Ype de Bruin was a key figure in the Dutch community in Melbourne and Victoria; he was one of the founders of the Dutch Australian Heritage Centre, president of the Dutch Association in Victoria for many years and the first chairman of DutchCare. His efforts did not go unnoticed as he was honored with both a Dutch Order of Orange-Nassau (1988) and an Order of Australia Medal (1998). On June 13, Ype passed away in Queensland, at the age of 89.
