  • 123 - The Haunting of Julia (with Sam Zimmerman)

    22/10/2020 Duration: 01h05min

As horror fans, the arrival of Shudder in 2015 came as a blessing to us all. It's made for us, the fans, by fans of the genre and we love it here. (We haven't been paid to say that either) With that in mind, onto EPISODE 123 then... This week, we are absolutely delighted to be joined by the Director of Programming at SHUDDER... It's SAM ZIMMERMAN! The film? THE HAUNTING OF JULIA!  Based on the novel Julia by Peter Straub and also known as FULL CIRCLE, The Haunting of Julia, while by no means a bad film is certainly one that is under-seen and in need of a little love and new eyes upon it.  Directed by Richard Loncraine and starring Rosemary's Baby's Mia Farrow, 2001: A Space Odyssey's Keir Dullea and national treasure Tom Conti, this is an effective and surprisingly dark little chiller. It's not the easiest film to find, certainly in the UK, but there are various versions flying around on YouTube.  The synopsis is as follows:  Magnus (Keir Dullea) and Julia Lofting (Mia Farrow) have a happy marria

  • Minisode 124 - Pazuzu, Pazuzu, Pazuzu

    18/10/2020 Duration: 39min

But that's for later!  For now, MINISODE 124 is here!  Topics this week include Brandon Cronenberg's blistering and brilliant POSSESSOR, which screened this week as part of London Film Festival online, the second 2 instalments of Amazon Prime's WELCOME TO THE BLUMHOUSE, namely EVIL EYE and NOCTURNE...and as the 90's side-quest nears its end, Mitch checks out FEAR! Also, there's another instalment of MITCH'S PITCHES!  Due to his well documented ignorance towards films, Mitch is shown a film poster with all titles, taglines etc removed and tasked with attempting to decipher the plot. Will it go well? The poster image can be seen below... We also announce the film and guest for this week's main episode.  In addition to all this, we dig into your posts and messages in the Feedback section and tell you what you should be watching as we look at what's arriving on stream

  • 122 - The Exorcist 2: The Heretic (with Dean Kapsalis)

    15/10/2020 Duration: 01h08min

Well, October is now in full swing and we have to say that the next few weeks are looking BRIGHT. This spooky season might be a little different to Octobers past but rest assured that we are still here, bringing it with the quality guests and this, EPISODE 122, is no exception! This week, we are absolutely delighted to be joined by the Writer/Director of THE SWERVE, the absolutely devastating closing film from August's digital edition of Frightfest...  It's DEAN KAPSALIS! The film? THE EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC!  Widely considered one of the worst sequels/films of all time, especially when its predecessor is one of the most beloved films of all time, it's safe to say that the cards are stacked pretty heavily against THE EXORCIST 2. Directed by Deliverance director John Boorman and starring a returning Linda Blair as Regan alongside acting heavyweights Richard Burton and Louise Fletcher, this is a weird one, for sure.  But is it really deserving of all the hate? Is it REALLY that bad?  The synopsis is

Also, there's another instalment of MITCH'S PITCHES!  Due to his well documented ignorance towards films, Mitch is shown a film poster with all titles, taglines etc removed and tasked with attempting to decipher the plot. 27/09/2020 Duration: 37min

Topics this week include Josh Ruben's Shudder Exclusive SCARE ME, Lorcan Finnegan's VIVARIUM, Mitch checks out Tony Maylam's wonderful THE BURNING and as the 90's side-quest nears its end, Mitch checks out WHEN A STRANGER CALLS BACK! 24/09/2020 Duration: 01h04min

Hi. So, this is a weird one. I am going to fend off any criticism early doors. Treat yourself!  This week, we are absolutely delighted to be joined by the writer/executive producer of arguably the biggest horror success story of 2020, Shudder's amazing HOST... It's JED SHEPHERD! The film? TEEN WITCH!  Back to 1989 this time for a film conceived as the female Teen Wolf. A film that flopped horribly on its release and is now finding a second life as a cult classic. It's a film neither Andy or Mitch had ever seen. It's a corker. See it and be bewitched!  The synopsis is as follows:  High-school nerd Louise Miller (Robyn Lively) learns from psychic Madame Serena (Zelda Rubinstein) that she's possessed with magical abilities that will begin working on her 16th birthday. When the prophecy proves true, the teenager uses her new powers t

HOORAY! (blows party horn)! We are back and it's Minisode 120! That's not why I am blowing my party horn, though. Not at all. Topics this week include SPIRAL, Samurais, CURTAINS and Mitch's 90's side-quest continues with BAD BOY BUBBY! Also, there's another instalment of MITCH'S PITCHES! Kind of... 17/09/2020 Duration: 01h08min

It's Matt Glasby! The film? SPLIT SECOND!  We love a dystopian sci-fi actioner, here. Throw in police procedural and you've got fucking catnip. This is a nineties classic which stars the late, great Rutger Hauer, Kim Cattrall, Alum Armstrong and the similarly late Pete Postlethwaite and Ian Dury! You MUST seek this one out.  The synopsis is as follows:  The year is 2008, and heavy rainfall has flooded large areas of London. Rookie police officer Dick Durkin (Alastair Duncan) is assigned to partner maverick Harley Stone (Rutger Hauer), a burnt-out and highly cynical homicide detective who was unable to prevent the murder of his
