Synopsis

Dave's Disney View - a look at Walt Disney World... I have a lot to say about Disney, having been a regular visitor since WDW opened...I was a one-time CM, and found a great love for the imagination and wonder of it all....heck its why I studied engineering. My goal is to provide short podcasts (they are all between 15-30 minutes) covering topics that I find interesting that I find interesting from around "the world."

Episodes

    07/04/2019 Duration: 25min

On this episode, I present audio from Epcot's Future World...back in March, we took a trip to visit the world, and I made sure to capture some ride audio as we went along. Enjoy the ride along!  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #62 - The Kitchen Kabaret

    07/04/2019 Duration: 29min

On this episode, I look back at the Kitchen Kabaret, a long-gone attraction in EPCOT's Land Pavillion. It was in the genre of the Country Bear Jamboree, and was a cute look at nutrition and the basic food groups. Plus there was a catchy tune - veggie, veggie, fruit!, fruit! - that made it memorable. So come hear all about it, and listen to the attraction audio. I'd like to throw a plug out the for Mike Lee and his hard work putting together a lot of information about the attraction. You can visit him on the web at http://www.omniluxe.net/wyw/kk.htm  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #61 - Q and A with Dave - and Curt (part 2)

    07/04/2019 Duration: 27min

Dave and Curt are back to answer more of your Disney questions. What's a family to do, when they love Disney but want to see the Harry Potter exhibit? And, we talk about the Illuminations cruise options to celebrate a big anniversary. Too bad the Breathless suffered a "career ending injury" and is no longer in service. But there are still pontoon boats, and other options. Or you could dream big and rent the luxury yacht at the Grand Floridian for a Fireworks cruise. At the end of the show, Curt brings up a point that I tend to think like relative local, and prefer short more-frequent trips, where most visitors like to take in the whole Disney experience on less-frequent trips.  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #60 - Q&A with Dave - and Curt (part 1)

    07/04/2019 Duration: 24min

Dave is back to answer your Disney questions, and this time I've brought some help! Curt and I take on some of the questions I've been asked recently. Its a show that's so big, I had to break it into two parts! In this part, We talk about thanksgiving, the weather in late summer, fun things to do with kids in EPCOT, and what's a Disneyland vet to do in WDW?  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #59 - Married to the Mouse

    07/04/2019 Duration: 37min

This week, I welcome Rick Foglesong to the show. Rick wrote Married to the Mouse about a decade ago. The book is about the relationship between Disney, the state of Florida, and the two counties in which it resides. Its an interesting read, and I recommend it. We delve into this complex relationship, and talk about some general topics in political science as they relate to Disney. But fear not! This is a fun discussion and there is no final exam. Among the topics: Did you know that Walt was *this close* to opening a park in St Louis before he found Florida? Did you know that Disney has tremendous authority for land use? Would you believe that Walt understood the issues of having permanent residents in his EPCOT? Did the company use the concept of EPCOT to its advantage after Walt's death? And there's so much more. The show is longer than usual (about 37 minutes), but I think you'll agree it is well worth it. Rick was great to talk with, and I think you'll enjoy the conversation. Mar

  • Show #58 - Tapestry of Nations

    07/04/2019 Duration: 29min

For the millennium celebration, Disney rolled out the Tapestry of Nations parade, or more aptly show. It was a larger-than-life exhibit with giant puppets (made by the same guy who did the puppets for the Lion King on Broadway), and rotating drums. It went on for about 4 years, before it faded off. The musical score was beautiful, and I share it and a little history with you on this podcast. I'll be honest and say this was one of my favorite productions ever, and I miss it.   --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #57 - A few attractions in the studios

    07/04/2019 Duration: 30min

In this podcast, I visit the Studios. You can check out the audio from the Toy Story Midway Mania ride, and the Muppet Vision show. Also, I talk about One Man's Dream, and give some info about the multiplane camera, which is exhibited there. I love how you can learn a little something while you're having fun. That's cool. Over at Muppetvision, you can check out the old overflow queue, and the attention to detail. The faces on pipes are amazing. And of course, you have to read the signs as you go through! There's some funny stuff buried in them. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #56 - Disney news for 6-8-11

    07/04/2019 Duration: 29min

Come check out this week's show, as I start with a discussion about Star Tours 2.0, and include some audio from George Lucas. I also talk about the rumored expansion of the Star Wars area in the Studios. Oh, and I found this clever idea to keep track of your trips through Star Tours: http://startourspassport.com/ I've also present excerpts from an article about how Disney helps shape the law, in this case immigration law (it was excerpted from http://multiamerican.scpr.org/tag/j-visa/. I've got some other news and notes, like the sale of Universal Studios, and the Tiki Room's return. And finally, I offer an opportunity for someone to sponsor the podcast and the website (disneypodcast.net). You can read more about it here: http://disneypodcast.net/adspace.htm  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #55 - Sci-Fi Dine In Theater

    07/04/2019 Duration: 27min

I still love the kitchy nature of this place - in spite of the fact the car hops aren't quite as interactive, there are no roller skates, and the menu doesn't quite evoke the 50s feel that it once did. Its all about the ambiance, the clever selection of movie trailers, and the imagination that went into it. This podcast is simply audio from my dining experience. I hope you enjoy it.  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #54 - wrapup from the hunt, and other thoughts on the trip.

    07/04/2019 Duration: 24min

I arrived at Disney World on Wednesday, and spent a little time on the Boardwalk, then went to the Studios, and Epcot, before finally heading to Downtown Disney for a while. Then, on Saturday after the hunt, I spent some time in the Animal Kingdom and the Magic Kingdom. I give some thoughts about the time I spent doing that, and also talk about the restaurants that I checked out while I was there. Plus, since I was staying at the Saratoga Springs resort, I give my thoughts on the property and the DVC experience.  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #53 - The Great Disney Scavenger Hunt - part 2

    07/04/2019 Duration: 22min

On this episode, Curt and I recap our experiences, and you'll hear from Becky Cline - who now is the head of the Disney Archives - as she announces the results. We didn't win (we came in at #264, with 425 points, right in the middle of the pack) but that's okay by us. It was a blast, and I'm ready to do it again! Remember, you can see the all of the questions at http://disneypodcast.net/thehunt.htm  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #52 - The Great Disney Scavenger Hunt. Part 1

    06/04/2019 Duration: 21min

May 12 & 13, 2011, the D23-sponsored scavenger hunt was on!! The Blathering Blatherskytes were represented by me and my friend Curt. We took on the hunt thusly: Day 1 - Magic Kingdom, Epcot - and Day 2 - Animal Kingdom, Studios. It was fantastically fun, and sometimes vexing. On this episode, come along as we roll through the days. I present some sample questions for you, but you can see the all of the booklets at http://disneypodcast.net/thehunt.htm I have a few corrections to make - gee I guess I spent a lot of time re-thinking my answers! on the podcast, I say that there were 3 onion rings. The correct answer is 5 The weathervane in question was on top of Peter Pan's flight The height requirement is 44" on Expedition Everest --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #51 - Weird Al's connection to Disney World

    06/04/2019 Duration: 19min

I have seen Weird Al perform many times at the parks. There was Grad Nite for me, and I saw several of his shows that evening. And then there was a night out at Pleasure Island where it was a giant sing-along; he did costume changes and had a really fun show. I explore his history with the parks - though he is just a fan as I am. Also I play a clip from his song "Skipper Dan" which is a fun parody of the Jungle Cruise skippers. [editor's note: I downloaded a copy when he made it available last year as a teaser. I use it here, but would hope that if you like it, you purchase a copy. If anyone has any objections to its use, please let me know]  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #50 - its the 50th podcast!

    06/04/2019 Duration: 16min

Dave made it to 50 shows. I take a few moments to reflect on my past shows, and ask for your input on the future. Plus, I am proud to announce my new site disneypodcast.net, which I hope will become a community site for great content. And, I talk about the upcoming Disney Scavenger Hunt.  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #49 - Disney News for 4-26-2011

    06/04/2019 Duration: 28min

On this week's show, I've got Disney news to share. I talk about the end of grad nite, a special event for high school seniors. I attended as a senior and worked it as cast member, and remember it fondly. I talk about the possible new DVC property that will be at Disney's Grand Floridian. Then its on to Star Tours 2.0 that will open in time for Star Wars weekends. I have a couple of quick takes on happenings, and then I get to a few interesting rumors involving the queue at Peter Pan - which likely will be getting an interactive makeover, the Tiki Room which is rumored to be going back to its original show, and a rumor about the Universal Studios.  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #48 - Mickey's Starland & Toontown

    06/04/2019 Duration: 21min

After Mickey's 60th birthday was over, Disney decided to re-theme Mickey's Birthdayland as Mickey's Starland. And later, it became Mickey's ToonTown Fair. I explore the changes that were made, and how the land evolved over time to become what we saw before it closed.  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #47 - Mickey's Birthdayland

    06/04/2019 Duration: 26min

With the removal of ToonTown, I wanted to pay tribute to the original idea and how it came about. Mickey's Birthdayland was created to celebrate Mickey's 60th birthday and was only supposed to be be temporary. But it was fairly popular, and Disney realized that guests wanted to meet Mickey, and so expanded on the idea. I talk about this new land, and what it was all about. Please feel free to add your   --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message

  • Show #46 - Dave answers your questions

    06/04/2019 Duration: 30min

I actually do love to answer questions about Disney. Its fun to help others plan so they can enjoy the resort as much as I do. This podcast contains questions about miniature golf (cough! cough! be sure and check out my app in the itunes store), whether to stay on property or off, photopass, which fireworks show is the best, and a question about gay days in the parks. I also present an idea from a listener who suggests what you can say to CastMembers in each country in EPCOT. Discuss below! You've heard me talk about playing miniature golf on my podcast. I decided to make a fun little app so you can throw away those little pencils and scorecards. And do something more. The app allows you to keep score of your mini golf game, save the scores for review, see the places you've played on a map, take photos without leaving the app - and best of all it allows you to be social: you can post pictures and notes to facebook and twitpic while you're playing! http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mini-golf-scoring/id4227790

  • Show #45 - Why is Disney so Special

    06/04/2019 Duration: 22min

In this podcast, I talk about why I think its so special. What makes the parks unique? What makes the experience unique and interesting? How is it different from the other competitors?  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/daves-disney-view/message
