This month we widened the parameters of the “funny” by adding “sketch comedy” to the mix. The rules were still the same, but this time the premises were suited for sketch comedy. Two great teams, Adamantly Indifferent with Jeff Gage and Rob Wahl went up against Savage Tech with Joel Savage and Lindsey Bowes. The Premise made its grand return on 1/16 and will be back on the third Thursday of the month through July. Two comedians are handed a “premise” they haven’t seen or heard until that night. Then they have 20 minutes to write 3-5 minutes of standup which they then perform in front of a live audience. Comedian Nickey Winkelman, a Shadowbox regular and one of the hosts of Quiz Box, returned to try and notch a win. She went up against Jeff Gage, one of Columbus’ best comedic improvisers and teachers of the craft. The results were a no-lose situation for the audience. November is Men’s Health Awareness Month, a month focusing on men’s prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s mental health issues. This week on Whiskey Business, Dino and his crew talked with a recent survivor and a current fighter. Dan Skinner, a professor at Ohio University is a survivor of testicular cancer. Russ Hubbard is currently battling Stage 4 prostate cancer. Both men had unique perspectives as to where they are and where they are going in their personal battles, both emotionally and physically speaking. As is the case, on Whiskey Business we discussed it all over a good pour of Old Scout 107 American Whiskey. While Russ wanted to partake, he could not as he had just gone through another round of chemotherapy that same afternoon. Both men were open and honest and quite frank about their battles.
