Holy week is here as we draw closer to the death and new life of Jesus and it’s the main focus of this podcast. But as injections are a focus in 2021, I’m also injecting a bit about Corona and my town. In spite of the punishment meted out to an innocent Jesus as demanded by weak leaders and approved by the crowd of people, their plan backfired when they put to death the man their leaders did not like. Spring equals renewed life as we contemplate a ‘do over’ in how to use small celebrations for Easter 2021, as we keep our isolation vigil during Corona- Round 2. Also, March 25 is the Virgin Mary's Annunciation feast day that’s celebrated as the victory of a human being giving of herself to God’s will. Hopefully this can inspire us as we continue along on our unusual Lenten journey 2021, towards the recognition of the great gift Jesus Christ gave us, his life for ours. May this unique time in society of repeated Easter self-isolation afford us all a renewed hope for living a better life in this springtime of our lives. As the milestone of isolation grinds on, this season of Lent takes our Easter journey on a course that differs from all the previous Lenten experiences. By this I mean everyone, Christian believer or not, has been involved in some form of social isolation for an entire year. So our spiritual goal to pull back from the day to day social interactions in order to get closer to Jesus takes on a different feel this year 2021. Because isolation is the byword for everyone this year, our personal journey requires a different sort of individual contemplation. The prevention of having to physically attend church and come together in our common pilgrimages towards the great Easter moment is not like any other year. And as prayer is becoming a more significant part of our day, we find ourselves with fewer distractions because of the restrictions still in place for everyone anyways. So this may be requiring different considerations for our daily Lenten practices than from all our years before 2021. But it should provide a

Idleness, silos, anonymous comments and prayer. Plus the time when the Virgin Mary sought out a friend. There are overlooked aspects of the effect isolation due to the pandemic has on us and without communal prayer, we must double our personal efforts to pray to God on our own. The other day I was having trouble with a minor technical issue with my printer. I knew there would be someone on line who had a video with a fix. Naturally I went to ‘everyone’s go to video source’ on the internet to find a video that would demonstrate someone’s recorded solution to this printer’s problem. To my surprise, for this particular issue there was just one video. I played it. The narrator had a very thick accent, actually barely a command of the English language. For me, having grown up in a first-generation English language household, this is not an issue. For me It’s generally just a matter of paying closer attention to the words being spoken and in this case, the technical aspect of the issue helped with my understanding.

Attending church services can quench the lack of civility in the world today. I have heard it said when one goes to church, it is to talk to God. And when one reads from the Bible, God talks to you. And as we come close to one year of isolation, I've been reflecting one what the hustle-bustle of the work-a-day world once felt like. This 2nd installment explores ways to take advantage of the hiatus from the usual holiday gatherings and shopping as we move into the 2020 Christmas season. For me the empty chairs around the dining room table during Thanksgiving is an advance glance at how the upcoming Christmas Day of 2020 could look, without our thinking of how to ‘Do-Christmas’ 2020. Even during this pandemic, those empty chairs made me reflect on the prayers that were answered this year. It made me really appreciate what God has done for my family and friends. Let’s turn our focus away from the world of getting ‘Christmas presents’ and towards the Virgin Mary and Joseph as they prepared for the Nativity it will fill the lack of socializing that the world in the year 2020 has been giving us. Let’s take advantage of the unique opportunity ‘Covina’ isolation offers as we head into the Christmas season. Participate in daily Advent meditations or the Nativity Fast . Shake off this doubt in our world! As preparations for their trek to Bethlehem began for the Virgin Mary and Joseph, we too have the opportunity to celebrate life by preparing for the joy Christmas brings to our world. Why not start the season earlier (like today) and end the Christmas season later?
