Over the past two years, his students have won the "MyTomorrow" Award at the Cincinnati Public School LINK project competition for ninth grade for the videos they produced in his classroom.

    Suzy DeYoung joined the show to talk about an exciting new event that her non-profit, La Soupe is introducing called, WASTEd And The City. DeYoung says on October 9th from 6:00-8:30pm, For $75, attendees of WASTEd And The City have the opportunity to visit Over-The-Rhine and Downtown restaurants along the streetcar route, to sample tapas and a cocktail prepared with rescued food ingredients provided by La Soupe. According to Mrs. DeYoung, La Soupe bridges the gap between rampant food waste and hunger in the community by rescuing food that would otherwise be unnecessarily wasted. In turn, the food is used to create nutritious meals for non-profit organizations and food-insecure families.

Evan is using his celebrity to shed a light on childhood cancers. He says a shirt, featuring his silhouette, will be sold. All profits from the sale of the special-edition shirts will be donated to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

Today, Mitchell is a voracious reader. He even wrote a children’s book called The Magician’s Hat. To combat illiteracy, Mr. Mitchell started his own non-profit, Read with Malcolm. He spoke on-air about an upcoming reading contest that his foundation is organizing called the READBowl. He says the goal of the contest is to increase reading minutes among students in school.

Mr. Cook says he wrote a grant and raised funds to install a laundromat in the school. Mr. Cook spoke on-air about some of the issues his students face outside the school that become barriers to their success in the classroom. Principal Cook admits that his story went viral and captured the attention of Ellen DeGeneres. He spoke about his recent appearance on Ellen’s talk show.

The winning book, Misunderstood Micah has an anti-bullying theme. Dunlap says as the winners, the students will receive $500 and copies of their book will be signed and donated to schools and libraries nationwide.
