Exploring July 18th - Podcast #5
17/03/2007Great things can happen on a particular date -take July 18th, JoJo's birthday, for example -This week you'll hear Walk On and Early from July 18, 1995 at Bohemia Music in Billings, Montana. Then you'll hear a band named Sherman play All Along the Watchtower from 7/18/01 (actually it was about 3 am on the 19th but who's counting?) at Wetlands in New York City. This song features Dave Schools on bass and vocals and JoJo Herman on keyboards. Sherman Ewing is the front man for this band and is an old friend of JoJo's. In fact, JoJo played in Sherman and the Bureaucrats in college. It is interesting to note that this performance of All Along the Watchtower occurs just a few days before Widespread Panic debuted the song as part of their repertoire.Get the cast here:Everyday Companion Podcast #5

Red Rocks Special 3 - June 25, 2000
17/03/2007'Never miss a Sunday show'June 25, 2000 Red RocksBear's Gone Fishing > Ride Me High > HatfieldI've seen every WSP show they've headlined at Red Rocks and this show ranks as one of the most memorable.Despite JB's obvious lyrical flub during Bear's Gone Fishing the band takes the nervous energy of that miscue and finds inspiration. They slither through the second half of the song with gusto and fly into the jam after Ride Me High with reckless abandon. The rain that developed during that jam out of Ride Me High seemed to summon Hatfield's spirit - And what transpired during that first set has since gone down in WSP lore as one of 'those' moments when it is hard to discern between the band, the song, the audience, the weather and the venue. 'Blue start rolling between the clouds, feeling of wonder, some water drying up, some water just sinking into the skin'JB, Hatfield 6/25/2000Charles Hatfield's Business CardGet the cast here:EC Red Rocks Numero TresOr listen NOW using this player:

17/03/2007We mark the tenth anniversary of Widespread Panic's first headliner performance at Red Rocks with a series of 'highlights' from their appearances. We start with May 31, 1996 - I recommend this show due to the sheer passion of the performance. Each member of the band has their moment and everyone shines. We've chosen to feature the start to the second set. PaniCast 41 'Til the Medicine Takes LIVE
11/03/2007Inspired by the Ain't Life Grand album performance from the first set of a Red Rocks show in 2001 and the epic first Surprise Valley played at Red Rocks in 1999 we've put together this week's cast. We took the songlist for 'Til the Medicine Takes and found the 1st time played for each song - despite the sources' quality varying wildly we've tried to make this as seamless as possible. I hope you all enjoy this, it sure was fun to pull together! PaniCast 34 Serendipity
07/03/2007No real theme this week - I just pulled together some kick ass jams from early '97.I recently exchanged emails with Ned Stein, which reminded me of the Rochester 97 show.Which reminded me of the Indy show for some reason....So I then decided to stay in spring 97 mode andlistened to Michael Wilker's remaster of the April 8, 1997 Las Cruces show. And then I heard from Fred Adams via email this week -and I remembered that Houser's birthday was the 6th.Happy birthday Mikey!May 2, 1997 IndianapolisStop -Go >Better Off >Stop-GoHolden Oversoul >Love TractorApril 8, 1997 Las Cuces, NMDear Mr. FantasyCity of Dreams >Hope in a Hopeless WorldApril 29, 1997 Rochester, NYJam >Pilgrims >No Sugar Tonight/New Mother NatureThe Take Out >Porch SongMake sure to click COMMENT below to let us know what you think -DOWNLOAD the cast here:Everyday Companion Podcast #34Click here to subscribe through iTunes.PRESS PLAY TO LISTEN NOW!

PaniCast 36 New Blue Rolling in Between Doors Records
07/03/2007Another week another Cast...You folks have all been so supposrtive of what we are doing here and at the main site... here are a few songs for a few of you who have sent kind words lately. We start off with the obscure original New Blue (click here for lyrics). Only played three times in fall 2001, JB pulled this out in his performance with Sam Holt last weekend at Hannah's Buddies. We then are treated to an old school Hatfield featuring a Riders on the Storm tease and JB rapping about Hatfield's mama playing Doors records. And then a song of my choosing, Diner. This monster from 1998 may be my favorite version of this song.... Then some silliness from Dave with the Who cover Magic Bus and finally we round out the classic rock tributes with a guest performance. Robby Krieger of the Door plays guitar on this sprawling version of Light My Fire.November 2, 2001 Dane County Coliseum Madison, WINew BlueOctober 14, 1996 Civic Center Monroe, LAHatfield (with Riders on the Storm Tease)April 3, 1998 Borderline London, E

We start everything off with It Was You, sung by Todd. It Was You was only performed 6 times in 1997 and once in 1998.Junco is a New Orleans traditional, and Solace is a Ragtime traditional. For the longest time I thought Cardboard Box was a phantom name for a jam, along the lines of Snorkle Search. There is no Snorkle Search but there IS a Cardboard Box!The Lullabye for NYC can also be heard on Houser's solo album, Door Harp. I HIGHLY recommend this disk.Make sure to click COMMENT below to let us know what you think -DOWNLOAD the cast here:Everyday Companion Podc

PaniCast 38 Analog Memories
07/03/2007Thanks again to everyone for the comments and suggestions on the cast, I'll do my best to get to Busted and Longer Look out ther for you next time around. One of the people who has been listening and recently contacted me was Corey Diamond, a Canadian Panic fan that I traded tapes with in the 90's and ended up meeting in 1997. He requested a WICKED Papa's Home from 1993. I searched through all of my various forms of media (DAT, CD, FLAC, SHN and Analog tapes) and found that the only version of this show that I have is on Analog. I've been meaning to pull a few gems from the analog collection to share with you all so I figured this was as good a time as any. So all o fthe selections from this show are from old analogs that I could not find a digital version for. A digital version may in fact exist, but I don't have it...By the way, if anyone recognizes the song that JoJo is TEASING at the end of this Papa's Home I would really appreciate it if you could help me identify that song. I feel like a total moron b

PaniCast 39 Playing to 10 or 10,000
07/03/2007A listener wrote in asking to hear selections from the Stone Balloon or Hammerjacks - unfortunately I only had one of the two in the archive, the Stone Balloon. This classic college bar no longer exists, except in the hearts of it's former patrons. While I was looking for this show on disks and drives I ran across a show from a few days earlier at the Imperial Room, Concord Resort Hotel in Kiamesha Lake, NY. The location itself sounded interesting so I checked it out. The venue is one of the old classic 'Catskills' hotels in it's hey day. It has since fallen into disrepair. Imperial Room at the Concord ResortIt sounds like there are maybe 50 people at this show - you can hear banter between band members at the start of Maggot Brain and JB thanking some one, presumably a crowd member, for a beer; "Probably be warm by the time you got up here. Cheers." In any case, this is another one of those examples of the band playing to 10 as if they are 10,000, if I may once again misquote Col. Bruce. The Let's Get the Sho
