We look back fondly to our 2014 season with this special re-broadcast featuring two young and extremely talented performers: Alejandro Rose-Garcia, (performing under the moniker Shakey Graves) and Heather Maloney. We’ll also share a great eChievement Award story of a young Canadian woman building safe classrooms for children, particularly girls, in Afghanistan.

Thurston Moore joins us with his blend of alternative, experimental rock and post-punk for this encore airing. Popularly known as singer, songwriter and guitarist of Sonic Youth, Moore was listed as one of Rolling Stone Magazine's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” The talented Texas R&B/soul duo Greyhounds is also with us, and our eChievement Award winner shares her story of “rescuing” food that would otherwise go to waste in order to feed the hungry in her community. 

We're back this week with more from our 2013 season including songs from Lord Huron, Joe Purdy, Terry Allen, Aoife O'Donovan, The Milk Carton Kids, Gregory Alan Isakov, Caitlyn Rose, and Solas! Nick also sits down with Terry Tempest Williams to discuss education and environmentalism. Magnificent music and memorable conversations galore are coming your way!!

Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter John Fullbright graces the eTown stage with his powerful keyboard and vocal skills. This young Americana/ folk musician and blues artist has been compared to the likes of Woody Guthrie. Canadian indie artist Afie Jurvanen, performing under the moniker "Bahamas," also joins us to share a few of his intimate, stripped-down acoustic originals. There’s lots of great music and conversation in this archival show from 2013, plus an uplifting interview with the E-Chievement Award winner who provides the homeless with a seemingly common everyday item we take for granted.

This week, as we continue to celebrate 30 years on the air, eTown hosts Nick and Helen Forster welcome two world-class artists, Marcia Ball and Paul Thorn for an episode from 2013 that’s steeped in the musical traditions of the American south. Marcia is truly an iconic blues player, writer and singer. And talented, funny and insightful singer/songwriter Paul Thorn will have you laughing, especially in his chat with Nick! Plus a woman from Michigan tells us how she’s brought back crucial art classes to low income schools.

Nick & Helen welcome back some old friends: brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars fame. They bring their special Southern blues sound, this time as a duo (Nick & Helen and the eTones lend musical support as well for them). There's more great music from first time eTown visitor Big Al Anderson. Al is known for his time (23 years as lead guitarist) with the iconic band NRBQ. He's a gifted singer, songwriter and guitarist, whose work is a dynamic fusion of Country, Rock, Blues and Soul. Nick & Helen welcome indie sensation Kristian Matsson (who performs under the moniker The Tallest Man on Earth). Kristian hails from Sweden and, of late, has burst onto the US music scene, building a huge fan base in an astonishingly short amount of time. He brings his stripped down, soulful sound (which often gets him compared to Bob Dylan) to the show. And relative newcomers The Spring Standards join us this week as well. They were childhood friends and reunited after college to continue creating their uniquely original sound; they're currently enjoying an underground following and growing buzz in the industry. Stellar music, great conversation and a moving E-Chievement Award story, too. That’s this week, in eTown.

Nick & Helen welcome renowned Canadian singer and songwriter, Dallas Green, who performs under the moniker City and Colour. He has an unmistakable sound, both instrumentally and vocally, he's wildly popular, and we're excited to have him with us for his first visit to eTown. Also joining us for the first time is the dynamic duo Birds of Chicago, which consists of talented musicians JT Nero and Allison Russell (two emerging artists gathering a following in American Roots music). There’s of course an inspiring E-Chievement Award story, this one from California; and a lot of great conversation, too. Be sure to join us!

Sounding as fresh and remarkable as they did originally, its so great to be able to revisit these exceptional, one-of-a-kind performances and conversations. 

This week, we bring you one of our favorite programs from the archives (we couldn’t resist sharing it in its entirety). While both Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi had made solo stops in eTown over the years, this visit is a first for the newly-formed husband and wife duo's all-star band. Also, Joseph Arthur, a virtuoso musician, painter and poet (in no particular order), takes the stage. And we’ll share the story of a grassroots hero from Illinois. A classic etown to be sure!

We continue our dive into the eTown archives with this exceptional 2010 rebroadcast (full episode) with the Indigo Girls, Emily Saliers and Amy Ray. This was originally an ‘eTown on the road’ show done from the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins, Colorado, with a bit of intrigue thrown in: When Amy misses her plane, Nick, Helen, and the rest of the eTones are enlisted to fill in in her absence. While they make beautiful music with Emily in the first set of the show, the question arises: Will Amy make it to the theater in time to join Emily for their second set in the show? Tune in and find out. Also on the program for his first eTown visit is now iconic singer-songwriter Nathaniel Rateliff, who was an up-and-coming young artist at the time. The E-Chievement Award honors a dedicated Fort Collins citizen who shares his story about helping abused children with us.

We’ll also speak with our eChievement Award winners Libby and Brad Birky, who opened a pay-what-you-can restaurant that has become a national model for serving the community healthy and affordable meals. And, host Nick Forster talks with then-President of the National Parks Foundation, Neil Mulholland about open space and conservation of parks across the country.
