Doctor Who: Who's He? Podcast

This week Phil and Paul wrap up the Destiny of The Doctor audio series with a review of the final story in the series, The Time Machine read by Jenna Coleman.  Well they do after a false start as Phil leaps into the future and announces he's reviewing The Time of The Doctor which surprises Paul somewhat.  Anyway, when they finally get down to business, they tackle whether this is a fitting end to the Destiny of The Doctor series and does it tie up all the loose ends? And in the news this week, a brand new trailer for The Time of The Doctor, a petition to name a recently discovered planet Gallifrey and in an international themed Omega's Tat Corner, two items of tat for our North American listeners that have either sold out or not yet available for Christmas.  Well, not this Christmas anyway!

This week it's a mammoth review of everything but The Day of The Doctor!  For 85 minutes Phil and Paul cover The Night of The Doctor, The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot, The Last Day, An Adventure in Space and Time, The Day of The Doctor After Show Party and the Doctor Who Celebration weekend at London's Excel Centre (phew!!).  Yes they discuss an awful lot in this podcast, so sit back, fill your pipe with your favourite shag and enjoy! And in the news this week, the time is confirmed for the showing of The Time of The Doctor on BBC1, the special effects team is confirmed for Peter Capaldi's first season and in a bumper edition of Omega's Tat Corner there are more Christmas ideas than you can shake a stick at and one particular piece of tat will spice up the bedroom!

Here it is folks, we've finally got round to reviewing the 50th Anniversary spectacular, The Day of The Doctor.  So what did Paul and Phil reckon to this multi Doctor story?  During their discussion they touch on the dangling Zygon plot thread, the necessity of an extra Doctor, the fan reaction to "Rose" and who is Tom Baker? The 50th anniversary celebrations have begun!!  In this special episode we review the anniversary offering from Big Finish in the form their multi Doctor story Light At The End.  Will this story improve upon previous multi Doctor stories or will it be another jumbled mess attempting to cram in as many continuity references as humanly possible?  Never fear though as Phil and Paul give your their usual forthright opinion and Phil makes a complete balls up of explaining the plot! However, you must bear one thing in mind!  This review does contain spoilers, so if you haven't listened to Light At The End you have been warned!!

On this weeks podcast Phil and Paul return once again to their series 3 retrospective with a look Blink written by current show runner Steven Moffat.  Just how much did the two of them enjoy this story and does it still hold up as the monumental fan favourite?  Listen to find out and also hear them begin to on a journey down memory lane before they both get slapped back into the present day. This week the chaps bring you the second part of their audio commentary for the Jon Pertwee story The Daemons episodes 3 to 5.  It's business as usual with long periods of silence and bad jokes but also with Sargeant Benton getting a kicking from a 1970's ventriloquist and Tony's facts on Matthew Corbett finally get their payoff. And as this was recorded last week they pretend there wasn't any news to talk about but then Phil invades from the future and brings you news on what happened in the week with the early release of the Big Finish 50th Anniversary story Light At The End and what is happening at the BFI!

After an extremely long period, it's audio commentary time!  This go around, Phil, Paul and a returning Tony tackle The Daemons, episodes 1 & 2 in the first of a two part commentary.  And even after such a long time between commentaries, the three of them have learnt nothing.  It's still shambolic and they barely pay any attention to what they are watching as Tony unleashes his "facts" on Matthew Corbett and his contribution to the set design of The Daemons and thrill as they watch a U.N.I.T member phone a chat line. And in a very slapdash news section this week, they cast their eyes over the 50th Anniversary trailer shown on Saturday night, Moffat's teasing over the amount of regenerations, what really happened with that casting rumour on Ben Daniels, some 50th Anniversary cocktails and in Omega's Tat Corner there is one helluva lot of mintage.

In this weeks show Paul and Phil have browsed the book shelves and stumbled across the Target novelisation of An Unearthly Child to review.  Is this book up their with Terrance Dicks better novelisations or is it just a bland translation of the TV serial?  Along the way, they discover that fate decided just how this book would turn out. However, all of this pales into insignificance as the big news this week is that 9, count them, 9 episodes of previously missing Doctor Who stories from the Troughton era have been returned to the BBC and were released to the excited public.  So tune in to hear Phil and Paul throw pessimism to the wind and hear them embrace optimism and celebrate this wonderful news.  And also, Neve McIntosh wants to sex up Doctor Who.  Ooer missus!!

This week Phil and Paul return to the Destiny of The Doctor audio series with the penultimate story Death's Deal read by Catherine Tate.  There is plenty to enjoy for the pair of them this week as they both agree on this fantastic story and discuss some of the highs and lows of this series so far. Also this week, there is a discussion on the Who's He? Podcasts recent trips to the BFI Doctor Who 50 10th and 8th Doctor events where they give their views on the stories shown and the Q&A panels that followed. And in the news this week, the offical announcement of the 50th Anniversary global broadcast, the national press insisting that over 100 missing episodes have been found (a friend of our source said), Paul McGann's tweet about providing a voice over for Matt Smith and Phil gets more than he bargained for when discussing a news item on Kate O'Mara wanting to return as the Rani!

In this weeks show Phil & Paul continue with their series 3 retrospective with their take on Family of Blood.  To be honest, expect more of the same as last week as this is real love in as the pair of them sing the praises of this story and everyone involved and tip their hats to possibly the greatest two part story since the show came back in 2005.  And Phil gets to use the word "beastly". And in the news this week, the exciting announcement of extra tickets for this Novembers official convention and also the accouncement of the premier of An Adventure In Space And Time at the BFI which leads Phil & Paul to show their utter contempt for their listeners.  But in Omega's Tat Corner a piece of tat that is so unwarranted, unofficial and downright shameful gets chucked into the muckiest of Omega's corners.

In this weeks episode Paul and Phil delve back into series 3 with a look at Human Nature, quite possibly one the best 45 minutes of Doctor Who committed to the small screen.  Yep, high praise indeed as the pair of them agree on a lot of things this week which causes them both to wax lyrical about this story and Phil gets ideas above his station and starts talking about lighting and camera angles.  Yes, Phil is in over his head!! And in the news, it's mainly DVD stuff to talk about but in Omega's Tat Corner, there's an item of tat that gets Phil on his soap box again!! Podcast, Phil & Paul turn their attentions to the Target novelisation of Warriors of The Deep, that well known (for all the wrong reasons) 5th Doctor underwater adventure.  Does this book address the TV versions shortcomings or does the green paint from the Myrka reach the written page?  Tune in to find out! Once again Phil and Paul return to the ongoing Destiny of The Doctor audio series with a look at the 9th Doctor story Night of The Whisper.  During the course of their discussion, Phil manages to offend the people of Manchester and also lose his marbles all at the same time!  It's definitely one to.....oh you know what I mean, erm....listen to!  Yes that's it. And in the news this week, Matt Smith begins recording his final story, the original script for The Tenth Planet has been found and in Omega's Tat Corner....coaster news!!

In this episode Phil & Paul return to the world of Big Finish with a look at the 5th Doctor and Peri story Red Dawn.  What do they think of this 13 year old story that was not widely regarded by certain quarters of fandom?  You may be surprised at their reaction but it makes Phil find time to make comparisions with Prometheus and gets bogged down in continuity while Paul just shakes his head. And in the news this week (which we should really call the "olds") they catch up on news items they have missed out on the last couple of weeks such as Christopher Ecclestones message for the 9th Doctor BFI event, some DVD news and a bumper edition of Omega's Tat Corner!!

This week the lads take a trip back in time and crack on once again with their series 3 retrospective with a review of 42.  I am sorry to say however that Phil makes a true return to form in this episode as he does not like this one little bit.  So expect calm level headed discussion from Paul and hot headed, angry words that make no sense from Phil.
