We are seeing an ever-increasing burden of chronic disease, primarily driven by our food and food system. This is perpetuated by agricultural, food and health care policies that dont support health. We need to rethink disease and reimagine a food system and a health care system the protects health, unburdens the economy from the weight of obesity and chronic disease, protects the environment, helps reverse climate change and creates a nation of healthy children and citizens. This podcast is a place for deep conversations about the critical issues of our time in the space of health, wellness, food and politics. New episodes are released every Wednesday morning. • Why Success Is Not What We Think It Is with Gwyneth Paltrow

    04/08/2021 Duration: 01h02min

Why Success Is Not What We Think It Is | This episode is brought to you by Paleovalley, BiOptimizers, and Uqora One thing COVID taught me, albeit the hardest way possible, was to slow down. I used to be hopping on a plane once or twice a week with a booked schedule daily. It was fun and sometimes exhilarating, but also exhausting. After this last year, I’ve learned to appreciate how to go through life more slowly and mindfully, appreciating small moments like pouring a good cup of coffee or the way the light floods through my window. On today’s episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy, I enjoyed sitting down with my good friend Gwyneth Paltrow, who can relate to hitting pause on the chaos of life to redefine joy and health.  Oscar®-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow is also a bestselling cookbook author, singer, and entrepreneur. In 2008, Paltrow founded goop from her kitchen table. goop has grown into a lifestyle brand devoted to helping women make their own choices count in the various facets of their lives—from style,

  • How To Prevent And Reverse Fatty Liver Disease with Functional Medicine with Dr. Elizabeth Boham

How To Prevent And Reverse Fatty Liver Disease with Functional Medicine | This episode is sponsored by Rupa Health and Athletic Greens Having a healthy liver is a vital component to combating the toxic junk and chemicals in our environment. A healthy liver means your body stays healthy, you don’t get sick, and you maintain plenty of energy. Unfortunately however, 90 million Americans—and a growing number of individuals worldwide—have what is called fatty liver disease, which literally means your liver fills with fat. This then paves the path for chronic disease and inflammation. But the good news is that fatty liver can be easily treated and reversed with some basic dietary and lifestyle changes. In this episode, Dr. Hyman speaks with Dr. Elizabeth Boham to discuss how our high-starch and high-sugar diets are largely responsible for driving fatty liver disease, how to know if you have a fatty liver, and how they work with patients to prevent and reverse it. Elizabeth Boham is a physician and nutritionist who

  • Four Questions To Free You From Suffering with Byron Katie

    28/07/2021 Duration: 01h22min

Four Questions To Free You From Suffering | This episode is brought to you by Primal Kitchen, BiOptimizers, and Cozy Earth Suffering is part of the human condition. We create our own stories and believe them, however painful and untrue they may be. But it doesn’t have to be this way! We can find freedom from emotional, mental, and physical pain when we take the time to be quiet and ask some simple yet life-changing questions. I studied Buddhism for a long time and have always been interested in self-exploration. My guest on today’s episode, Byron Katie, has created a powerful shortcut to the process of unpacking and slowing down the mental processes that cause suffering, and her work has been one of my greatest tools for personal inquisition and growth.  In 1986, at the bottom of a ten-year spiral into depression and self-loathing, Byron Katie woke up one morning in a state of joy. She realized that when she believed her stressful thoughts, she suffered, but that when she questioned them, she didn’t suffer, a

  • How Eating An Anti-Inflammatory Diet Is Key To Regaining Your Health

    23/07/2021 Duration: 21min

How Eating An Anti-Inflammatory Diet Is Key To Regaining Your Health | This episode is brought to you by InsideTracker Inflammation is part of the body’s natural defense system and can be a good thing in balance. However, when your immune system shifts out of balance, inflammation can run rampant—causing a chronic, smoldering fire inside your body that contributes to disease, weight gain, and more. What we eat is one of the biggest levers we have when it comes to driving or reducing inflammation. Industrial food drives inflammation, oxidative stress, hormone and neurotransmitter imbalances, overloads your detoxification system, depletes your energy, damages your microbiome, and changes your gene expression to turn on disease-causing genes. Real whole nutrient and phytonutrient-rich food does the opposite. It turns off inflammation, increases antioxidant systems, balances hormones and brain chemistry, boosts detoxification, increases energy, optimizes your microbiome, and turns on disease-preventing, health-pr

Meat or Plants: Which is Better for Reversing Climate Change? | This episode is brought to you by Thrive Market, Athletic Greens, and Rupa Health Using the lens of Functional Medicine, we know we can’t blame just one part of the body for disease or dysfunction. The same goes for agriculture and climate change. We can’t just blame cows and call it a day. It’s a complex issue that deserves a comprehensive plan of action. Regenerative agriculture recognizes the essential role of grazing animals in an ecosystem to create stronger soils, healthier crops, and produce better meat. On today’s episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy, I sit down with Nicolette Hahn Niman to explore where we’ve gone wrong when it comes to raising meat, some of the biggest areas to focus on for a positive climate impact, and so much more. • How The Intelligence Of Plants and Animals Can Help Us Reclaim Our Health with Fred Provenza

    14/07/2021 Duration: 02h02min

How The Intelligence Of Plants and Animals Can Help Us Reclaim Our Health | This episode is brought to you by Joovv, BiOptimizers, and Primal Kitchen If we take the time to be quiet, still, and curious, there’s an immeasurable amount of knowledge to be gained from our natural surroundings. In watching grazing animals and their food choices, we see they know how to personalize their nutritional intake to eat plants that match their exact needs. Though many of us have lost our innate wisdom to eat intuitively, upping our intake of phytochemicals and reducing processed foods means we can recalibrate our cravings to lean towards what we truly need. Vitamins and minerals often get most of the attention when it comes to eating for nutrient density, but phytochemicals are the real hidden talent for optimizing plant, animal, and human health. Unfortunately, modern agriculture has actually damaged the phytochemical richness of our food, by breeding for yield, appearance, and hardiness. I enjoyed sitting down with Fred

    12/07/2021 Duration: 51min

Prevent And Reverse Heart Disease Using Functional Medicine | This episode is sponsored by ButcherBox and RupaHealth Research shows that adhering to four simple behaviors can prevent 80% of heart disease. They are: not smoking, exercising 3.5 hours a week, eating a healthy diet, and maintaining a healthy weight. Unfortunately, fewer than 3% of Americans meet this criteria. And while traditional medicine relies mainly on medication to treat and prevent heart disease, we know that the way you eat, how much you exercise, how you manage stress, and minimizing your exposure to environmental toxins can all be much more effective levers for treating and reducing the risk of heart disease. In this episode, Dr. Hyman sits down with Dr. Cindy Geyer to discuss the Functional Medicine approach to treating heart disease. They dive into the root causes of inflammation, the role of cholesterol, insulin, and gut health in driving heart disease, and much more. • How to Rewire Your Brain For Sleep with Dr. Andrew Huberman

    07/07/2021 Duration: 01h38min

How to Rewire Your Brain For Sleep | This episode is brought to you by Athletic Greens, BiOptimizers, and Cozy Earth When I was in medical school, they taught us we can’t regenerate brain cells. If you stayed up too late studying or did drugs, you’d lose precious connections and that was that. Now, luckily, we know that isn’t true. There are multiple ways to encourage the plasticity of the brain at any age, to enhance everything from sleep to learning. Most people don’t realize that sleep is a keystone of health. When we’re sleep-deprived, it’s really hard to eat well or to have the energy to exercise. It’s hard to think straight. It’s even hard to stay in a good mood or have a positive outlook on life. Understanding the way the brain and our neurotransmitters work means we can hack our sleep to not just feel amazing but to level up our focus, skills, and knowledge.    Today on The Doctor’s Farmacy, I talk to Dr. Andrew Huberman about the body-brain connection and how small actions can have huge payoffs for o

    05/07/2021 Duration: 41min

Are Parasites Driving Your Autoimmune Or Gut Issues? | This episode is sponsored by Thrive Market and Rupa Health You may be surprised to learn that having a parasite, in and of itself, is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, our gut microbiome is made up of more than 500 different species of microbes, including various types of bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses. Some of them help us, but others are harmful. Parasitic infection can result in an individual experiencing a range of symptoms from digestive issues to muscle ache, joint pain, skin rashes, and more; it can also signal issues with a weakened immune system. In this episode, Dr. Hyman sits down with Dr. George Papanicolaou to discuss how parasites can influence our overall health, and why they sometimes trigger autoimmune disease, gut imbalance, and much more. George Papanicolaou is a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and is Board Certified in Family Medicine from Abington Memorial Hospital. He is also an Institute for

  • The Harmful Effects Of Weedkiller (Glyphosate) On Our Health And Our Future with Stephanie Seneff

    30/06/2021 Duration: 58min

The Harmful Effects of Weedkiller (Glyphosate) On Our Health And Our Future | This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, BiOptimizers, and TrueDark The statistics on glyphosate, the world’s most commonly used pesticide, are pretty grim. Billions of pounds have been applied globally since the 70s. In the US, though we’re only 4% of the world’s population, we use 20% of the world’s supply annually. Then, we wonder why our rates of chronic disease are so much higher than other countries. The evidence against the use of glyphosate keeps mounting, yet it’s still legally drenching our food supply. I try to be as good as I can about eating organic, high-quality food, and my glyphosate test revealed I was still in the 50th percentile. Studies have linked glyphosate to cancer, endocrine disruption, infertility, immune dysfunction, liver and kidney damage, and disruption of the microbiome. And not only is glyphosate harming human health and the health of our future generations, it’s also destroying our ecosystems.
