time” but if you get a phone call from the school and you have to pick up your

  • Sudden Success #2: Short and Powerful Episode on Finding Your Unfair Advantage

    23/03/2016 Duration: 05min

We are lured into believing that success comes to people by pure luck… good genes, a connected parent, being in the right place at the right time. Sure, there are people who get lucky. We’re lured into looking at them as if luck is the only way to be successful. But those cases are one in a million. In the case of the lottery-- like the Powerball-- it’s more like one in hundreds of millions. It’s easier to believe in luck than to believe the truth. It’s easier to believe that we can be successful from luck than it is to believe that it came from hard work and struggle. That it came after many, many failures and nights laying in bed riddled with self-doubt. We can all find reasons why the other guy had it made, had an easier path or had more luck. Like when Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg, won the NCAA division I wrestling championship. When he first started wrestling, everyone say, “Poor Anthony. He’ll never win a match. He’s only got one leg.” Years later-- after more failures than most of us have
