Land-Grant Holy Land’s flagship podcast ‘Hangout in the Holy Land’ is back for a brand new season with brand new co-hosts! Join LGHL’s co-managing editor Gene Ross alongside his co-host Josh Dooley as they cover everything from football to basketball to recruiting and more! In this week’s episode, Gene and Josh start off by discussing the return of the Ohio State men’s hoops team, highlighted by Malaki Branham’s scoring explosion. There was a lot to like about the Buckeyes’ performance against Nebraska, and they break it down a bit before moving on to Ohio State’s NFL Draft hopefuls. After taking a look at a few mock drafts and the remaining draft decisions left on the Buckeyes’ roster, they finish things up with some recruiting talk. The guys react to the breaking news of the latest Ohio State commitment, as well as touch on the handful of commitments that have come in since the last podcast and one that could be coming down the pipe in the near future. Wow, it’s hard to believe that Ohio State’s football season is already over. It seems like just yesterday that the Buckeyes were kicking off against Minnesota on a Thursday night, but here we are, sweeping the confetti from a successful Rose Bowl game away as 2022 has already dawned.  And what a Rose Bowl it was! On the pod this week, Megan and Meredith talk how, with record-setting performances from Jaxon Smith-Njigba and CJ Stroud, the Buckeyes look like they won’t miss a beat heading into next fall — at least on the offensive side of things. We may be approaching the end of 2021, but we’ve got the same old story dominating sports headlines: COVID-19. Several bowl games have been cancelled, creating an abrupt end to the season for many teams, but others — namely Rutgers — have another shot as they’re backfilling teams that had to drop out of their bowl games due to COVID outbreaks.  Even Ohio State’s men’s basketball game against New Orleans, initially scheduled for Tuesday night, was cancelled just moments after Meredith and Megan finished recording.  But there was some good news from the week, like the NBA on Christmas Day, and Joe Burrow’s performance against the Ravens Sunday. Well, COVID has reared its ugly head once again, and its impact has been felt throughout the sports world with NFL, NBA, NHL and NCAA basketball games all being delayed or outright cancelled due to positive tests within organizations. Ohio State hoops was not immune, with the men’s games against Kentucky and UT Martin and the women’s matchup against UCLA being cancelled.  However, the postponements in the NFL in particular mean we’ve got pro football for days on end leading up to Christmas, and this week has already been a special gift with a thriller between Baltimore and Green Bay Sunday afternoon. And of course, we’ve got more and more Bowl games, cool moments with Tiger Woods and (finally?) an end to the Urban Meyer drama in Jacksonville.
