It goes from bad to worse as Chelsea have their worst start to a season since 1978/9 with 3 defeats in 5 games. What is going on? How can a team that won the league a mere three months ago, go so quickly from Champs to chumps? Is it form? Is it a lack of quality? Is it poor preparation? Is there unrest in the dressing room? Has Jose lost his special touch? Or is it all down to a lack of confidence? So many questions, some of which we will attempt to answer on the show tonight. It goes from bad to worse, as Chelsea slumped to their second defeat in two games against a well-organized, physical and pacey Crystal Palace. But what is probably more galling is the lack of form of the four most important players from last season. How have the Fantastic Four turned in to the Feckless Four, and more important what can Chelsea and in particular Jose Mourinho do to turn things around. Chelsea got their first win of the season under their belt on Sunday to calm the nerves for the relegation battle to come – well that’s what the red-tinted media would have us believe. New boy Pedro replete with his dodgy tache was the star of the show, but it was good to see goal pig Costa back on the scoresheet and pocket dynamo Cesar Azpilicueta scoring his first Premier League goal. Chelsea has become a veritable Spanish Armada. But it was not all plain sailing largely thanks to our all too frequent nemesis, Mark Twattenburg, who harshly sent off JT with all the relish of Dracula about to bite into a voluptuous blonde virgin. All good things must come to an end, and it was good to see Chelsea round off their title winning season with a 3-1 defeat of Sunderland. Even better to see Remy put in a decent performance and score two goals; hopefully he’ll be with us next season. Sadly there are likely to be several players who won’t be but it was nice to give a fond farewell to Didier Drogba, Petr Cech and quite possibly Jon Obi Mikel. All in all a great season and a great finale – there is nothing like seeing the Premier League trophy being lifted at Stamford Bridge! Stamford Chidge is joined by Dr Mart, Jonathan Kydd and Dan Silver to discuss the 3-0 defeat to WBA and on this day remember the greatest day in our football lives - Munich 19-05-12! If ever you are going to lose 3-0 to WBA, then I suppose it is just about ok to do so when you have the Premier League title wrapped under your arm. Or is it? Is there such a thing as a meaningless match? Thanks to either the hilarious or stupid Fabregas red card, the Blues found themselves in a hole they were unable to dig themselves out of. Jose blamed fatigue and a lack of motivation, but shouldn’t the great motivator himself have been able to get them up and at them? Nothing wrong with the motivation of the Chelsea away massive who sung their hearts out all match and made a din that reminded me of our support in the ‘80’s and it was good to see Jose acknowledge their special contribution this season at the end of the match. So Sunday was far more about what happened off the pitch than on it. A tale of 2 captains on it as Stevie Me wiped out JT’s opener after 5 minutes in what had the feel of a rather meaningless match. Many of the players look like they need a holiday and who can blame them. Good job that most of the entertainment was off the pitch with the guard of honour; the ovation for Gerrard and his pissy post-match comments about it. After all the hate about boring football and negative tactics it seemed wholly appropriate that Chelsea won the title on Sunday with a 1-0 win coming from a spawny penalty which Hazard scored on the rebound, and we ended up with 8 defensive players on the pitch. That’s why we are champions. At the end of the day, all the Chelsea supporters celebrating in the pubs around Stamford Bridge late in to the evening yesterday do not care one jot. A great day on Saturday as Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Yanited brought us one match closer to lifting the Premier League title. As for the match, we all knew what to expect and Jose delivered a classic rope-a-dope on Yanited inviting them in for the first half an hour before Eden Hazard delivered what proved to be the knock-out blow on 38 minutes. After that we didn’t really break sweat with a quality defensive team performance. A horrible game but a great result best sums up Chelsea’s win in the Loftus Road toilet bowl. To be fair QPR made it tough for Chelsea with a bobbly pitch and their bobbly headed fans. But all the coin and bottle throwing couldn’t deny Chelsea another three points as they continue the march to the title. As for QPR, all their frothing at the mouth every time a Chelsea player touched the ball can’t hide the fact that they are and always have been a championship club and forever in Chelsea’s shadow. Chelsea FanCast TV is dead - Long live the Chelsea FanCast Podcast!! A funny old week at Chelsea – we go out rather limply on to 10 men on away goals to PSG in the Champions League and we fail to take advantage of another City slip up by only managing a draw at home to Southampton. Yes, it could have been much better, but why the hysteria? We were only a few minutes away from getting to the Champions League quarter finals and we have now extended our lead at the top of the table to 6 points with a game in hand. I think a healthy dose of Chidge perspective is needed on the show tonight, and by the way it is very good to be back I hope you missed me as much as I missed you! Jonathan Kydd is joined by Dr Mart, Darren Mantle and FFP expert Jake Cohen to discuss the appalling refereeing by Martin Atkinson which cost us all three points in the draw against Burnley; the rearguard draw against PSG; the Paris Metro racism incident and a discussion about what FFP entails for Chelsea. Former Referee's Chief Keith Hackett described Martin Atkinson's performance as arguably one of the worst in Premier League history, and who are we to argue. Two penalty claims; no punishment for a nasty foul on Brana Ivanovic and worse no punishment for a potentially career ending challenge on Nemanja Matic, who got sent off in reward for understandably reacting. Whilst Chelsea were not at the best, and should have put the game to bed long before, there's no doubt that Atkinson cost us all three points.
