From start to finish, Graeme Cocks was involved in building the replica of the VOC ship De Duyfken in Fremantle (WA), and the adventures that followed. Now the ship has moved to Sydney, and the Duyfken Foundation no longer exists, it was the perfect time for Graeme to write a book. Ype de Bruin was a key figure in the Dutch community in Melbourne and Victoria; he was one of the founders of the Dutch Australian Heritage Centre, president of the Dutch Association in Victoria for many years and the first chairman of DutchCare. His efforts did not go unnoticed as he was honored with both a Dutch Order of Orange-Nassau (1988) and an Order of Australia Medal (1998). On June 13, Ype passed away in Queensland, at the age of 89. Right across central Australia in a solar-powered car. That's what the World Solar Challenge, a 3000 kilometre race from Darwin to Adelaide, is about. Teams from around the world participate in the biannual competition, which in the past, has often been won by teams from the Netherlands. This year, Top Dutch Solar Racing from Groningen hopes to claim victory with their Green Thunder vehicle. Willem Nijholt died in his sleep at the age of 88. Nijholt was a multi-talent and could sing, dance and act. He has appeared in programs for both children and adults.
