Forget all that Week 0 nonsense, because now it’s for real! Because Ohio State kicks off, of course. A new CFB season means new faces, new questions, and new reasons for optimism... Or pessimism and concern. But the hosts are not too worried about OSU’s new starting quarterback. Instead, they want to know if Jim Knowles’ defense will turn up the heat and whether Justin Frye’s revamped offensive line can protect C.J. Stroud’s replacement. Although there are plenty of unknowns in and around Columbus, hopes and expectations are as high as they’ve ever been. Up first for the Buckeyes are the Indiana Hoosiers, so Josh and Chuck preview a Tom Allen-led IU squad

    29/08/2023 Duration: 01h07min

It’s game week at last and we’re ready to go after seeing some Week 0 games this past Saturday. The Buckeyes are going through their final preparations for the upcoming season and it starts with a Big Ten East showdown in Bloomington this Saturday. We begin the show with some news, including the naming of Ted Carter as the next president of The Ohio State University. That was the first domino that needed to fall in order to get a new athletic director hired to replace Gene Smith in the position next year. Ohio State also has a new stadium voice. We touched on that briefly before getting into the latest group of official Buckeyes who saw their black stripes removed from their helmets within the last week. These are guys who are showing that they came to Columbus to put in the work and we love to see it. Colin Lavery from Crimson Quarry then jumps on with us to tell us about the 2023 Indiana Hoosiers, and to say that he’s not feeling optimistic about his team’s upcoming season might be an understatement. The latest episode of Land-Grant Holy Land’s flagship podcast is here! Join LGHL’s Josh Dooley and Chuck Holmes as they discuss Ohio State football, recruiting, and much, much more! Come for the hot takes, stay for the warm ones. On this episode of Hangout in the Holy Land, Josh and Chuck discuss Larry Johnson and defensive line recruiting, before pivoting to the Buckeyes’ ongoing and potentially never-ending quarterback battle. Will OSU fans see a repeat of 2015? Or is this just Ryan Day slow-playing his hand? Then, the hosts give props to a trio of team captains, as well as several newly anointed - and ‘official’ - members of the Buckeye brotherhood. This is of particular interest to Chuck, as in just a few more episodes, he will also have a stripe removed, making him an official member of the LGHL brother and sisterhood... As long as he is not found to have put money on Indiana or Youngstown State to cover. And finally, a look at Big Ten contenders. These (football) teams are predicted and projected to fin

  • Silver Bullets Podcast: Camp news and B1G East predictions

    22/08/2023 Duration: 01h12min

There’s always so much news to get to as the season’s about to start. With so much to discuss, we started this week’s show with the bad news first. Two Buckeyes will not see the field in 2023 — tight end Bennett Christian, because of testing positive for a banned substance, and linebacker Kourt Williams II, with torn ACL. We wish both players the best of luck in getting back on the field. In better news, Ohio State named its 2023 captains, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the choices. We discussed why Cade Stover, Tommy Eichenberg, and Xavier Johnson were the perfect choices and why it’s good to put the rotating captain nonsense in the rearview mirror. Johnson also earned the right to wear the Block O jersey this upcoming season, and that was also the perfect choice. The only thing that might be more appropriate is if they let him wear an X on his jersey. There was a slew of new black stripe removals, including several freshman receivers. Brian Hartline just keeps getting standout talent. As an aside, we

  • Uncut: Still No Starting Quarterback, but We've Got Offensive Tackles and Sonny Styles

    21/08/2023 Duration: 01h05min

Throughout the year, the Land-Grant Podcast Network will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions. On today's episode of "Land-Grant Uncut," we are bringing you unedited audio from Ohio State football coach Ryan Day and defensive coordinator Jim Knowle's Monday, Aug. 21 press conference. Day opens the presser admitting that he hasn't yet determined who will start for the team at quarterback. However, rather than viewing that as a negative, he says it is a byproduct of both guys playing well enough to earn the spot. However, things appear to be solidifying on the offensive line as Day said that the likely starting tackles will be Josh Simmons on the left and Josh Fryar on the right with Carson Hinzman at center. Knowles also confirmed that Sonny Styles will start at safety and that the young defensive lineman will have major roles. The NCAA is still bad at managing infractions and will allow this to carry over way longer than it should. They discuss his impact not only in Columbus, but also in helping to shape the Big Ten as we know (or will come to know) it. Smith’s professional presence will eventually be missed, but not before June of 2024. Then, like Canteen Boy, the Hangout Boys talk camping... As in fall camp/practice(s) for the OSU football team. What are fans learning (and not learning) about this year’s version of the Buckeyes? Does Ryan Day already have a plan in place, or are multiple position battles truly TBD? Can Jim Knowles and Co. put TTUN and UGA in their rearview? These questions and more are surely on the minds of many. And finally, a look at Big Ten pretenders. These

  • Silver Bullets Podcast: Black stripes, watch lists, commitments, B1G West predictions

    15/08/2023 Duration: 01h11min

We are back to our weekly season schedule! There’s a ton of news and we can’t possibly get to everything, but we did get to a lot of things. Even though we’re not big recruiting news guys, we did get to talk a little bit about two new Ohio State recruits, and maybe it says a lot about us that we spent more time discussing the new preferred walk on long snapper than the four-star wide receiver. Preseason is the time for watch lists and at Ohio State, there are usually going to be players on the watch list for every major award. We go through the Walter Camp, Butkus Award, Thorpe Award, and Doak Walker Award watch lists and discuss the Buckeyes from whom folks will be expecting big things in 2023. After that, we dove into the most recent Buckeyes to get their black stripes removed from their helmets. These weren’t exactly surprises but they were interesting. We also talked about Omari Abor’s unfortunate injury that will once again sideline him “for at least two months.” But wait, there’s more! Gene Smith is cal
