The Lord said, 'Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand.'" — Judges 1:1-2 The book opens in a moment of loss. Joshua is gone. The strong leader. The voice of God’s direction. The man who filled Moses’ sandals and led battles with divine clarity. Now? Silence. No commander. No plan. Just questions. But the people do something right—they ask God. And he answers. "Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand." Notice that God doesn’t give them a detailed strategy. He just tells them who goes first. And that was enough. Judah.
