Paul gives us an idea of what a church service should be like. Everyone coming to give and everyone being built up.

Paul tells us why we should not speak in tongues in a public service. Prophecy convicts and tells an unbeliever to account for their sins.

In these verses Paul gives us some instruction for the church in regards to validity of speaking in tongues. Paul tells the Corinthians to grow up.

In these verses Paul continues his instruction of speaking in tongues and praying in tongues.

Paul talks again about speaking in tongues and compares it to a person not knowing a language. A Barbarians is a unlearned person.

Paul asks three questions in these verses. They all pertain to speaking in tongues. A instrument without distinct tone, a bulge used in warfare, and unclear speech.

Paul lists four things here that bring profit to the church, revelation, knowledge, prophecy, and teaching. Every church should have these four elements to profit or build up the people.

The person who speaks in tongues edifies himself. The one who prophecies edifies the church except when there is interpretation of tongues. Then both of these gifts edify the church.

Paul compares the gift of speaking in tongues with the gift of prophecy. When a man speaks in tongues he speaks to God. When a person prophesies he speak to men. Prophesy is for edification, exhortation and consolation.

Hotly pursue after love and earnestly desire the gifts of the Spirit. This combination will change a person's life.

Faith and hope are temporary but love last eternally. It is the greatest most long lasting of the three.

Paul gives us an analogy of a child and man. He tells us that as a child we speak and think like a child but when we become a man things change. At this time we see everything through a mirror but then, when we get to heaven, we will see Him face to face and we will know Him and everything else fully.

Everything that we do now is partial. But when the perfect comes, that will all change. Who or what is the perfect? We answer that in today’s devotion.

Love never passes away. It never leaves. Everything else will pass away and cease, including prophecy, tongues and knowledge.

Four things that love does. It covers up all things in silence, it believes the best in all things. It expects the best the in all things. It endures and does not quit.
