In this two-part conversation, we talk to him about the crime he committed, his co-defendant,  how he spent his time in prison, and his emergence as an advocate for giving other inmates a second chance to become productive members of society.Trevor Walraven spent nearly 18 years in prison for a murder he committed when he was 14 years old. He was released after going through Oregon’s “Second Look” process, which required him to show he had taken responsibility for his crime and demonstrated "outstanding reformation." He now advocates for criminal justice reform with a special focus on youth, who he argues are more likely to reform and deserve meaningful opportunities when released. He was later re-assigned to the violent crimes unit, where he continues to serve. Police get a 911 call from a man named Brad who says he fears for his safety after an older man, William, has hit the back of his truck. While Brad is still on the phone with police, he claims William is advancing on him and pulls the trigger on his rifle. The bullet strikes William in the head and kills him. When Sgt. George is called out to the scene, he learns that Brad is a 30-something, UFC-trained fighter, and former military sniper, while William, ‘Brad’s aggressor,’ is a boozy 60-year-old. In a rural western town, where everyone knows everyone, a casual night of good friends hanging out turns deadly. Special Guest: Sheriff CarlSheriff Carl began his career in law enforcement in 1991 after he was honorably discharged from the Air Force. He started out as a patrol officer and in 2005 he was promoted to detective. The jurisdiction he served was so small he was often the only detective at his agency. Over the course of his career Sheriff Carl has investigated everything from property crimes to homicides. When a child first reveals they are the victim of abuse it’s a process police call “disclosure.” That’s where Nichole comes in. She’s a trained forensic investigator and relies on a mix of research and empathy to give the victims a voice and bring criminals to justice.Special Guest:  NicholeNichole is currently the Lead Forensic Interviewer for her local Child Advocacy Center. Since 2006, she has been interviewing children who have been witness to, or victims of crime and has conducted over 3,800 interviews. She testifies as an expert witness in child development, disclosure processes, and other topics related to child abuse.
