Improv Cabaret: Behind The Scenes

I changed my tech time to 5pm from 4pm, Details about Charleston, One friend thought Miami was "not my best performance" and another thought it was good, I let the tech mess of Miami throw me during the performance, Lesson learned: when you blame yourself you feel better than when you blame others, 43folders.com, when I get important emails I ignore them, one thousand emails in my inbox, so much opportunity out there and you want to do it all, setting expectations for festivals: no one will know who I am, no one will buy tickets, but I will learn from the experiences of organizing travel and working with an almost-employee. I need to focus on "What am I going to learn from this?" as opposed to focusing on "No one will be in the audience for my shows." I left my show outfit in the hotel in Miami. After watching the video from Miami I saw the show was not as good as I thought it was, very dissappointed, bought camera-bought tapes-charged battery (almost didn't have enough charge), the lighting was horroble so the tape bleaches my face out, finished Robyn's family's video from SAK while waiting at a Universal open call audition, transfered all the extra video off my laptop onto my hard drive so I couls start editing the Miami video, Andrew from Rocketboom inspires me to hook my laptop up to my camera while I am filming, added "imakepodcasts.com" to the beginning of the Miami clip, added graphics during thedark part of the video at the beginning, waste of time because i don't think the show is very good, good to at least have it online in case I need it later, I have to fly Anthony to Dirty South, complaining about Dirty South costs, my dvd idea, went to Orlando Creatives meeting

Even sicker, driving to SAK for shows so Robyn's friends could see me perform, making coffee and debating on going to Dirty South or not, wish I could play the piano, putting the video together

I am sick but am driving to Sak to play for Robyn, Miami went well, the show is recorded on my laptop and video camera, sound check was not smooth in Miami, show was good, description of hotel in Miami, I left my clothes in the closet.

A fabulous rehearsal the night before we perform in Miami. Simple story, good songs, and a grand finale ending in a gospel number. Complete relief. Things that got us there: we've been rehearsing, I remembered my "diva" character and used it in the rehearsal, keep chugging through a song and don't give up. Someone called me and I ended the podcast.

Bad news: two things I can't talk about, a bad rehearsal and I am getting sick. I will possibly not go to Miami because of all this. Musically, the songs are all sounding the same. I have to be careful about what I put on my blog and podcast. This is the third try at recording a "pc" podcast.

Rehearsal lesson: I need my own space.

Phone interview for a Charleston newspaper. Went really well. I recorded it (with permission) so I will have it on this feed at some point. Shopping for shoes, shirt and belt for show. Got pants pressed. Ran errands like crazy today.

12-23-06: February improv workshops 99.9% set up, I like Fiely's myspace page, getting the Studio theater space story, the audience at improv festivals is apparently...other improvisors, James and Krisha are coming to see me and the show in Charleston, did not get into Seattle festival, 2 new youtube video songs

12-15-06: Scheduling out of town gigs is hard without Jim, the first time I perform this show out of Orlando will be with a new accompanist, reason for traveling: reviews and experience, Frigid Fringe is first come first serve and I didn't get that, United Arts grant, I'm teaching musical improv workshops in February 2007, I order at Taco Bell, rewrite of Charleston website mention of the show, made photo for show for Miami website, do I send a press release about Miami so soon after sending one out about Charleston?, I have a crapload of stuff but no job to show for it

12-7-06: United Arts grant completed and sent in, making a dvd is boring, Charleston Comedy Festival accepts me, Jim is not available for Charleston, finding an accompanist in the month of December, I did a press release about Charleston, improvcabaret.com

I brought my cell phone into an audition. They had me improvise a monologue about Xmas in Egypt.

I have a booker now! She's responsible for submitting for improv festivals, fringe festivals and cabaret/theaters once a week. Pianist search is complete and now we have to meet. Having the booker will help me focus on my podcasting with Creativitity.com.

Miami Improv Festival app is in the mail and it's pretty. The video is on my computer. Signed up for Unemployment.

This is not easy

I recorded myself singing kareoke last night on my cell and made a little show out of it.
