When Jesus taught, people hung on his every word. Large crowds of people followed him around the countryside hoping to learn something new about God, life, and even horticulture! (Matthew 13). But today, we see Jesus say something so radical, so controversial, that many of the people who followed him, left. Some Christian faiths teach that one has to "accept" Jesus to be saved. The emphasis is placed on the person doing the accepting. But is that really what Jesus teaches? It is a familiar story -- one with many life lessons. The story of Jesus coming to the disciples, walking on the water, conjures up mental images of the disciples struggling, Peter sinking, and Jesus lifting him up. In Mark's account, the focus is on their fear and Jesus' encouragement.
